McKinney Center: MLK Day Celebration

To celebrate and remember Martin Luther King Jr. this year, the McKinney Center invites the community to join them in a month-long service project and a Virtual Event on January 18^th, 2:00 pm. Help us donate food to the JAMA Food Pantry then, join us for an online stream on the McKinney Center’s Facebook page to see live readings from MLK’s speech, local Black history, and singing.

As we remember Dr. King, we remember his call to service, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ‘What are you doing for others?’” The McKinney Center is inviting the Jonesborough community to join in celebrating the service of Dr. King by participating in a food drive to support the JAMA (Jonesborough Area Ministerial Association) Food Pantry. The JAMA Food Pantry serves residents holding a Jonesborough, Telford, or Limestone addresses. In particular, the Food Pantry needs cereal, canned veggies, canned meat, boxed dinners, canned fruit, pinto beans, kidney beans, and other non-perishable foods. To donate food items please drop off any items at the McKinney Center until January 18^th at Noon, Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. Please help us to feed our community especially after a very difficult year. We will be collecting food items from December 14th – January 18^th at Noon.

To keep our community safe, this year our usual “Peace Walk” will be replaced with a virtual event that will celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. King through song lead by Ubunibi-Afia Agbenyaga Short, as well as MLK speech readings from and Karen Sullivan, Brittany Butler, and others.
