“So You Wanna Make a Movie?” AMK Film Making Camp for all Ages

“So You Wanna Make a Movie?” AMK FILMMAKING CAMP
On Monday and Tuesday from 10 am to 3 pm, Kelley St. Germain of Germain Media and Appalachian Memory Keepers will teach students how to plan a short film, develop a story, interview tips and techniques, shoot b roll, select music, get copyright protection and DIY (do-it-yourself) equipment hacks.
His emphasis will be on using devices and equipment that students already have access to, such as cell phones and free/low budget editing apps, to capture the stories they feel passionate about. Besides showing examples of his own work, Kelley will discuss fundraising/crowdsourcing ideas that he has successfully used.
On Wednesday students will work from home and go out on their own or with family and film the people and places that will make up their film. On Thursday, each student will have a one hour appointment to work one on one with Kelley and use Adobe Premiere editing software to edit his/her film. On Friday, final edits will be made, and films will be finalized and prepared for showing.
The resulting films will be shown during this year’s Long Journey Home alongside an Appalachian Memory Keepers film Short Life of Trouble about the life of G.B. Grayson. Some may even be featured on one of Kelley’s media channels, such as Appalachian Memory Keepers. The camp is open to Film Makers of all ages. There is a $25 fee to participate. Space is limited.
