5th Annual Festival of Trees
November 12 - November 22
Greeneville, Tenn. – The Tourism Department of the Greene County Partnership, along with its Festival of Trees Committee, announced today that the dates for the fifth annual event will be November 12-22 in the Greeneville Commons Shopping Center between Maurice’s and Belk. The event will feature trees, centerpieces and wreaths decorated and donated by local businesses, churches and individuals for auction during the hours of the festival.
In the event’s first four years, more than 230 items were entered into the silent auction that spanned the 10-day period and more than 6,000 visitors have strolled through the aisles enjoying and bidding on the items.
“We were overwhelmed with the response last year from all of the businesses and organizations that wanted to support the event,” stated Tammy Kinser, Tourism Director with the Greene County Partnership. “We had van loads of people coming from churches as far away as Morristown to view and bid on some of the items and stayed here to enjoy some of our local restaurants, resulting in a great economic impact for our community.”
“We at Heritage Community Bank love being involved with such a wonderful event as the Festival of Trees”, stated Connie Kilday, Vice President and Lender with the bank. “We love being involved in our community activities. It’s fun to see the bidding on the beautiful items. It also gives us the opportunity to advertise our business to so many people that come by to visit and bid on these items.”
The open house, scheduled for Sunday, November 12, from 1-5 p.m. will feature refreshments, music, Santa, and the opportunity to register for a number to bid on the trees, wreaths, and centerpieces.
Silent auction bidding will begin at the open house and take place through noon on Tuesday, November 21. Entry fee for the open house, and throughout the 10-day event, is one canned food item that will be donated to the local food bank.
All proceeds from the Festival of Trees will go to fund the Tourism Department and its sports council for use in promoting Greeneville and Greene County as a vacation and sports destination.
Additional hours of bidding are November 13-18 and November 20 noon to 7 p.m., Sunday, November 19, 1 -5 p.m.; and Tuesday, November 21, 10 a.m. to noon. All winners must have their trees, etc., removed from the site by noon on Wednesday, November 22.
