Jonesborough: Music on the Square
September 17, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Music on the Square, one of Jonesborough’s live outdoor concert series, continues each Friday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. now through September in front of the Washington County Courthouse on Main Street. Music on the Square was a pioneer in the region for summer concert series, getting its start over two decades ago. The event continues to be a tradition for many and a new way to spend Friday evenings for others.
Music on the Square is music at its best with the townscape of downtown Jonesborough as the setting. Attendees can experience a variety of music from folk to bluegrass and roots-rock to Argentinian-inspired styles. Music on the Square is a free event but event goers are encouraged to bring a chair or a blanket to ensure a seat.
Attendees are encouraged to come early and grab dinner at one of our local restaurants or from the weekly rotating food truck just beside the courthouse. The food truck will begin serving each Friday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Most downtown restaurants such as, Texas Burritos & More, Jonesborough Barrell House and Gigi’s Pantry offer carry-out as well as the East Tennessee Hemp Company serving a variety of ice creams.
This Historic Jonesborough tradition of over 20 years is seeking support to continue this community event. Normally, the Music on the Square fundraiser takes place in March, but was cancelled the last two years due to COVID-19. To offset the costs, the event is accepting donations during the event and online at Jonesborough.com/musiconthesquare. Attendees can also show support by purchasing Music on the Square tees, CDs and posters. The tees were created by Summer Buchanan, and the poster is a beautiful design by Bill Bledsoe and each is individually signed with only 300 printed. Contact the Jonesborough Visitors Center and Emporium at 423.753.1010, come in and shop, or make your purchase at the merchandise booth during the remainder of the Music on the Square concerts taking place each Friday evening through September. Items can be shipped.
