Multiple engineering and technological firms are combining forces to create a piece of history right here in Northeast Tennessee. The Bristol Motor Speedway, The Last Great Colosseum, is revolutionizing its look with the addition of the world’s largest outdoor, permanent, center-hung video display. This state-of-the-art digital display will be the most modernized of its kind in the world.

Appropriately named Colossus, the display will immerse fans into the Bristol experience more than ever before. The four high-resolution screens will provide the best color, roar and rumble through a thunderous sound system one could expect at the world’s fastest half mile. As one could imagine, these screens are being custom built and when complete they will 30 feet tall by 63 feet wide and will have a better picture quality than the screens in Times Square!

The construction began in November and Colossus will be ready to awe fans at the Spring 2016 Food City 500 NASCAR race weekend. Bristol Motor Speedway had a few reasons for conceptualizing and constructing Colossus and one of the biggest is in preparation of the biggest college football game ever. The Pilot Flying J Battle at Bristol, between the Tennessee Volunteers and the Virginia Tech Hokies, will be one of Bristol Motor Speedway’s most exciting events to date.

On September 10, 2016 Bristol Motor Speedway will transform the infield to a world-class football stadium. A crowd of at least 150,000 is expected, well over the 115,00 record set by Michigan. Specifics of how the speedway will be transformed haven’t been announced yet, but it will sure be a small window of time between the last August race and the big day in September.

Consumer tickets for the Battle at Bristol are no longer offered through the BMS ticket office, but as the game gets closer, tickets may be easier to find. The game will put a friendly divide through Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia, as loyal fans will cheer for their home team despite the closeness of the area. The countdown is on and fans from both sides are already making predictions.

The Pilot Flying J Battle at Bristol will be the inaugural sporting event at Bristol Motor Speedway and will go down in history as the biggest college football game to date. It has also inspired Colossus, the biggest and most modern and advanced center-hung video display in the world. Monumental happenings are coming to Bristol Tennessee and this event will only be the beginning. Executive Vice President and General Manager Jerry Caldwell says this game will open the door to make Bristol Motor Speedway one of the ultimate event venues.
