World-renowned guitarist and singer John Pizzarelli honors Nat King Cole, one of the 20th Century’s most beloved recording artists, with a new album, and a national tour that is coming to Bristol. Pizzarelli’s latest album, For Centennial Reasons, is his third tribute to the legendary musician whose timeless songs landed on the top of the pop charts more than 100 times during his day and remain among the most recognizable of tunes in The Great American Songbook.
It’s also a return to Pizzarelli’s roots. While he has earned wide crossover success honoring both jazz and pop artists, Pizzarelli is never is more at home than when covering his early idols, like Sinatra and Cole. He revisits Cole classics like “Route 66” “Paper Moon” and “Straighten Up and Fly Right,” songs he performed early in his career on gigs with his father, master guitarist “Bucky” Pizzarelli.
Hailed by the Boston Globe for “reinvigorating the Great American Songbook and re-popularizing jazz.” The Toronto Star pegged him as “the genial genius of the guitar.” And the Seattle Times saluted him as “a rare entertainer of the old school.” Pizzarelli’s appearance in Bristol is a rare event.
The tour will feature John Pizzarelli on guitar and vocals with Mike Karn on double bass, and Konrad Paszkudzki on piano.
