Sensory Easter Egg Hunt
JONESBOROUGH, TN – The Town of Jonesborough Parks & Recreation Department will host its first-ever Sensory Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 19, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Lincoln Park, behind the Jonesborough Senior Center, following the Easter Eggstravaganza in Downtown Jonesborough from 12 to 3 p.m. This inclusive event is designed for individuals of all ages with disabilities or those who benefit from a calmer, slower-paced environment.
The event will feature a variety of sensory-friendly activities and designated egg hunt zones tailored to accommodate different needs.
The event will begin at 4 p.m. with check-in and a welcome session. Attendees will be greeted by event volunteers and a sensory-friendly support team. A quiet welcome space will be available to assist with transitions and adjustments.
At 5 p.m., the Sensory Easter Egg Hunt will take place. Participants can choose from different hunt zones based on their sensory preferences. A quiet zone will be available for those who prefer a low-stimulation area with minimal noise, smaller groups, and no loud surprises. A traditional egg hunt zone will provide a slower-paced experience with eggs spaced out for easy collection. Sensory-friendly eggs will contain small toys, stickers, and sensory-friendly treats instead of candy.
Throughout the event, attendees can engage in various sensory-friendly crafts and games, including Easter-themed sensory art projects, wooden Easter egg decorating with textured materials, and bunny mask-making with soft supplies. A Bubble Zone will provide a relaxing experience, while a bean bag bunny toss and a soft play area will offer movement and calm play opportunities. Allergy-friendly light refreshments will be available. A special photo opportunity with a friendly, non-costumed Easter Bunny will also be featured.
To conclude the event, a free screening on the movie Hop will be played at the Lincoln Park Amphitheater beginning at 7:30 p.m. This screening is sponsored by The Jackson Theatre.
Families are encouraged to bring personal sensory supports if needed. Volunteers will be available throughout the event to provide assistance. The Sensory Easter Egg Hunt aims to create a welcoming and enjoyable experience for all participants.
