Rocks on Roan

Get ready to explore the geology of Roan Mountain State Park. Meet Ranger Jesse at the Gristmill Visitor Center, from here we will begin a guided hike on the Peg Leg Mine Trail (half-mile, easy to moderate). On the trail, we will take an up-close look at the old Peg Leg Mine and check out samples of the rocks and minerals found in the area. But the real fun comes when we get to discussing mineral formation and each visitor will have the opportunity to check out the inside of their very own geode! Preregistration and a fee of $5.00 per participant is required. Space is limited.
