Tennessee’s Oldest Town will celebrate the 49th Annual Jonesborough Days Festival July 4ththrough July 6th. Family activities, an exciting music line-up, handmade local crafts, patriotic parade, fireworks, storytelling and much more are scheduled for the holiday weekend.
The 2019 Jonesborough Days Festival will begin Thursday, July 4th at 10 a.m. with the Parade kicking off the festivities. Activities, music, children’s train rides, festival foods, contests and more will continue throughout the weekend creating the perfect family fun experience!
The festival has been voted as one of the top events in the southeast and is known for its community patriotism and nostalgic atmosphere. Various entertainment and activities will take place throughout the historic district on all three days.
Main Stage Music
The Jonesborough Days Main Stage will feature the sounds of regional favorites along with never before seen bands in Tennessee’s Oldest Town. Enjoy entertainment each evening from 7:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. The performers are scheduled as follows:
Thursday, July 4th- The WannaBeatles
Friday night July 5th- Beach Nite Band
Saturday night July 6th- The Breakfast Club.
Kicking off Jonesborough Days Festival is the patriotic parade, set to march down Boone and Main Streets in downtown Jonesborough on Thursday, July 4th at 10 a.m. The Jonesborough Days Festival Committee is seeking floats and entries decorated in their best red, white and blue and playing everyone’s favorite patriotic music.
The cost for registration is $25 for regular entries and $50 for political and commercial entries. Along with your entry fee, donations are being accepted for the Jonesborough Food Pantry. The food pantry helps provide food for families in need in our community. Please bring your non-perishable food items to Jonesborough Town Hall between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Dog Days of Summer: Dog Costume Contest
Join us for a howlin’ good time during your favorite patriotic doggie costume contest on Friday, July 5th starting at 10 a.m. in front of the Courthouse.
Bring your pup dressed to impress in their summer wardrobe! Categories include:
Best Swimwear (small dog and large dog categories)
Most Patriotic (small dog and large dog categories)
Dog And Owner Look-A-Like (small dog and large dog categories)
Entry is free and prizes will be awarded in each category. Those interested in participating will need to arrive at the Courthouse by 9:45 a.m., no pre-registration needed. Water, cooling stations and treats will be available for all participants.
Low Country Shrimp Boil
The Low Country Shrimp Boil fundraiser is always a festival favorite, featuring great food and entertainment. To purchase tickets, call 423.753.1010 or visit the Historic Jonesborough Visitors Center.
MoonPie Eating Contest
Come test your time on the snack known for being “as big as the moon” during Jonesborough Days 3rd Annual MoonPie Eating Contest. The contest will take place in front of the Courthouse where contestants will be challenged to see who can finish their MoonPies first.
There will be 3 categories including:
8 and under
9 to 15
16 & up
Here are the Rules!
Contestants may begin eating when MC says “go”.
Contestants can have water to drink while competing.
Whoever eats the most MoonPies in 3 minute (and keeps it down), wins.
Both hands may be used.
Judges words are final.
After you completely eat each MoonPie, you must very loudly yell, “I LOVE MOONPIES” while clapping repeatedly at the same time. Then, remove the wrapper off your next MoonPie and eat it. Continuing on until time runs out.
Eaters who suffer a reversal of fortune and/or urges contrary to swallowing are asked to partake of the garbage bag at your table. In such an event, the eater will be disqualified.
Registration is free and begins at 1:30 p.m. in front of the Courthouse, space is limited. When you arrive be prepared to fill out a brief waiver. The winners of each category will receive FREE MoonPies for a year.
Jonesborough Days is also home to over 70 local handmade crafters, featuring some of the best craftsmen in the region.

There will be lots of family fun and memories to take with you in our Discovery Park, taking place behind the Storytelling Center all weekend. You will find hands-on ways to experience activities only found in Jonesborough including McKinney Center Art and Performance classes, Oak Hill School Sessions, an Archaeology Dig and Heritage Games and more. We will also feature the I Made it Market again, where young entrepreneurs get a chance to sell their handmade art and goods. Visit Discovery Park each day and see what all Jonesborough has to discover!
Storytelling And Music At Doc’s Front Porch
Enjoy stories and music of all kinds at Doc’s Front Porch. Doc’s front porch pays tribute to one of Jonesborough’s favorite storytellers, Doc McConnell. Doc would pull his old-fashioned wagon in front of the Storytelling Center and perform his “Old Time Medicine Show”. Every year, Doc’s Front Porch returns to Jonesborough Days with a variety of storytellers and musicians who perform on the Plaza at the International Storytelling Center, during the day.
Other Things Happening In Town
The Jonesborough Repertory Theatre will also present Mamma Mia! with performances scheduled all weekend long. Visit their website, Jonesboroughtheatre.com for showtimes and tickets.

Parking And Other Information
Parking will be available at the Jonesborough Middle School for $5/car and a free shuttle will be running all weekend long. Admission to the festival is free and open to the public.
