Autumn in Northeast Tennessee brings thousands of tourists to the area to see the mountains in their colorful splendor. A favored tourist spot is Historic Downtown Jonesborough, the oldest town in Tennessee which will be adorned in autumn décor.
The goal of this show is to highlight the art, music, and dance produced in our region. Featuring nearly 50 visual artists located inside the International Storytelling Center and the surrounding Storytelling Park, the juried and judged event accepts unique arts and crafts from around the region. In keeping this a fine art event, the attempt is to offer a venue for professional artists to showcase their artwork. Musicians, authors, dancers, and performance artists are encouraged to apply to be at the event. This year college students are encouraged to participate and will receive a special reduced booth rate. Space is limited for this opportunity. Once juried into Art in the Park, artists do not have to pay the jury fee again.
Another popular aspect of Art in the Park includes the tasting area complete with wine samples, mouthwatering chocolates, tempting sauces and savory bread samples complete with the area’s own marketplace where folks can sample before they buy. Best in tasting vendors may apply to sell their original creations at the event and provide samples.
The ever-popular Best of Show honor will be given amongst the regional artists that includes $1,000, second place will be awarded $500 and third place $300. Two Honorable Mention certificates will be awarded and one Best of Tasting certificate. For the first time ever, there will also be a Best New Artist award for $125.
Visual artists must submit an application, jury fee, booth fee, and photographs of their work and booth set up to be considered. Once juried into Art in the Park artists will not have to be juried in again. A perk to participating artists will be their name printed in the event program and a hospitality area where light refreshments will be provided throughout the event.
Eligible artists can apply at www.mckinneycenter.com/artinthepark or by contacting Theresa Hammons at (423) 753-0562 or theresah@jonesboroughtn.org.
