SUMMARY:28th Annual Taste of Greeneville
DESCRIPTION:The 28th annual “Taste of Greeneville” will be held on Tuesday\, May 2\, beginning at 6 p.m. on the General Morgan Inn Terrace (or in the ballroom in case of bad weather)\, a press release from Main Street: Greeneville says.\n\n\nAll proceeds from the event will benefit the programs of the GFWC Greeneville Woman’s Club and Main Street: Greeneville\, co-hosts of the event.\n\n\nLocal restaurants and others in the food industry will provide attendees with samples of food\, drinks or desserts that they proudly display in their decorated space. Some will offer coupons and specials that only those attending will receive.\n\n\nInvitations to participate have been sent to many of those within the local food industry\, however\, Jann Mirkov\, executive director with Main Street: Greeneville urges anyone interested in presenting this year to email a request for registration forms to director@mainstreetgreeneville.org and put the words Taste of Greeneville in the subject line.\n\n\n“Each year we hear from interested vendors that we missed getting in touch with; so if you are out there and want to join us please email me with your request for information as space is limited\,” Mirkov said in the release.\n\n\nTickets for the Taste of Greeneville are $12 each this year and may be purchased at the front desk of the General Morgan Inn\, Main Street: Greeneville office\, 310 S. Main Street\, Richland Creek Gifts\, 129A N. Main Street\, or through members of both the GFWC Greeneville Woman’s Club and Main Street: Greeneville Board.\n\n\nAnn Van Buskirk\, of the GFWC Greeneville Woman’s Club International Outreach Committee and one of the event’s co-hosts\, said she is “amazed” that though the first Taste of Greeneville event happened more than a quarter-century ago\, “people continue to support us just like it was yesterday. They look forward to the annual Taste of Greeneville and all the goodies the vendors bring to share. We encourage everyone to get their tickets early as the event is usually a sellout.”\n\n\nFurther information is availble from the Main Street: Greeneville office at 639-7102.

SUMMARY:Jonesborough Farmers Market Grand Opening
DESCRIPTION:Jonesborough Farmers Market will kick off its 10th season\n \nOn Saturday\, May 6th\, the Jonesborough Farmers Market will kick off its 10th season on Courthouse Square in historic downtown Jonesborough from 8 a.m. until noon.\n \nThe market offers fresh eggs\, beef\, chicken\, pork\, goat cheese\, baked goods\, produce (both traditional and chemical free)\, ready-to-eat foods\, plants\, pet treats\, and select garden and kitchen-related crafts.  The Jonesborough Farmers Market was founded in 2008 as the areas first producer-only market\, and it is still required that all items at the market are locally grown or made\, and sold directly by the producer.\n \n“This year we are welcoming a great selection of vendors\,” Market Coordinator\, Erin Giebner\, said. “Several vendors have been with us all ten years\, some are brand new. Together they will offer an impressive variety of locally-produced foods.”\n \nMany features are planned for this year’s market. “On May 6 we will debut our breakfast food court\,” Giebner said. “We will be adding additional seating space and offering a variety of breakfast options. Dona Eva Becerra\, known for her authentic tamales\, will be offering breakfast burritos. Pat Lynch of Farmhouse Gallery will have baked goods\, DNA catering will be creating two fresh breakfast offerings each week\, one sweet and one savory\, and each featuring one or more ingredients from the market. The Corner Cup will be set up with their fresh-brewed\, local-blend coffee and other drinks right at the market.\n \nOther activities this year include a weekly 5K training run that is coordinated with Jonesborough Parks & Recreation. Called the “Free Range Runners\,” any interested runners can meet at the market information booth at 8:30am each Saturday for a free fun-run along either a 1-mile or a 3-mile course. In September\, a timed 5K will be offered along the route. The first run will be May 6th.\n \nActivities for children have always been popular at the market\, and this year they will be available every week. These activities are possible through gracious partnerships with the numerous volunteers and organizations. The McKinney Center will host a seed planting activity on May 6th in the kid’s tent.\n \nSince the first season\, weekly live music has been a popular attraction at the market. Music starts at 9am each week and the opening market will feature The Bluebirds\, Ryan and Amy Bernard\, performing “Country tunes for your back porch pleasure.”\n \nOther new features will begin later in the summer. They include chef demonstrations\, “Healthy Eating Tours” of the market to provide customers with a guided tour to meet farmers and learn about how to use fresh produce in a healthy diet\, “Go Fetch Run” activities for dog owners and their pets\, and Appalachian Sustainable Development’s Rooted in Appalachia Roadshow which will bring their special events to the market to highlight local food on June 17.\n \nGiebner is excited about these many new features\, but emphasized that they are only possible due to the volunteer team that runs the market.  Geibner shares her duties as market coordinator with Kari Simmons\, both Americorps Service Members working with Jonesborough Locally Grown (JLG)\, the non-profit agency that coordinates the farmers market and Boone Street Market. A large team of volunteers also lend a hand each week to help the market run smoothly.\n \nAnyone interested in volunteering with the market may contact Erin Giebner\, Market Coordinator\, at jbofarmersmarket@gmail.com or call 423-752-4722\n \nFor more information and to sign up for the market e-newsletter\, visit www.jonesborough.locallygrown.net

SUMMARY:Jonesborough Farmers Market
DESCRIPTION:The market offers fresh eggs\, beef\, chicken\, pork\, goat cheese\, baked goods\, produce (both traditional and chemical free)\, ready-to-eat foods\, plants\, pet treats\, and select garden and kitchen-related crafts. They include chef demonstrations\, “Healthy Eating Tours” of the market to provide customers with a guided tour to meet farmers and learn about how to use fresh produce in a healthy diet\, “Go Fetch Run” activities for dog owners and their pets\, and Appalachian Sustainable Development’s Rooted in Appalachia Roadshow which will bring their special events to the market to highlight local food on June 17.\n \nAnyone interested in volunteering with the market may contact Erin Giebner\, Market Coordinator\, at jbofarmersmarket@gmail.com or call 423-752-4722\n \nFor more information and to sign up for the market e-newsletter\, visit www.jonesborough.locallygrown.net

SUMMARY:Soda Fest
DESCRIPTION:Soda Fest and Movies on Main to kick off Jonesborough’s big festival season on May 27.\n \nSoda Fest is designed to expand your taste buds with exposure to flavorful soda pop while providing a different festival style experience bringing generations together while sampling a variety of different sodas\, some you’ve heard of and some that will make your taste buds ask for more.\n \n“The idea is simple and we will incorporate an initiative for business to be open later downtown\,” Jeff Gurley said.  “Alive after 5 is an organized effort to promote Historic Jonesborough on Saturday evenings during the summer months. Most downtown businesses and restaurants will be open later on Saturday evenings June through August.”\n \nJonesborough’s downtown is already Alive after 5 on Saturday evenings with food\, outdoor movies and theatre performances\, and the Jonesborough Area Merchants & Services Association wanted to make an effort to give the community somewhere to eat\, shop and be entertained in their hometown during the summer months.\n \n“There are wine tastings and beer festivals.  I thought Soda Fest would be something different and fun for the entire family to enjoy.” Gurley said.\nSoda Fest will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. with soda stop tastings all along Main Street and Jonesborough’s Historic District. Each soda stop will include a soda jerk who will be pouring the samples in 2 oz. cups for festival goers to enjoy.\n \n“One of the most talked about soda stops has been the totally gross sodas from Avery’s Beverages including Bug Barf\, Zombie Brain Juice\, Toxic Slime\, Monster Mucas\, Kitty Piddle and Dog Drool\,” Gurley said.\n \nThose who enjoy nostalgic candies from the past will savor the Astro Pop Pineapple\, Cherry and Passion Fruit flavors.  Mexican Pepsi and Coke will also be available with classics like Cheerwine\, Nehi Peach\, Orange Crush and NuGrape.  Green River Snappy Lime has the sweet taste of a lollipop and its bright green color has been around since 1919.\n \n“While many people have enjoyed Orange Crush\, did you know there is a Strawberry Crush and Grape Crush too?  We’ll have those classic sodas\, as others might be tempted to try our bizarre flavors too\,” Gurley said.\n \nIf sampling rare sodas is your goal\, the Peanut Butter and Jelly\, Chocolate Chip\, Bacon\, Pumpkin Pie\, Sweet Corn\, Buffalo Wing and Ranch Dressing flavors will also be on site for tasting.\n \nSoda Fest will take place on May 27 and will be similar to the popular Chocolate Fest event held in Jonesborough this past February\, with each soda tasting requiring one ticket. Ticket packs are available in increments of 15 tickets for $12.\n \nTickets available now by visiting Jonesborough.com or calling 423-753-1010.
