March 12 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm$5 – $20
Mary Edwards Walker was the first female surgeon and the second female doctor in the U.S., as well as the only woman to have been awarded the Medal of Honor. She was assigned to the 52nd Ohio Infantry in 1864 based in Chattanooga, Tenn., and near the Union front lines after the Battle of Chickamauga. She was taken prisoner, yet later traded, and finished her war service as a surgeon. Her story of skill, perseverance and heroism is recounted in Independence: The True Story of Dr. Mary Walker, a one-person play by Lloyd J. Schwartz. Kathie Barnes, known for her roles in film, on TV and online, portrays this American hero.
