SUMMARY:Wildlife Painting Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Wildlife painting workshop explores predator and prey \nDiscover new approaches and techniques for painting wildlife in the latest painting workshop from international master wildlife artist Suzanne Barrett Justis. \nThe three-day workshop – titled “Predator & Prey”- will take place May 19-21 at the Carousel Carvers Studio (350 Clinchfield Street) in downtown Kingsport. \nParticipants will be guided through the process of creating two wildlife paintings – one of a coyote and the other of a jackrabbit – through a combination of painting demonstrations\, fun and informative lectures and one-on-one instruction. \nThe cost of the “Predator & Prey” workshop is $390 per person and the classes are limited to the first 18 people who sign up. Sign up for this workshop on Eventbrite using the following link: https://bit.ly/3I1mCwn. If you have questions\, you may contact Suzanne Justis at smbjustis@aol.com. \nTopics such as understanding form\, design\, and color to create drama as well as introducing painting techniques that will enhance your work\, are just some of the vital components of wildlife painting that will be covered in this workshop. \nThe workshop is open to beginners through professional artists. Students should bring the reference provided by Justis\, preferably on an iPad or tablet\, the items on the material list\, and the expectation to have fun and learn more about painting wildlife. \nTwo lucky attendees will also receive the two painting demos Justis completes in the workshop. \nAbout the Office of Cultural Arts \nThe Office of Cultural Arts (OCA)\, part of the City of Kingsport\, connects\, coordinates and engages the public with a creative community. We operate the Renaissance Arts Center\, the Farmer’s Market\, the Kingsport Carousel\, the Carousel Fine Craft Show\, Kingsport Public Art Program\, Engage Kingsport Performing Arts Series and a broad range of support to the area’s arts organizations. The OCA works in tandem with Engage Kingsport\, Inc.\, the “Friends of the Cultural Arts” group\, a private\, volunteer-led 501(c)3 non-profit community organization. \nAbout the City of Kingsport \nFounded in 1917\, the City of Kingsport (pop. 55\,400) is located on the Tennessee-Virginia border at the crossroads of I-81 and I-26 near the geographic center of the eastern U.S. The city is widely known as a planned community\, designed by renowned city planner John Nolen and wrapping around the foot of Bays Mountain – a 3\,750-acre park\, nature preserve\, planetarium and observatory. Kingsport is recognized as an International Safe Community by the National Safety Council\, a Healthier Tennessee community\, and won the 2009 Harvard Innovations in American Government Award for its higher education initiatives. While many city names are duplicated throughout the U.S.\, there’s only one Kingsport – a fact that invokes community pride\, known locally as the “Kingsport Spirit.” \n###
