SUMMARY:James Gregory: America's Funniest Man
DESCRIPTION:For over two decades\, the unforgettable caricature of veteran comedian James Gregory has stood grinning: his shirt untucked\, his arms outstretched\, a carefree welcome to a down-home\, hilarious comedy experience. It’s storytelling at its best. The trademark caricature is the essence of humorist James Gregory’s comedy: rib-tickling reflections on life from the front porch.\nJames is constantly touring. He’s on the road about three days a week\, forty six weeks a year. He continues to entertain sold-out crowds in theaters and comedy clubs and remains in demand for corporate events. James has been the featured entertainer for over 200 corporations\, including the Coca Cola Company\, Kimberly Clark Corporation\, Hewlett Packard and Kroger. James has also been the featured speaker for events sponsored by various civic and church groups.

SUMMARY:The Gibson Brothers in Concert
DESCRIPTION:Sponsored by Smoky Mountain Living\nTwice named Entertainer of the Year\, The Gibson Brothers\, siblings Eric and Leigh\, are renowned equally for their instrumental prowess\, unmatched charisma and onstage storytelling as they are for their status as the premier brother-harmony duo in folk music today. Woven seamlessly between rip-pickin’ instrumentals\, tender lyrical ballads and stunning Gospel numbers\, The Gibson Brothers entertain audiences with personal stories of their humble beginnings\, childhood on the farm and more recent life on the road.\nSince childhood\, the brothers’ guiding stars have been songs recorded by music’s greatest brother duos: the Monroes\, the Louvins and the Everlys\, whose close harmonies have captivated listeners for decades. Their newest album\, Brotherhood\, features fifteen songs from country\, bluegrass and early rock ‘n’ roll brother acts. Listeners will immediately recognize material released by familiar names like Phil and Don Everly (“Bye Bye Love” and “Crying in the Rain”)\, Charlie and Ira Louvin (“Seven Year Blues”)\, Jim and Jesse McReynolds (“Sweet Little Miss Blue Eyes”)\, and Carter and Ralph Stanley (“How Mountain Girls Can Love”). Always performing dressed to the nines in suits and ties\, there’s a back-porch ease to the Gibson’s delivery and cadence that endears them to audiences of all ages.\nTicket Fee: $1.50 per ticket\nNo processing or delivery fees

SUMMARY:Radio Bristol Farm & Fun Time
DESCRIPTION:Radio Bristol Presents: Farm & Fun Time\, a live radio show at the Birthplace of Country Music Museum on Thursday\, April13\, at 7:00 p.m. with guest performances by The Malpass Brothers and The Price Sisters. Hosted by Kris Truelsen and featuring musical breaks by house band Bill and the Belles\, the program also features the Appalachian Sustainable Development Farm Report with Corbin Hayslett\, a recipe segment\, and much more!\nRadio Bristol Presents: Farm & Fun Time is a revival of WCYB radio’s Farm & Fun Time show which broadcast live from a studio inside the General Shelby Hotel in downtown Bristol. In the 1940s and the 1950s\, Farm & Fun Time was an important program in the history of early bluegrass music and helped to establish the careers of legendary performers including Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs\, the Stanley Brothers\, the Osborne Brothers\, Jim and Jesse McReynolds\, Mac Wiseman\, The Sauceman Brothers\, and Curly King & The Tennessee Hilltoppers.\nTickets to be part of the studio audience are $25 with open seating; doors open at 6:30 p.m.\nPURCHASE TICKETS – CLICK HERE \n\nABOUT THE MALPASS BROTHERS\nAs young boys\, Christopher and Taylor Malpass soaked up the music of their granddad’s phonograph records. Christopher earned his first talent show trophy at age 7\, and Taylor was playing mandolin by the time he was 10. Today\, they promote the work and music of classic country artists they treasure while creating new music and making their own mark in the lineage of a rich American cultural heritage.\nWith sincerity\, honesty and an utter ease on stage that belies their years\, their smooth vocal blend and skillful musicianship layer infectiously into the deep respect they pay to legends who have paved the way. Add the funny\, off-the-cuff quips between the two 20-something siblings\, and the engaging concert becomes a magnetic time-traveling journey to when a calmer rhythm reigned supreme.\nThe Malpass Brothers toured with the late Don Helms\, former steel guitarist for Hank Williams\, have opened for music legend Merle Haggard on multiple tours and appeared on stages from the Shetland Islands to Ryman Auditorium to Merlefest. Gifted musicians and songwriters\, the brothers have shared billing with artists including Ray Price\, Willie Nelson\, Doyle Lawson\, Rhonda Vincent\, Marty Stuart\, Doc Watson and more. The title cut video from their “Memory That Bad” album hit CMT Pure Country’s Top Ten. Their most recent self-titled recording\, produced by bluegrass legend Doyle Lawson\, was released by Crossroads’ Organic Records in 2015.\nIf you like cornbread & hush puppies\, you’re gonna love the Malpass Brothers.  If you like sweet tea\, barbecue & collards\, you’re gonna love the Malpass Brothers.  If you like clean fresh air over a freshly-plowed field\, if you like a great big ol’ corn puddin’ at a homecoming covered dish\, you’re gonna love the Malpass Brothers.  That’s a promise.  (And you don’t lie about a covered dish supper.)\nThis is the real deal\, folks. There is no pretense. This is music steeped in the legacy of the Louvin Brothers\, Johnny Cash\, Marty Robbins\, Hank Williams\, Sr. & others.  Count on classic\, real country. Count on new Malpass tunes. Count on a couple of old-time traditional gospels. Count on their probably coming down into the house at intermission and asking what you’d like to hear.  Count on giggles and ribbing between brothers\, along with daddy on the bass\, who’s bound to be thinking\, “What the hell are they doing now?” Count on some big\, high man hair\, and maybe an Elvis twitch or two. Count on lines at the CD table … and count on logging on to see where they’ll be next.\nWebsite: https://themalpassbrothers.com/ \nABOUT THE PRICE SISTERS\nThe Price Sisters began singing together around the age of three and learned harmony while singing along with their parents at home and family gatherings. Around nine years of age\, they began taking instrument lessons\, and were soon performing locally and regionally as The Price Family.\nLauren\, the older twin by five minutes\, primarily sings the harmony vocals. She recalls being influenced by the harmony singing of The Whites and trying to mimic that vocal sound\, even at a young age. She has developed her skills on the mandolin\, studying in-depth the style of the Father of Bluegrass Music\, Bill Monroe. While she began mandolin lessons at an early age\, it wasn’t until she attended a music workshop at 15\, a week-long Monroe-style mandolin class with Mike Compton\, that she began to put more effort into her musical abilities. She realized that if she were serious about playing bluegrass\, she wanted to start where it all began. While she has matured and progressed in the Monroe-style\, she also wants to develop her own sound on the mandolin. As such\, she continues to study old-time and traditional tunes as well as the styles of mandolin masters of old\, and is enjoying lessons from mandolin great\, Bobby Osborne.\nLeanna is the band’s main lead vocalist and fiddler\, but she and Lauren also trade lead and harmony duties as needed for a particular song. Leanna cites present-day vocalists Alison Krauss\, Gillian Welch and Ginny Hawker as being influences in her vocal style\, yet she also notes the emotion and feeling with which Monroe sang as impacting her technique as well.  Leanna\, too\, cites the workshop she and Lauren attended as having a great impact on her desire to pursue the original\, traditional bluegrass music. While listening to Monroe’s music\, Leanna especially concentrated on Kenny Baker’s fiddling\, stating that Kenny is probably her biggest influence now. She feels he always knew exactly what to play and when\, and she simply just likes his style and how he played. Leanna also has had the opportunity to learn directly from a former Bluegrass Boy\, Byron Berline\, and particularly enjoys his smooth style. She also appreciates the energetic\, yet traditional style of Jason Carter.\nThe Price Sisters have performed at festivals and events from Michigan to Georgia\, and Colorado to Maine. A few of their appearances have included Bill Monroe’s ‘Bean Blossom Festival\,’ and RFD-TV’s ‘Cumberland Highlanders Show.’ They have performed for live radio broadcasts on the legendary ‘Wheeling Jamboree\,’ and Ohio University’s WOUB ‘Showcase Showdown\,’ and have been guest performers on the ‘Cumberland Mountain Music Show.’ They have opened for numerous bands including IBMA female vocalist of the year\, Dale Ann Bradley\, and The Kenny and Amanda Smith Band\, and have also been on-stage guest performers with various bands including ‘The Lost and Found\,’ ‘The Spinney Brothers\,’ and ‘David Davis and the Warrior River Boys.’ They have also made numerous appearances at many venues in the eastern Kentucky area. With their college band\, the Mountain Music Ambassadors\, they have participated in live performances for PBS’s ‘Song of the Mountains\,’ ‘WoodSongs Old-Time Radio Hour\,’ WKYT-TV\, Lexington\, Kentucky\, and recently returned from a 10 day tour of the Peoples Republic of China. While they continue to travel and perform the bluegrass music they both love\, Lauren and Leanna are also currently pursuing degrees in music\, with concentration in traditional and bluegrass music\, at Morehead State University\, Morehead\, Kentucky.\nWebsite: https://thepricesisters.com/

SUMMARY:Tanya Tucker Concert
DESCRIPTION: \nIn 1974\, Rolling Stone ran a cover story on Tanya Tucker with the headline that said “You’re Gonna Hear From Me.” Truer words have never been spoken. For four decades\, her sultry voice and vivacious stage presence has helped to make her one of the most admired and respected female vocalists in the Country Music genre.\nAnd\, the best is yet to come for this future Country Music Hall of Fame member. With a new album forthcoming\, the power house vocalist is set to remind listeners just why artists such as Miranda Lambert and Gretchen Wilson consider her to be one of their biggest influences. She’s lived a life full of love and heartbreak\, and bounced back no matter the odds. In the crazy world of the music business\, Tanya Tucker defines the word “legend\,” but also “survivor.”

Her eclectic influences span decades\, drawing heavily on old time music (Mississippi Sheiks\, Son House\, Jimmie Rodgers\, Olla Belle Reed\, Carter Family)\, inspired by strong R&B and country music vocalists from the ’50s-’70s (Big Mama Thornton\, Sister Rosetta Tharpe\, Mahalia Jackson\, Dolly Parton\, Patsy Cline\, Loretta Lynn) and influenced by contemporary artists with powerful vocal integrity (Adele\, Florence and the Machine\, Megan Jean and the KFB\, Janelle Monae).\nRecent tours in Scotland and the U.K. have seen Amythyst performing for audiences at the Americana Music Association UK Showcase\, the Southern Fried Festival\, Cambridge Folk Festival\, the Edinburgh Jazz Festival\, and SummerTyne Americana Festival. She is a crowd favorite at Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion in the U.S.\, has performed at the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts\, and the Smithsonian Folk Life Festival. Provocative and coolly fierce\, Amythyst Kiah’s ability to cross the boundaries of blues and old-time through reinterpretation is groundbreaking and simply unforgettable.\nAbout Tyler Hughes & Sam Gleaves\nTyler Hughes & Sam Gleaves are an old-time country music duo\, performing songs old and new with close harmony singing and accompaniment on clawhammer banjo\, guitar\, fiddle and autoharp.\nTyler and Sam’s programs feature fiddle and banjo hoedowns\, close mountain harmonies\, stories of all kinds\, Carter Family-inspired autoharp and guitar\, country gospel songs\, lonesome ballads & flatfoot dancing.\nIn 2015\, Tyler and Sam performed on West Virginia Public Radio’s Mountain Stage\, Lexington\, Kentucky’s Red Barn Radio\, broadcast on Kentucky Educational Television\, and at many other venues throughout the Appalachian region.\nAbout Joy Blair\nJoy Blair is a singer/songwriter from East Tennessee deeply inspired by country music and the Appalachian Mountain region she calls home. Her honest and uniquely crafted lyrics weave rural imagery with themes of love\, family\, loss\, and life in emotive and compelling songwriting.\nAs a student of East Tennessee State University’s Bluegrass\, Old Time\, and Country Music program\, she performed with Old Time and Bluegrass bands at The Down Home\, in Johnson City\, Tennessee\, The Paramount Theatre in Bristol\, Tennessee\, The Pickin’ Porch in Bristol\, TN/VA\, and other venues from Johnson City to Atlanta\, Georgia.\nSince graduating from ETSU in May 2014\, Joy has delved even deeper into songwriting and roots music. She has performed at the new Birthplace of Country Music Museum in Bristol\, TN/VA with The Palace Pickers\, at The Down Home in Johnson City\, TN with Kalia Yeagle and Greg Fields\, and Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion.

SUMMARY:Exchange Place Spring Garden Fair
DESCRIPTION:We may have had a milder-than-usual winter\, but residents of Northeast Tennessee know that spring does not officially arrive until we can begin to look forward to the annual Spring Garden Fair at Exchange Place Living History Farm. So put on your best plantin’ duds\, because the oldest garden fair in our region — this will be its 33rd consecutive year! — will be held on Saturday\, April 29\, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.\, and Sunday\, April 30\, from noon until 5 p.m.\, at the 1850s farmstead located at 4812 Orebank Road in Kingsport.\nA true celebration of heritage farming and heirloom gardening\, the Spring Garden Fair is a favorite of area gardeners\, from novice to expert\, with offerings that include rare and hard-to-find plants as well as tried-and-true favorites. Thousands of plants will be for sale — perennials\, annuals\, trees and shrubs — with the emphasis on herbs\, native and heirloom plants including a wide variety of heirloom tomatoes. Folk and yard artisans will be selling their wares as well.\nThis year the festival is adding a very special gardening event. The UT Extension Master Gardener Class will sponsor the Back-Porch Garden Sale\, inside the Roseland building\, where folks will be able to find all kinds of new and used garden items for sale\, including pots\, hypertufa containers\, plants\, gardening magazines\, books and much more. Need advice to make your yard look beautiful? The Master Gardeners will be on hand at their Plant Clinic/Information table to answer your questions. Experts will offer information about the Perennial Plant of the Year\, Asciepias tuberosa\, more commonly known as the Butterfly Weed. And there will also be projects and activities on the Back Porch for children to make and take.\nThroughout the weekend\, craftspeople and volunteers will demonstrate springtime activities typically found on a nineteenth-century farm. Over by the Roseland-side barn\, the Overmountain Weavers Guild continues their long tradition of “Sheep to Shawl\,” where they card (clean\, separate and straighten) our sheep’s wool\, spin it into yarn and weave the yarn into cloth — all within hours. This year\, the weavers plan to make a scarf on Saturday\, while the popular shearing of the sheep will take place on Saturday at 1:00 pm and Sunday at 1:30 p.m.\nAcross the road on the historic farm side of Exchange Place\, the hearth kitchen will be filled with wonderful aromas as the Eden’s Ridge Hearth Cookery Society churns butter on Saturday\, and then prepares spring tansies (puddings) and seasonal vegetables on Sunday. Our Junior Apprentices\, meanwhile\, will be in the garden offering insights into our heirloom plants. The blacksmith’s shop will be active all weekend as Will Vogt from Graysburg Forge and Catherine Shook\, a recent graduate of the John C. Campbell Folk School\, will demonstrate the importance of a blacksmith on an antebellum farm.\nA wide variety of hands-on children’s activities will be found all around the farmstead\, and your young’uns will certainly want to say hello to our resident animals\, including Delilah (our cow)\, Jenny (our donkey)\, and our three horses\, plus our sheep and Guinea hogs.\nTwo other popular features of the Garden Fair will be back again. Retired World Champion Whimmy Diddler Will Hines of Greeneville will be on hand to direct the 8th Annual Edens Ridge Whimmy Diddle Competition at 3 p.m. on Sunday. Open to all ages\, Mr. Hines and others will be under the main tent\, just a few yards away from the Preston House\, starting at 2 p.m.\, to offer valuable pointers and practice time prior to the contest\, in which the winners will receive trophies made by local woodworker Gary Albertson. Meanwhile\, on Saturday\, Linda Doan will be leading a Maypole decoration and dance. Brought to this country by our European ancestors\, it is a traditional and colorful celebration of spring.\nMusic fills the air during the Spring Garden Fair. A smorgasbord of local talent is scheduled to perform throughout the weekend; a complete schedule is listed below. (Please note\, however\, that it is always subject to last-minute changes.) And don’t worry\, if you get hungry or thirsty\, baked goods\, lunch\, drinks and snacks (including the ever-popular kettle corn!) will be available.\nThe Spring Garden Fair strives to be as environmentally friendly as possible with recycling\, composting\, and re-using. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own plant carriers and to bring used nursery pots for recycling/reusing. To help gardeners reduce runoff and save water\, Rain Barrel Kits will be available once again for $40 (check or cash)\, as long as supplies last. The 55-gallon food-grade plastic barrels (which can easily be painted) are already fully assembled and ready to go home with you and begin collecting rainwater.\nAdmission is $3 for adults and is free for children under the age of 12. Proceeds from the event helps keep our animals fed and with the restoration and upkeep of the site\, which is proudly listed on the National Register of Historic Places.\nExchange Place is a non-profit\, volunteer-run living history farm\, educational facility and regional attraction that seeks to preserve\, protect\, interpret\, and manage the history\, heritage\, and artifacts pertaining to mid-19th century farm life in Northeast Tennessee. For more information\, please call 423-288-6071\, or visit our website: www.exchangeplace.info.\nMUSIC SCHEDULE\nSATURDAY\, APRIL 29 TIMES SUNDAY\, APRIL 30\nKINGSPORT COMMUNITY BAND 10 – 11 a.m. {gates open today at noon}\nBALL SISTERS BAND 11 am – 12 noon {gates open today at noon}\nTHE HONEYCUTTS 12 noon – 1 p.m. RENAISSANCE STRINGS\nTENNESSEE BORDER 1 – 2 p.m. STRAWBERRY JAM\nAPPALACHIAN EXPRESS CHORUS and SWEET ADELINESS 2 – 3 p.m. WHIMMY DIDDLE SIGN-UP AND PRACTICE\nCHARLOTTE AND ART ELLIS 3 – 4 p.m. WHIMMY DIDDLE COMPETITION\nSTATE STREET STRING BAND 4 – 5 p.m.

SUMMARY:Radio Bristol Premieres: Ed Snodderly
DESCRIPTION:Radio Bristol focuses on new recordings and projects from nationally recognized artists before a live audience in the Performance Theater at the Birthplace of Country Music Museum. On Friday\, May 5\, Radio Bristol is proud to feature new music from multi-talented singer-songwriter\, actor\, and co-founder of the famed Down Home listening room\, Ed Snodderly. Ed will be performing music from his latest release Record Shop.\nListeners may be part of the live\, studio audience or listen online at ListenRadioBristol.org.\n \nABOUT ED SNODDERLY\nThe Tennessee native looks a bit like Doc from Back to the Future with shorter hair and Buddy Holly glasses. His voice is the sonic equivalent of an old denim shirt\, creased and worn and reassuring. While “folk” doesn’t quite capture Snodderly’s essence—he is more singer-songwriter steeped in country and bluegrass—he is nevertheless finely tuned to the eccentricities of traditional music. His writing style is unique.\nThe songs are original\, yet familiar. His guitar playing holds those ancestral rhythms. He makes primitive banjo and drums sound like the most obvious combination in the world. Whatever you want to call him—Alt-Country Singer? Old-Time Musician? Folkie?—Ed Snodderly is proof that Southern music\, with all its old peculiarities\, is alive and kicking. Several of his songs have been recorded by musicians such as Sam Bush\, Missy Raines\, Jerry Douglas and John Cowan. The Country Music Hall Of Fame Museum honored him by inscribing a verse of his song\, “The Diamond Stream\,” upon the wall in the Hall Of Honor.
