Learn the types of wood the Cherokee and other\nlocal tribes used\, proper technique\, and the history of this challenging but rewarding fire starting method. Try it yourself!\nOpen to all ages. Program lasts for about 30 minutes. Meet in the longhunter camp near the amphitheater past Fort\nWatauga. Subject to location change or cancelation in the event of inclement weather.

This two-day event will bring history to life with storytelling\, live\ndemonstrations\, and hands-on activities\, exploring the daily lives of Overmountain Men\, frontier\nfamilies\, and early settlers.\nPartnering with the Overmountain Victory Trail Association (OVTA)\, Rocky Mount will showcase historical reenactments\, militia drills\, and interactive programs that highlight the site’s vital role\nin Tennessee and American history.\nExperience Life in the 1700s During Frontier Days\, the historic site will come alive with costumed interpreters\, working artisans\, and reenactors who recreate daily life in the late 18th century.
