Held every third Friday\, each event will spotlight a different chapter in the evolution of country music\, building momentum toward a landmark centennial celebration. \n\nRecognized by the U.S. Congress as the single most important event in the history of country music\, the 1927 Bristol Sessions launched the careers of legends like The Carter Family and Jimmie Rodgers and ignited a genre that continues to shape American culture. Bristol Sessions Nights will honor that legacy while showcasing the artists and sounds carrying it forward today. \n\n“The City of Bristol\, Tennessee is proud to lead this effort as we approach the 100th anniversary of the Bristol Sessions\,” said Mayor Vince Turner. “As the birthplace of a defining moment in American music\, it is our responsibility to honor that legacy in a way that reflects both its historical significance and its continued influence today.” \n\nThat vision is being brought to life in collaboration with the ETSU Appalachian Music Collective and the ETSU Department of Appalachian Studies\, who together guide the series’ curatorial vision\, blending regional artist engagement with cultural scholarship and student-driven experiential learning. \n\nA Yearlong Story in Three Acts \nThe series unfolds in a carefully curated arc: \n\nAct I: The Recordings (May–July 2026) – Immersive origin stories revisiting 1927 and the birth of country music.\nAct II: The Evolution (August–December 2026) – How Bristol’s spark shaped bluegrass\, songwriting\, and mountain music traditions across a century.\nAct III: The Road to 100 (January–April 2027) – Rising energy\, new voices\, and expanded programming leading into the centennial.\n\n\n“The ETSU Department of Appalachian Studies and its Bluegrass\, Old-Time\, and Roots Music program are dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich cultural heritage of our remarkable region\,” said Department Chair Ron Roach. “We are pleased to partner with the Bristol community in this series that highlights one of the signature events in Appalachian and American music.” \n\nThe journey culminates in May 2027 with the inaugural Bristol Sessions Festival\, a Memorial Day Weekend celebration commemorating 100 years since the recordings that changed music forever. \n  \nA Cultural Engine for the Region \nBeyond the stage\, Bristol Sessions Nights is designed to drive meaningful impact across the community and region. The monthly series creates sustained visibility for Bristol and the broader Appalachian region as a premier music destination\, activates downtown businesses through strategic partnerships\, and builds a steady pipeline of audiences leading into the 2027 festival. \n\nThe initiative also highlights the strength of the region’s music economy. According to the 2024 Northeast Tennessee Music Census\, the industry generates $75.9 million in annual economic output and supports more than 500 full-time equivalent jobs.
