As Fast as Birds Can Fly: The ET & WNC (Tweetsie) Railroad
The Chuckey Depot Museum in Jonesborough will debut its newest exhibit, As Fast as Birds Can Fly: The ET & WNC (Tweetsie) Railroad, on Thursday, March 4. The East Tennessee & Western North Carolina railroad (ET & WNC) was one of the main lines that ran through Johnson City and Elizabethton. This narrow gauge railroad only lasted from the 1880s through 1950, but it made a lasting impact on the region.
The exhibit will include several artifacts from the ET & WNC’s storied history, as well as photographs taken by people who worked on and for the railroad line. Tune into the Chuckey Depot Museum’s Facebook page at 7 p.m. on March 4 for a special virtual tour of the exhibit.
You can visit the museum in person on Thursday through Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Additional events to celebrate the exhibit will follow at a later date. The ET & WNC exhibit will be on display at the museum through Aug. 2021.
Chuckey Depot Museum is located at 110 S 2nd Ave. This project is brought to you by the Town of Jonesborough, Heritage Alliance of Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia, and Watauga Valley Railroad Historical Society. For more information visit the Chuckey Depot on Facebook or call the Visitors Center at 423.753.1010.

The Chuckey Depot’s original home was just down the road in Chuckey, TN, and now sits within WC Rowe Park in Jonesborough. To preserve the building, it was dismantled and re-erected in Jonesborough, where it opened as a museum in October 2017.
