“Stand Beside Her” Tour heads to Johnson City, Tennessee
“Team USA” Women’s Olympic Softball Team to play double header against local teams May 30th
at TVA Credit Union Ballpark
JOHNSON CITY, TN — The 2020 USA Softball Women’s National Team (WNT) will be in Johnson
City, Tennessee May 30, 2020 for a pair of exhibition contests as the “Stand Beside Her” tour rolls
through the United States in preparation for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Held at TVA Credit
Union Ballpark (199-131 Legion Street, Johnson City, Tenn., 37601), home of the Johnson City
Cardinals, Johnson City will host the Red, White and Blue as they look to capture the Gold Medal
in Tokyo when the sport of softball returns to the Olympic program for the first time since 2008.
“Each tour stop gives the Olympic Team the ability to prepare together for the Tokyo 2020 Games,”
said 2020 WNT member, Michelle Moultrie. “It’s a dream come true for us to get six months of
training together before competing in the Games. We have had such amazing support from fans
and can’t wait for the opportunity to play for them and meet them in person along the tour! We are
very excited to come to Johnson City, Tennessee and hope to see you there!”
Team USA is slated for a doubleheader, with their first contest against Milligan College before
closing out the tour stop with a game against a collegiate All-Star squad including players from
Milligan College, East Tennessee State University, and other schools TBD. The Red, White and
Blue will face off against the Buffs at 1 p.m. ET before facing off with the All-Star team roughly 35
minutes after the conclusion of the 1 p.m. contest.
Hosted by the Johnson City Convention and Visitors Bureau, tickets for the game are available
starting December 16th at 11:00 AM ET and can be purchased at www.JCCardinals.com and are
available for the following prices: General Admission Adults ($20), General Admission Youth ($15),
Reserved Adult ($25), Reserved Youth ($20) and VIP ($60) while children two years and under are
free.
“Milligan Softball is extremely honored and excited to work with USA Softball and the Johnson City
Convention and Visitors Bureau to bring a world class event to Johnson City.” Said Milligan College
Athletic Director, Mark Fox. “To be selected for a second time to play Team USA speaks to the
quality of the first event. Coach Holly and our players will do an outstanding job of representing
Milligan. The fact that this will be the last athletic event as Milligan College is quite a way for our
entire department to close one chapter in our long history of athletic success and launch us
towards setting new standards of achievement as Milligan University beginning June 1, 2020.”
“ETSU Athletics and our Softball Buccaneers are excited and proud to be a part of this wonderful
opportunity with USA Softball and our friends from Milligan, “said Scott Carter, Athletic Director for
East Tennessee State University. “This experience will be tremendous for our student-athletes, the
East Tennessee region and the sport of softball in our region. The efforts by the Johnson City
Convention and Visitors Bureau are to be commended for bringing this exciting event to our area.”
With the return of softball to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games program, the “Stand Beside Her” tour
provides much-needed training and competition for the 2020 WNT in their preparation for the
Olympic Games while also giving fans a chance to watch the Red, White and Blue in person.
Olympic competition will start July 22, 2020 with the Gold Medal Game being played on July 28.
The “Stand Beside Her” tour evokes a powerful message of unity aimed to inspire communities to
stand beside HER – the members of the WNT, America and the future generation of female
athletes.
“Johnson City, Tennessee is honored to host USA Softball Women’s National Team for an
exhibition game in May 2020,” said Johnson City Convention & Visitors Bureau Executive Director,
Brenda Whitson. “It is very special for a community and region to have the opportunity to see
Olympic athletes play firsthand. It will be an experience that many will never forget.”
