The Sullivan County Department of Archives and Tourism cordially invites you to the Grand Opening of the Heritage Tourism Information Center for Sullivan County, Tennessee. The ceremony for the Grand Opening will be held at 2 PM on Friday, November 22, 2019, 1575 Highway 394, Blountville, TN 37617.
Mayor Richard S. Venable will provide a brief opening address, and Shelia Hunt will introduce the department’s new marketing associate, Angela Crane, and the department’s assistant archivist, Maria Hale, who will be curating museum exhibits for the tourism center.
Formerly the Old Sheriff’s Home, the structure was renovated and dedicated as a Heritage Tourism Information Center in 2018. The newly opened building will be multi-faceted in use. In addition to providing tourists with information on attractions in the area, the tourism center will also serve as a starting point for walking tours of Historic Blountville and a center for the Battle of Blountville Civil War Military Park.
The first Civil War exhibit has been installed and will be available for viewing at the Grand Opening. In the coming weeks, the Department of Archives and Tourism will be installing additional exhibits for Civil War artifacts and local history memorabilia in two of the museum rooms.
For additional information, please contact Shelia Hunt at (423) 323-4660.
