SUMMARY:Chubby Checker
DESCRIPTION:Orchestra: $40 | Mezzanine: $35 | Balcony: $30 \nIn 1959\, Chubby Checker rose to national prominence with his debut record\, The Class. Chubby’s smash hit\, “The Twist\,” quickly rose to #1 on the Billboard Pop chart and the popular dance that accompanies the song was made famous by Checker with his performance on American Bandstand in 1960. The concept of “dancing apart to the beat” was born and endless songs incorporating “The Twist” into its name sprang up such as “Peppermint Twist\,” “Twist and Shout” and “Twistin’ the Night Away.” At the forefront was Chubby with “The Fly\,” “The Pony” and “The Hucklebuck.” \nThe next few years were prolific for Chubby as hit followed hit. In 1961\, Chubby recorded the #1 hit “Pony Time” which stayed on the charts for 16 weeks. In between recording and touring\, Chubby took time to add feature films to his portfolio with the releases of “Don’t Knock the Twist” and “Twist Around the Clock.” \nChubby Checker remains in the spotlight with his high-energy performances that continue to bring the nostalgia of time gone by to his many fans.

SUMMARY:Paramount Bristol: John Andersen
DESCRIPTION:AN EVENING WITH JOHN ANDERSON – ACOUSTIC – WITH ELVIE SHANE\n\n\nWEBSITE\n\n\nTo accommodate an unforeseen change in his touring schedule\, John Andersons September 7th appearance at Paramount Bristol is rescheduled to Sunday\, November 4th\, at 7PM. Doors will open at 6PM. \nAward-winning singer-songwriter John Anderson has one of the most instantly recognizable voices in the history of country music. Anderson notched his first major hit in 1980 with Billy Jo Shaver’s “I’m Just an Old Chunk of Coal (But I’m Gonna Be a Diamond Someday).” Two years later came the instant hit “Swingin’” and the classic “Wild and Blue.” A stream of hits followed\, including “She Just Started Liking Cheatin’ Songs\,” “Your Lying Blue Eyes\,” “Seminole Wind\,” “Straight Tequila Night\,” and “Money in the Bank.” Though he would never compare himself to his heroes\, the fact is\, John Anderson is now the standard-bearer for traditional country music\, of the 100 Proof variety. \nAnderson’s Country Music Hall of Fame-worthy career has produced 23 albums\, more than 60 Billboard singles (20 reaching the Top 10)\, and a wealth of industry awards. His latest album\, Goldmine\, released 40 years after his debut hit\, proves that there’s still a lot of gold in John Anderson. Rolling Stone Magazine recognized Goldmine as one of its “40 Best Country Albums of 2015\,” an honor aspired to by young artists the world over. Anderson has made his home in Smithville\, TN\, for more than 30 years. \nThe opening act is Elvie Shane\, “gospel-born and southern rock bred\, a little country blues mixed with a whole lot of soul.” If his name rings a bell\, you might have seen Elvie as a featured contestant in the final season of American Idol where his perfect pitch and deep vocals wowed the judges. \n\n\nVenue Information:\nParamount Bristol\n518 State Street\nBristol\, TN\, 37620\nhttps://www.paramountbristol.org

SUMMARY:THE BEACH BOYS
DESCRIPTION:Orchestra: $85 | Mezzanine: $75 | Balcony: $65 \nA digital download of Mike Love’s new album\, Unleash the Love\, is included with ticket purchase. More info available @ NPACgreeneville.com. \nYou can capsulize most pop music acts by reciting how many hits they’ve had and how many millions of albums they’ve sold. But these conventional measurements fall short when you’re assessing the impact of The Beach Boys. This band has birthed a torrent of hit singles and sold albums by the tens of millions. But its greater significance lies in the fact that The Beach Boys’ songs have forever changed the musical landscape\, profoundly influencing countless performing artists to follow. \nThe Beach Boys are led by Mike Love and Bruce Johnston\, who along with Jeffrey Foskett\, Christian Love\, Tim Bonhomme\, John Cowsill\, Keith Hubacher\, and Scott Totten continue the legacy of the iconic American band. The Beach Boys have continued to create and perform with the same bold imagination and style that marked their explosive debut over 50 years ago. They found through their music the key to unfading youth — and made copies for everyone. To these guys\, the beach isn’t just a place where the surf comes to play — it’s where life is renewed and made whole again.

SUMMARY:Paramount Bristol: Steve Earle & The Dukes
DESCRIPTION:STEVE EARLE & THE DUKES\nThree-time Grammy Award recipient and 11-time Grammy nominee Steve Earle is a cornerstone artist of Americana music. One of the most acclaimed singer-songwriters of his generation; he has released 20 albums\, a number of them with his longtime band the Dukes. Earle and the Dukes are on tour celebrating the 30th anniversary of Copperhead Road\, Earle’s third album\, which was released to widespread acclaim in 1998. Copperhead Road is called Earle’s first “rock album” because it introduces country music’s storytelling and three-chord structures to rockabilly and contemporary rock music. Earle himself described it as “heavy-metal bluegrass.” It more than lives up to that description\, hitting a just-right synthesis of acoustic strumming and electric guitar power chords (not to mention the occasional bagpipe). In addition to performing Copperhead Road in its entirety\, Earl includes tunes from his 2017 release “So You Wanna Be An Outlaw” which explores his country songwriting roots and includes collaborations with Willie Nelson\, Johnny Bush and Miranda Lambert. \nThe Mastersons\, husband and wife duo of Chris Masterson (guitar and vocals) and Eleanor Whitmore (violin and vocals)\, have been integral members of Steve Earle’s band for many years and are opening for Earle on this tour. They have released three albums filled with irresistible melodies\, buoyant harmonies and stellar songwriting. \n\n\nVenue Information:\nParamount Bristol\n518 State Street\nBristol\, TN\, 37620\nhttps://www.paramountbristol.org/

In addition to performing Copperhead Road in its entirety\, Earl includes tunes from his 2017 release “So You Wanna Be An Outlaw” which explores his country songwriting roots and includes collaborations with Willie Nelson\, Johnny Bush and Miranda Lambert.\nThe Mastersons\, husband and wife duo of Chris Masterson (guitar and vocals) and Eleanor Whitmore (violin and vocals)\, have been integral members of Steve Earle’s band for many years and are opening for Earle on this tour. They have released three albums filled with irresistible melodies\, buoyant harmonies and stellar songwriting.

DESCRIPTION:ROGER MCGUINN AND CHRIS HILLMAN CELEBRATE 50 YEARS OFSweetheart of the Rodeowith Special Guest Marty Stuart & His Fabulous SuperlativesDECEMBER 1STTICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\nROGER MCGUINN AND CHRIS HILLMAN CELEBRATE 50 YEARS OF Sweetheart of the Rodeo with Special Guest Marty Stuart & His Fabulous Superlatives\n$82-127 plus applicable taxes and fees / Members save $5 per ticket \n\nTICKETS Sat\, December 1\, 2018 @ Paramount Bristol Doors: 7:00 pm / Show: 8:00 pm\n\nThe Byrds co-founders Roger McGuinn and Chris Hillman are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the band’s pioneering album “Sweetheart of the Rodeo” on a national tour that is coming to The Paramount! Country all-star Marty Stuart and his amazing band join McGuinn and Hillman onstage\, where they will perform songs and tell the stories behind the 1968 LP\, one of the milestones in American Music. After kicking off in Los Angeles\, the tour has a short run and is selling out much larger venues – from New York’s Town Hall to Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. Don’t miss out on this once-in-a-lifetime event! \nWith one mighty swing of the axe\, The Byrds changed not only the face of rock ’n’ roll but country music\, as well\, with their sixth album\, 1968’s Sweetheart of the Rodeo. Featuring a repertoire of country classics by the Louvin Brothers (“The Christian Life”) and Merle Haggard (“Life in Prison”)\, as well as Depression-era ballads (Woody Guthrie’s “Pretty Boy Floyd”) and honky tonk weepers cut by George Jones (“You’re Still On My Mind”) as well as Dylan tracks “You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere” and “Nothing Was Delivered\,” Sweetheart marks the first time an established rock band played authentic country music\, and subsequently became the group’s most influential release. The album has proved to be a landmark\, serving not only as a blueprint for Hillman’s the Flying Burrito Brothers\, but also for the entire seminal 1970s Los Angeles country rock movement. The album was also influential on the outlaw country and new traditionalist movements\, as well as the so-called alternative country genre of the 1990s and 2000s. \n“As close to a country masterpiece as a rock act could ever make…Sweetheart wasn’t the first country-rock album\, but with its gorgeous three-way harmonies and sweet pedal steel\, it remains the best” – David Cantwell

It is clear that great things are coming for this talented singer and harmonica player” ~ Living Blues Magazine\nRichmond\, Virginia native Andrew Alli is among the Virginia artists chosen to represent the Birthplace of Country Music at The Long Road: A Festival of Country\, Americana & Roots in the U.K. this summer. Alli also amazed audiences at Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion in September. \nHe took up music relatively later in life at the age of 20. After being inspired by a busker playing harmonica on the street one day\, he hit the local music store and a harmonica of his own. From that point on\, Andrew committed himself to learning the history of the instrument. He very soon fell in love with the blues and began studying all of the harmonica greats including Big Walter Horton\, Little Walter\, Sonny Boy Williamson\, Junior wells\, and more. \nAlli has developed his own unique style of playing\, while still paying his respects to his biggest influences from the past. Throughout the years he has toured with dozens of musicians both domestically and abroad. Currently he leads the band “Andrew Alli and the Mainline” with Ivan Appelrouth on guitar\, Chaz Hibbler on drums\, and Ken Kellner on bass. Andrew plays in a duo with local musician Josh Small and Georgia based musician Jontavious Willis.

She started performing at age four\, wrote her first song at age five\, recording two albums by the time she turned seven. \nA “mind-bogglingly” talented singer\, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist\, EmiSunshine is “one of the 10 new country artists you need to know” according to Rolling Stone Magazine. \nThis teenage musical Phenom writes “intense Appalachian folk tunes in the Carter Family tradition and sings them with wisdom and ferocity.” Influenced by country music trendsetters Bessie Smith\, June Carter\, Loretta Lynn and Hank Williams and The Louvin Brothers\, EmiSunshine is a throwback to an earlier era of country music. Her charismatic stage presence\, honest lyrics and gutsy voice evoke comparisons to “a modern-day Janis Joplin.”
