SUMMARY:Jonesborough: Christmas in July
DESCRIPTION:Jonesborough merchants prepare for the annual Christmas in July celebration\, which will take place from July 23 to July 30. \nTennessee’s Oldest Town will be festive with Santa’s sleigh in front of the Washington County Courthouse decorated with a Christmas in July theme. \nOn Saturday\, July 24 a photographer will be on site to take pictures for any attendees at no charge\, Santa in his summer attire will be at the Lollipop Shop from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.\, Jonesborough’s Movies on Main returns with Home Alone starting at 8 p.m.\, and attendees might see some snow! \nEvent goers are encouraged to take part in the special offerings provided by participating downtown businesses. DESCRIPTION:Warriors’ Path State Park hopes you enjoy your visit! While you are at the park take advantage of the rich natural beauty and wealth of opportunities for enjoyable recreation. \nTUESDAY JULY 27 \n12 NOON MYSTERY BAG – Try your hand at discovering some natural textures. See if you can guess which natural object is which. Meet at the Open Air Chapel\, or the main bathhouse if it is raining. \n2:00 PM COOL DOWN LAKE WALK – Let’s dabble our toes in the water and enjoy all the “cool” discoveries. Meet at the campfire circle\, east end of the campground. \n4:00 PM BUBBLES – Make the air sparkle with bright bubbles. See who can make the biggest\, the longest-lasting or the most. Or just enjoy chasing them!! Meet at the Open Air Chapel\, or main bathhouse if it is raining. \n7:00 PM TRACKING – One of our smallest “wildlife ambassadors” will help us find out how to be a wildlife detective! A small native animal will teach us how to read the tracks\, dens\, and other signs of our fellow creatures. Meet at the Open Air Chapel\, or main bathhouse if it is raining. \n9:00 PM NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY – We all love taking pictures! And photos are a perfect way to preserve memories of beautiful outdoor places. Find out how to use even the simplest camera as a way to conserve natural memories. Meet at the Open Air Chapel for a slide-illustrated nature photography “lesson.” In case of rain\, meet at the pool entrance. \nWEDNESDAY JULY 28 \n9:00 AM NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY WALK – Come practice your camera skills\, or just come to enjoy the natural beauty. Bring your camera if you have one\, and drive to the camp store. We’ll carpool to the start of our walk. We might even have a few extra cameras along if you’d like to borrow one! \n12 NOON 100 INCH HIKE – Especially for small\, tired feet! Discover life on the tiny side. This will also be a great chance to catch a critter for the races! Meet at the main bathhouse. \n12:30 PM CRITTER RACE FOR FREEDOM – Bring your best creepy crawler to the main bathhouse. They’ll all win because they’ll all get their freedom. No pets or flying creatures\, please. \n1:30 PM INSECT ART – They’re more than just creepy crawlers. Take a closer look – insects have some amazing colors and patterns! Let’s use insects as “living models” for our art. Meet at the Open Air Chapel\, or main bathhouse if it is raining. \n3:00 PM “WONDERFUL WACKY WET WEDNESDAY” – Enjoy kid-friendly water play and learning activities. You might even get to soak the Park Ranger. Meet at the Open Air Chapel. Be prepared to get VERY WET! NOTE: All activities meet in and near the park’s Main Campground unless otherwise specified. \n6:00 PM EVENING STROLL – Let’s wake up our senses to evening in the forest. Meet at the main bathhouse for a short\, refreshing hike. \n8:30 PM FURRY FLIERS – There’s no need to fear these furry little pilots! Get the facts about our common East Tennessee bats. Meet at the Open Air Chapel\, or pool entrance if it is raining. \nTHURSDAY JULY 29 \n9:30 AM DEVIL’S BACKBONE HIKE -Come hike to the high places\, and get some new views of our parkland. Drive to the camp store\, and we’ll carpool to the start of an invigorating hike. \n11:30 AM LEAF RUBBINGS – Let’s “rub up against” some nature discoveries. Create a lasting reminder of nature’s amazing textures. Meet at the Open Air Chapel\, or pool entrance if it is raining. \n3:00 PM LICHENS – Come walk to discover some of our park’s most amazing plants! You’ll really “take a liking” to them! Meet at the main bathhouse. \n5:00 PM FLYWAYS & BYWAYS – Meet at the Open Air Chapel to discover more about the creatures that WING their way through the Warriors’ Path. In case of rain\, meet at the main bathhouse. \n7:00 PM MEET THE OWL – Meet a REAL LIVE feathered hunter\, and learn his fascinating life story. Come to the Open Air Chapel and see “whooo…” is waiting for you. If it is raining\, meet at the main bathhouse. \n9:00 PM NIGHT SOUNDS – Nature is full of sounds when the sun goes down! Some seem eerie\, but there’s no need to be nervous. Come find out whose noise is whose. Meet at the Open Air Chapel for a short slide show of the creatures who “talk” in the night! (At the pool entrance if it is raining.) NOTE – there will be a special NIGHT SOUNDS contest for children after the show. \nFRIDAY\, JULY 30 \n9:00 AM HIKE PAW PAW CREEK – Come hike a remote wetland trail. Discover the amazing natural diversity in these lush green woods. Meet at the Mountain Bike Trail parking lot. Be sure to wear good hiking footwear. \n10:00 AM MORNING BIRD WALK – Wake up and smell the worms! Come for a nice morning walk around the campground and greet the day with our feathered friends! Bring binoculars if you have them (we’ll have a few extras). Meet at the Camp Store. \n12:30 PM EDIBLE PLANTS RAMBLE – Are they weeds or are they dinner? Learn to make a salad from lawn plants. Meet at the camp store and let’s walk on down. \n2:30 PM LEATHER CRAFTS – Create your own custom-made keychain or bracelet! Meet at the main bathhouse to design your leather souvenir.(Limit of one per person). \n4:00 PM SKULLS – NATURE’S TOOLBOX – Every animal carries along with all the tools it needs for survival! Come investigate some natural “toolboxes\,” and find out more about each animal’s job! Meet at the Open Air Chapel\, or main bathhouse if it is raining. \n7:00 PM OLD TIMEY GAMES – Enjoy some good-old fun! Try some games from the early settlement days of East Tennessee. Meet at the Open Air Chapel\, or main bathhouse if it’s raining. \n9:00 PM TENNESSEE TALES – Enjoy new insights into Tennessee Folklife as we share some good-old traditional tall tales. Meet at the Open Air Chapel\, or pool entrance if it rains. \nSATURDAY\, JULY 31 \n9:00 AM SINKING WATERS RIDGE HIKE – Explore succession – the changing face of nature – on the first loop of the Sinking Waters Trail. We’ll discover the woodlands changing all around us! Drive to the camp store\, and we’ll carpool to the start of the trail. \n12 NOON CREEK WALK – Get on your old clothes and tennis shoes. It’s time to explore the cool\, clear creek waters. We’ll discover a world of an amazing life. Drive to the camp store\, and we’ll carpool. Be prepared to get wet! \n2:00 PM NATURE BOOKMARKS – Mark your place in your favorite summer reading with a natural arrangement. Creating a lasting souvenir of your park visit. Meet at the Open Air Chapel\, or main bathhouse if it is raining. \n4:00 PM NOISY TOYS – How did the pioneer children make music or noise? Make your very own “musical” instrument with a few simple things from nature. Meet at the Open Air Chapel to create some “beautiful music.” In case of rain\, meet at the main bathhouse. \n7:00 PM GINSENG – This native herb has a LONG history with generations of travelers along the Warriors’ Path. Come “taste” some of ginseng’s fascinating history. Meet at the Open Air Chapel\, or pool entrance if it’s raining. \n8:00 PM BAT & MOTH – Use your ears and your “bug hunting” skills! See if you could survive a night out in the woods and fields — if you were a flying bug! Meet at the Open Air Chapel\, or pool entrance if it is raining. \nSUNDAY\, AUGUST 1 \n9:00 AM WORSHIP SERVICE – Enjoy a peaceful morning worship service at the Open Air Chapel\, or at the pool entrance if it is raining.
