Lyrics & Lore
January 17 - January 18
|International Storytelling Center and Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort and Spa partner to host Lyrics & Lore on Jan. 17-18
The International Storytelling Center, Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort and Spa, and Bandtwango will partner once again to present the fourth annual Lyrics & Lore event on Jan. 17-18, 2020. This unforgettable weekend of music and storytelling at Dollywood’s Dreammore Resort and Spa, located in the heart of the Smoky Mountains, brings together the inspiration of songs and stories to celebrate their rich tradition in our region.
Event headliners Beth Nielson Chapman and Deana Carter bring excitement and world-class talent to this year’s event. Chapman has made her mark in the music world by writing award-winning hits for a variety of artists including Elton John, Better Midler, Faith Hill, and Martina McBride. Her music has been widely featured in both television hits and major motion pictures. Country songwriter, recording artist, and producer Deana Carter is known for her 1996 multi-platinum international debut album, “Did I Shave My Legs for This,” which included her wildly popular single, “Strawberry Wine.” Carter has also lent her talents to co-writing for artists like Kenny Chesney and Audra Mae as well as producing her own latest album, “A Southern Way of Life.”
Storytelling experts Geraldine Buckley and Andy Offutt Irwin headline the storytelling side of this year’s Lyrics & Lore event. Buckley is an award-winning storyteller who has been telling stories for more than 30 years across multiple countries. Her signature style is marked by sharing personal anecdotes that showcase her charming wit, warmth, and humor. Storyteller Andy Offutt-Irwin is a one-person showman and one of the most sought-after performing storytellers in the country. He is known for his whimsical voice, hilarious heart-filled stories, and incredible whistling.
The event also features Dave Berg, a country music songwriter whose list of credits include Top 10 hits by Keith Urban and Blake Shelton; Tim James, a country music songwriter with hits that include Grammy-nominated tracks from Trace Adkins and radio favorites from Lee Brice; and Guthrie Trapp, one of Nashville’s preeminent guitar talents who is currently finishing work on a follow-up to his successful solo album, “Pick Peace.”
A variety of workshops and performances give event guests the opportunity to learn from all these masters of the craft. Audience members have the opportunity to enjoy these internationally-recognized artists as they share their stories and learn about the most popular songs heard on the radio. Additionally, everyone can sit back and enjoy listening to these hit songs and stories on Friday and Saturday evening when the songwriters that created these chart toppers perform. Guests can attend both of these evening concerts, featuring Beth Nielson Chapman and Deana Carter, at no cost. Those interested in attending the Lyrics & Lore event do not have to be staying at Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort and Spa to attend, but should note that some of the music concerts are separately ticketed events.
As the recipient of ISC’s first-ever Seal of Excellence, Dollywood’s Dream More Resort and Spa and the International Storytelling Center have been working together since 2014 to highlight the distinct cultural offerings of the region and the role they’ve played in shaping lives here in Northeast Tennessee. Bandtwango is a crowd-sourced, fan-funded, career development platform exclusively for country music artists and bands.
