SUMMARY:January Jams Presents: The Del McCoury Band
DESCRIPTION:If You Like: Ricky Skaggs\, Bill Monroe\, Ralph Stanley\, Tony Rice\nA True American icon and the most awarded band in the history of bluegrass.\nFor more than fifty years\,Del McCoury’s music has defined authenticity for hard core bluegrass fans as well as a growing number of fans among those only vaguely familiar with the genre.McCoury is something special\, a living link to the days when bluegrass was made only in hillbilly honkytonks\, schoolhouse shows and on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry\, yet also a commandingly vital presence today\, from prime time and late night talk show TV to music festivals where audiences number in the hundreds of thousands.\nBorn in York County\, PA seventy five years ago\,Del McCoury would once have seemed an unlikely candidate for legendary status. Bitten hard by the bluegrass bug when he heard Earl Scruggs’ banjo in the early ’50s.McCoury became a banjo picker himself\, working in the rough but lively Baltimore and D.C. bar scene into the early 1960s. He got his first taste of the limelight when he joined Bill Monroe’s Blue Grass Boys in early 1963; the Father of Bluegrass moved McCoury from the banjo to guitar\, made him his lead singer\, and gave him a lifetime’s worth of bluegrass tutelage direct from the source. Flash-forward to 1990s and the Del McCoury Band is on top of the bluegrass world\, along the way giving birth to a more startling phenomenon: the emergence of the group onto the larger musical scene as a unique torchbearer for the entire sweep of bluegrass and its history. For it turned out that the unmistakable authenticity of McCoury’s music-along with his good-natured willingness to keep alert for new sounds and new opportunities-had bred fans in some unlikely places. That bluegrass-bred stars like Gill and Alison Krauss (who first met Del at a bluegrass festival when she filled in for a missing fiddler of his) would sing his praises wasn’t surprising\, but who would have expected country-rock icons like Steve Earle or jam bands like the supremely popular Phish to have joined in the chorus? By the second half of the ’90s\, the acclaim-and Del’s open-mindedness-put McCourys in onstage jams with Phish and on the road and in the studio with Earle\, bringing the Del McCoury Band’s fierce musicianship and its leader’s instantaneous\, easygoing connection with listeners to new arenas. The group appeared on prime time television and began an ongoing series of visits to popular late night TV talk shows\, toured rock clubs and college campuses\, and found itself welcome at country and even jazz-oriented music festivals and venues.\nYet while reaching out to almost unimaginable audiences\,Del’s music retains its signature characteristics. The fifth decade of that half-century of music making has been filled with new and ongoing triumphs. The Del McCoury Band has shown unprecedented stability\, with but a single change in membership in twenty years; nine IBMA Entertainer of the Year trophies\, their namesake earned membership in the cast of the legendary Grand Ole Opry in 2003\, and the Band earned their first Best Bluegrass Album Grammy award two years later followed by their second Grammy win in 2014 (to go along with double digit nominations); they traveled with the groundbreaking post-O Brother “Down From The Mountain” tour\, performed and recorded (on his Grammy-winning These Days) with Gill and with country star Dierks Bentley; they are a regular at the spectacular Bonnaroo Music Festival\, and Del’s namesake Festival\, DelFest has quickly become one of the premier string band events in the country showcasing acts ranging from bluegrass legend Bobby Osborne to Phish’s frontman Trey Anastasio.\nDel might be 76\, but he’s singing better than ever and showing no signs of slowing down. \nOpening in Support: Bill & The Belles\nWith striking three-part harmonies and masterful instrumentation\, Bill and the Belles skillfully breathe new life into the sounds of early country music. At the foothills of the Blue Ridge and the forefront of old time music\, Bill and the Belles (Johnson City\, Tennessee) continue to further the music traditions of their region. From sentimental Southern ballads to the popular songs of Tin Pan Alley to regional fiddle breakdowns\, a Bill and the Belles show is a celebration of the diversity country music once represented.\nLifelong musicians Kris Truelsen\, Grace Van’t Hof\, Kalia Yeagle\, and Karl Zerfas bring to the stage an uplifting show unlike any other\, full of humor\, high spirits\, and all-around revelry. It’s clear this group shares a rare musical connection and deep love for the music\, and their excitement is contagious. Bill and the Belles are hitting the road with fervor\, eager to share their music with new audiences. They continue to play alongside America’s top country and roots music artists as the resident band for the historic radio program Farm and Fun Time presented by Radio Bristol and the Birthplace of Country Music.\n“Bill and the Belles is committed to helping early country music remain appreciated — not just replicated.” — Rolling Stone\n“They can flat out sing. Early country music\, spot-on harmonies and spectacular timing make this one of the best groups to come down the pike in a while. ” -Asheville Citizen Times\n“A 78 RPM shellac record come to life. What a wonderful and authentically American sound… ” — Craig Havighurst\, Music City Roots\nTime – Doors Open at 7:15 PM Show Starts at 8:00 PM

SUMMARY:January Jams Presents: John Cowan w/Darin & Brooke Aldridge
DESCRIPTION:If You Like: Sam Bush\, Bela Fleck\, John Prine\, Jim Lauderdale\, Darrell Scott\nJohn Cowan\, also known as the “Voice of Newgrass\,” has been singing his heart out for thirty-five years\, and his soaring vocals have only improved with time. A true innovator\, John applies his powerful pipes to genres from country\, bluegrass\, and gospel to soul\, jazz\, and rock-and-roll – often within the space of a single concert. His ability to move fluidly through multiple styles\, and carry mesmerized audiences on the journey with him\, has set him apart as one of the most loved and admired vocal artists of his generation\, not just by fans and critics but among fellow musicians as well.\nCowan’s rise to fame began in 1974 when he auditioned as the bassist for the then up-and-coming New Grass Revival. Needless to say\, John was offered the gig\, but it wasn’t until he’d accepted the job that the shy 22-year-old casually mentioned that he could sing. With his distinctive\, rock-tinged tenor vocal and heart-thumping electric bass\, John\, along with fellow New Grass Revival band mates Sam Bush\, Courtney Johnson\, and Curtis Burch\, and later Bela Fleck and Pat Flynn\, introduced a new generation of music fans to an explosive\, experimental and ultimately\, eponymous brand of bluegrass. The “newgrass” sound spawned popular jam bands such as Leftover Salmon and Yonder Mountain String Band in addition to shaping the sensibilities of country megastars Garth Brooks\, the Dixie Chicks\, the Zac Brown Band\, and Darius Rucker.\nAfter New Grass Revival disbanded in 1990\, John went on to record a series of critically acclaimed solo albums in addition to laying down guest bass and vocal parts on some 120 recordings for artists including Steve Earle\, Bela Fleck\, Alison Krauss\, and John Prine. A few years later\, John teamed up with Rusty Young of Poco\, Bill Lloyd of Foster & Lloyd\, and Pat Simmons of the Doobie Brothers in The Sky Kings\, a widely successful country rock band. John’s newfound alliance with Pat Simmons gained him the role of bassist for the Doobie Brothers from 1992 through 1995\, as well as a songwriting credit for “Can’t Stand to Lose” on the Doobie Brothers 2000 release Sibling Rivalry. \nJoined by Darin & Brooke Aldridge\nHusband and wife duo Darin & Brooke Aldridge draw on the traditions of their native North Carolina\, the savvy of a young\, gifted band and their own dedication to ingenuity to create the most mature release of their career with their latest release\, Flying.\nThe duo has placed at the top of the charts on Americana/Roots\, SiriusXM\, Bluegrass and Gospel charts. They have received multiple nominations from the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America (SPGBMA) and Inspirational Country Music (ICM). The music video “Wildflower” is being featured on CMT and CMT Edge and GAC. Their TV appearances include PBS\, Great American Gospel\, The Bluegrass Road\, Presley’s Country Jubilee\, RFD-TV\, Rural-TV\, Daystar Network\, Blue Highways TV\, Song of the Mountains and Music City Roots.\nThis special pairing is sure to be a one-of-a kind show at Gilliam Stage at Barter Theatre\, don’t miss it! \nOpening Act: Zoe & Cloyd\nZoe & Cloyd spring from deep roots in American music. Founding members of the acclaimed Americana trio\, Red June and long-time veterans of the Asheville\, NC music scene\, Natalya Zoe Weinstein and John Cloyd Miller shifted gears to their duet project after the birth of their daughter in early 2015. Their debut recording\, Equinox\, released in April 2015\, features original and traditional repertoire spanning bluegrass\, old-time and folk and showcases the elegant simplicity of two instruments and two voices. The album met with high acclaim in publications such as No Depression and Bluegrass Unlimited\, among others. Their banner year continued with a 1st place win at the Duo Contest at the prestigious FreshGrass Festival in North Adams\, Massachusetts.\nJohn Cloyd Miller’s foundation in traditional bluegrass and old-time music coupled with his modern sensibility combine to make him a natural musician and performer. A twelfth generation North Carolina native and the grandson of pioneering bluegrass fiddler and NC Folk Heritage Award winner Jim Shumate\, his Appalachian roots run deep. John is well known for his haunting mountain voice as well as his instrumental prowess and award-winning songwriting. He is a 1st place winner of the prestigious Chris Austin Songwriting Contest and a recipient of an Artist Fellowship for songwriting by the North Carolina Arts Council.\nNatalya Zoe Weinstein also comes from a musical family: her father is master jazz pianist and her grandfather was a professional klezmer musician. She is an accomplished fiddler in a variety of styles as well as an inspiring singer and songwriter. While trained classically in her home state of Massachusetts\, she has spent many years fine-tuning her bluegrass and old-time fiddling with some of the country’s top traditional musicians. Now a mentor to many young players\, Natalya is a sought after instructor and is in high demand as a teacher and session musician.\nTime – Doors Open at 7:15 PM Show Starts at 8:00 PM

SUMMARY:January Jams Presents: The Infamous Stringdusters: The Laws of Gravity Tour with special guest Billy Strings
DESCRIPTION:If You Like: Yonder Mountain String Band\, Greensky Bluegrass\, Leftover Salmon\, Steep Canyon Rangers\, Railroad Earth\nAt the helm of today’s bluegrass advancement stands The Infamous Stringdusters. Composed of Andy Hall (dobro)\, Andy Falco (guitar)\, Chris Pandolfi (banjo)\, Jeremy Garrett (fiddle)\, and Travis Book (upright bass)\, this acoustic quintet combines a collective skillset seldom rivaled\, but often reveled.\nThe Stringdusters’ resume includes six studio albums\, four International Bluegrass Music Association awards\, and a Grammy nomination\, but their true brilliance lies in their passion for live performance. Intricate harmonies\, cleverly composed arrangements and their profound commitment to presentation induces traditionalists and newcomers to stomp their feet on common ground.\nWith a nod to the past and a firm foot down on the gas toward the future\, the ‘Dusters “…don’t leave bluegrass behind; they’re stretching it from within.” – New York Times \nSpecial Guest Billy Strings\n“Imagine taking a hardcore heavy metal band like Pantera and cramming all that energy into the body of a 23-year-old bluegrass guitarist. That’s Billy Strings. He tears up the stage during his set\, grimacing\, growling\, head-banging and tearing the holy sh*t out of a set of super-charged Americana. Kid can pick! DAMN can he pick! It’s acoustic music with a punk edge and a lot of youthful enthusiasm and\, oh man\, that PICKING! Strings covers a wide variety of classic tunes and songs in his show\, from a slow-burning cover of ‘Wild Bill Jones’to a raw cover of ‘Cocaine Blues’or picking delights like ‘Red Haired Boy’and ‘Soldier’s Joy.’But the standout track is the opening song\, ‘Dust in a Baggie\,’ a cleverly written mountain song about meth that manages to take a very current and destructive issue and translate it into the bluegrass vernacular. It’s a tour-de-force\, written by Strings himself\, and is the moment you realize just how far this kid’s gonna go.” — D.L. “THE BLUEGRASS SITUATION”\nTime – Doors Open at 7:15 PM Show Starts at 8:00 PM

SUMMARY:January Jams Presents: Justin Townes Earle
DESCRIPTION:If You Like: Jason Isbell\, Townes Van Zandt\, Dave Rawlings Machine\, Hayes Carll\, John Prine\, Steve Earle\nFresh off the success of his recently released album\, Single Mothers\, Justin Townes Earle announced the companion album Absent Fathers to be released January 13\, 2015. Also comprised of 10 tracks\, Absent Fathers was recorded alongside Single Mothers as a double album\, but as Justin began to sequence it\, he felt each half needed to make its own statement and they took on their own identities.\nIn describing Single Mothers\, NPR describes the album as “…mov[ing] between evocative portraits of place set in knotty emotional frames\, prickly confessions of destructive patterns\, and melancholic eloquence in the wake of short-lived love affairs.” The Sun UK hailed the album\, noting “Justin’s songcraft is fast maturing and this is a concise exercise in laying emotions bare\,” while No Depression summed up Justin’s career by saying ” No longer needing to beg for attention\, he’s built a career that’s brought him critical acclaim and a well-deserved reputation for consistent artistic integrity.”\nOnce compared to a man who wears many suits\, in thirty-two short years Justin Townes Earle has experienced more than most\, both personally and professionally. Between releasing four full-length-critically-acclaimed albums\, constant touring\, multiple stints in rehab\, a new found sobriety\, being born Steve Earle’s son\, amicable and not-so-amicable break-ups with record labels\, and facing the trials and tribulations of everyday life\, it’s safe to say JTE has quite the story to tell. His fifth album (and first ever on Vagrant Records) serves as the perfect platform for such narrations.\nAs a recently married\, sober man JTE writes from a point of maturity and content we’ve not seen before on past records. “One day I just realized it’s not cool to die young\, and it’s even less cool to die after 30\,” Justin states as he reflects on a life past and his newly found clarity. What he’s created is material that’s raw\, honest and personal in a way he hasn’t touched upon since his debut EP\, Yuma.\nTime – Doors Open at 7:15 PM Show Starts at 8:00 PM\nTickets are $25 or purchase tickets for Justin Townes Earle and A.J. Croce on January 6th for just $45.\nOpening Act: If Birds Could Fly

SUMMARY:January Jams Presents: Mandolin Orange
DESCRIPTION:If You Like: Elephant Revival\, The Punch Brothers\, everybodyfields\, Jill Andrews\, The Stray Birds\nLean in to Mandolin Orange’s new album\, “Blindfaller\,” and it’s bound to happen. You’ll suddenly pick up on the power and devastation lurking in its quietude\, the doom hiding beneath its unvarnished beauty. You’ll hear the way it magnifies the intimacy at the heart of the North Carolina duo’s music\, as if they created their own musical language as they recorded it.\nDue Sept. 30 on Yep Roc Records\, “Blindfaller” builds on the acclaim of Mandolin Orange’s breakthrough debut on the label\, 2013’s “This Side of Jordan\,” and its follow-up\, last year’s “Such Jubilee.”Since then they’ve steadily picked up speed and fans they’ve earned from long stretches on the road\, including appearances at Newport Folk Festival\, Austin City Limits Fest\, and Telluride Bluegrass. It’s been an auspicious journey for a pair who casually met at a bluegrass jam session in 2009.\n“When we finished ‘Such Jubilee\,’ I started writing these songs with a different goal in mind. I thought about how I would write songs for somebody else to record\,” Marlin explains. “I ended up with a bunch of songs like that\, but we chose ones that I still felt personally connected to.”\nHoled up at the Rubber Room studio in Chapel Hill\, N.C.\, with a full band this time around\, they laid down the tracks in a week between touring. They’ve always been keen on the notion that drawn-out recording sessions don’t necessarily yield better results. A good song\, and just one good take\, will always shine through any studio sorcery.\nThe passage of time\, and the regret that often accompanies it\, courses through these songs. “When did all the good times turn to hard lineson my face/ And lead me so far from my place right by your side?” Marlin ruminates on “My Blinded Heart.”\nIn fact\, there’s heartache by the numbers on “Blindfaller.” If you didn’t know better\, you’d swear “Picking Up Pieces” is a tearjerker George Jones or Willie Nelson sang back in the early 1970s. It’s a Mandolin Orange original\, of course\, and also a poignant reminder of the economy and grace with which Marlin imbues his songs – say what’s important and scrap the rest.\nA country dirge with soulful washes of pedal steel and mandolin\, “Wildfire” details the the lingering\, present-day devastation of slavery and the Civil War\, with Marlin’s voice locking into close harmonies with Frantz on the chorus.“Take This Heart of Gold” opens with perhaps the best classic-country line you’ll hear all year: “Take this heart of gold and melt it down.” (Marlin admits it was inspired by a Tom Waits lyric he misheard.)\nBut there’s also room for detours. Straight out of a honky tonk\, “Hard Travelin’” lets the band shift into overdrive. A freewheeling ode to life on the road\, it had been kicking around for a while but never fit on previous releases.\nAs for the album title\, it’s meant to evoke a sense of wonder\, of contemplation. A “faller” is someone who fells trees\, and in this case that person is blind to his/her own actions and those of the world. The spectral cover photo\, by Scott McCormick\, is open to interpretation\, too: Either those trees are engulfed in flames or sunlight is pouring through them. It’s up to you.\n“We wanted different vibes and different intuitions on these tracks\,” Marlin says\, “and I feel like we really captured that.”\nTime – Doors Open at 7:15 PM Show Starts at 8:00 PM

SUMMARY:An Evening with Travis Tritt
DESCRIPTION:No sky is bluer\, no air crisper\, no leaf greener than after a storm\, and Travis Tritt is adding a musical addendum to that list with the release of The Calm After …. Part metaphor and surprisingly literal\, the title is reflective of a fresh and focused start for one of the most successful and acclaimed musical creators of his era. The tumult his music has come through to get this point\, however\, is very real.\n“I feel so humbled and blessed to be where I am right now\,” says Travis\, who will release the album on his own Post Oak Records. “My voice has never been stronger\, I’m constantly playing and working to become a better guitar player\, banjo player\, vocalist and songwriter. I am honestly as excited about the creative process and performing now as I was the day I signed my first record deal.”\nThe highly abbreviated Tritt timeline has the young Georgian incorporating lifelong influences in Southern Rock\, blues and gospel into his country during a honky-tonk apprenticeship that led him to Warner Bros. His 1990 debut Country Club and its succession of hits put him in the vanguard of the genre’s early ’90s boom. At the same time\, his conspicuous lack of a cowboy hat and musical aggressiveness set him apart. The next eight albums and scores of hit singles led him to amass more than 25 million in career album sales\, two Grammys\, three CMA Awards and a devoted fan base that filled venues coast-to-coast.

SUMMARY:The Annie Moses Band
DESCRIPTION:Sponsored by An Anonymous Donor\nWarner Classics recording artist\, the Annie Moses Band has been inspiring and entertaining audiences for over a decade\, bringing their distinctive style of music across the U.S. and around the world. A captivating blend of folk and classical\, the Annie Moses Band is a talented ensemble of songwriters\, singers\, musicians\, and siblings combining technical skill with exhilarating showmanship.\nThe Art of the Love Song\, the Annie Moses Band’s PBS special\, is old-school elegance in the mold of Grace Kelly and Cary Grant. The band keeps a classical aesthetic in these archetypal love songs\, while flavoring them with retro strings and gypsy-jazz violin. Nat King Cole’s velvet stringwork serves as a big inspiration as well. The ultra-creative members of the band pluck repertoire from the Great American Songbook of the 40’s and 50’s\, then borrow from such soulful folk/rock songsmiths of the 60’s and 70’s as Don McLean\, Paul Williams and John Lennon. The Art of the Love Song is a tribute to the most treasured love songs of the last century. SUMMARY:The Jokes on You Comedy Tour
DESCRIPTION:A Gallagher concert is an unforgettable experience. He is a keen and original observer of human nature and the American scene. “My humor makes people think\,” Gallagher says. “I want people to look more closely at this country and their lives to see the humor and absurdity in it all …I don’t have to make it up\, the truth is funny enough.”\nArtie is one of the Entertainment Industry’s most talked-about “must-see” performers. No stranger to Film and Television\, Commercials\, Voice-overs\, Print and Live Stand-up Comedy\, Artie is taking the industry and Newstalk Radio waves by storm. Artie has been seen on Law and Order\, Conan O’Brien\, David Letterman and The Tonight Show. He has performed his dynamic act in such places as Las Vegas\, Atlantic City\, Radio City Music Hall\, Westbury Music Fair\, The Toyota Comedy Festival\, The Chicago Comedy Festival and Universal Orlando…to name a few.\nWatching a Bob Nelson live performance is like watching several different types of top comedians all rolled up into one. Characters like the lovable nerd Eppy Epperman\, punchy boxer Jiffy Jeff and chicken rancher Wilby Stuckinson are as funny and memorable as any you will see in comedy today. Bob’s football routine is a recognized comedy classic and “Morning”\, his tale of a farmer and a duck\, is one of the finest works of one man showmanship to grace the modern stage. If all that were not enough\, Bob’s ability to relay personal stories and observations about everyday life put him in the same league as the best of today’s stand-up comics.

SUMMARY:Darryl Worley\, Charlie Allen\, and Jim Brown
DESCRIPTION:DARRYL WORLEY\n\n\nWEBSITE\nFACEBOOK\n\n\nThrough five albums and seventeen chart hits\, Darryl Worley has produced one of the most impressive and wide-ranging catalogs in contemporary music. He has for ten years been a mainstay of modern country\, a distinctive singer and first-rate songwriter whose music has chronicled life\, love and the world situation with equal facility.\n\n\nCHARLIE ALLEN\n\n\nWEBSITE\nFACEBOOK\nTWITTER\n\n\nBristol\, Tennessee\, is a town best known today for its motor speedway. But\, historically\, its real claim to fame is as the birthplace of modern country music for it was there that Ralph Peer first recorded The Carter Family and Jimmie Rodgers – creating what is today known as “the big-bang” of country music.\nCharlie Allen was born in Bristol\, Tennessee\, into a family steeped in country music. Allen’s mother\, Louise Bouton\, was a regular on WCYB radio’s “Fun and Farm Time\,” and she is a member of the Bristol Hall of Fame. His father\, Charles D. Bouton\, was an artist manager.\nSinging and performing was the family business\, and Allen and his brothers\, William and Robert\, learned from the best. Just as some mothers give their children toys\, Allen’s mom gave him a broom and taught him to pretend that it was a microphone. Eventually\, he learned to play the guitar\, piano\, steel guitar and drums. When most of his friends were getting on a school bus\, Allen was getting on a tour bus.\nAllen’s uncle\, Jim Harless\, was also in the music business in Ft. Worth\, Texas. It was there at age seven with his family that Allen began honing his skills as a singer and performer at the legendary Panther Hall. The stage was his classroom\, and his teachers were the pillars of country music: Loretta Lynn\, Hank Williams\, Jr.\, Waylon Jennings\, and Jerry Lee Lewis. These are just a few of the touring performers that Allen fronted for and worked with. During this time Allen signed his first recording contract with Decca Records.\nBy age fifteen\, Allen was fronting his own group\, The Bouton Brothers. They appeared on various television shows in Bristol and Kingsport\, opening for the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band\, Charley Pride and others. He also hosted his own television show sponsored by Martha White.\nLater on Allen was signed to Parc Records\, an independent label and publishing company with offices in Orlando\, Florida\, and Nashville. Parc and their affiliate Parc Studios boasted a stellar list of clients such as The Backstreet Boys\, ‘N Snyc\, Britney Spears\, and Mariah Carey among others.\nCommuting between Nashville and Orlando\, Allen wrote and recorded many songs including “Better Said Than Done” co-written with Earl Thomas Conley. That song garnered Allen his first critical acclaim from Music Row’s toughest critic Robert K. Oermann who has been an ardent supporter ever since. He also made fans of the nationally syndicated radio show hosts John Boy and Billy who said\, “We believe that Charlie is destined for stardom. He has a heart as big as Tennessee and a voice to match it.”\nPresently\, Allen is signed to indy label River Run Records and has recently completed the album “That Was Then\, This Is Now.” His current single “See If I Care” is currently climbing the charts.\nIn a recent interview\, Allen summed his career up: “When you write a song\, especially when you have a ‘hook’ that speaks to people’s hearts\, well\, that’s the thing that keeps you going.”\nIt is this real and genuine down-to-earth attitude coupled with a phenomenal talent that will keep Charlie Allen’s voice on the radio for a long time to come.\nThe year 2009 was a banner year for Charlie Allen. The Manchester\, Tennessee\, native has seen his music gain acceptance around the world\, and his media visibility has never been higher. In January 2009\, he made a promotional appearance at MIDEM in Cannes\, France\, and performed an invitation-only showcase event at the Gibson Guitar Studio in London\, England. He also celebrated his second #1 single in Europe. Mid-year he was a featured guest on a special Memorial Day edition of the FOX News show “Geraldo at Large” and prepared for his second appearance at the mega-festival “Bonnaroo”in June.\nAllen’s new single “Proof” is from his CD “That Was Then\, This Is Now” about which Music Row scribe Robert K. Oermann recently stated\, “I have made no secret of my respect for this artist. He’s proudly country and this groove-saturated drinking song is one more feather in his cap.”\n\n\nJIM BROWN\nJust as there are two sides to every story\, there are “two sides” that motivate and inspire the kind of music I write and sing. When you come to one of my shows\, you can expect to hear a range of music in style and emotion from the tender sentimental love song\, “Don’t Close Your Eyes” by Keith Whitley or an edgy rocker like\, “Take It Outside” by Brantley Gilbert.\nI can remember sitting behind the drums in my Uncle’s rock and roll band when I was two years old and feeling\, for the first time\, a surge of energy being on stage. From that time on music became a part of my life. When I was three years old\, my mother and father gave me my first guitar and I began a journey that has led me to where I am today.\nWhile growing up I listened to Rock n’ Roll including\, Led Zeppelin\, ZZ Top\, Billy Joel\, Kiss\, Foreigner\, Leonard Skynyrd\, The Beatles\, James Taylor\, Ted Nugent and Peter Frampton\, along with the country sounds of Johnny Cash\, Keith Whitley\, Conway Twitty\, Merle Haggard and Waylon Jennings. These early influences\, along with today’s music of Blake Shelton\, Jason Aldean\, Montgomery Gentry and others\, have molded the man I am and the music I sing today.\nThe first time I got on stage to sing was at the famous Nashville Palace when I was 19 years old. I remember how I felt looking at the audience and being nervous and excited all at the same time\, telling myself to do the best I could and to just keep on going. At a later time\, during a conversation with Barbara Mandrell\, I asked her how she dealt with being on stage. She shared a quote that Minnie Pearl had given to her\, “If you get up there on stage and love them\, they will love you right back.” From that day forward I have thought about the power in those words; and\, for the most part\, when I perform on stage I feel comfortable and relaxed\, like the stage is “my shower” and the audience is “my mirror.” I always look forward to engaging with my fans both on and off stage and giving back to them as much as I can.\nThe way I share my life stories through songwriting was influenced by “A Good Year for the Roses” and “It’s Midnight” by Jerry Chestnut\, even before I picked up a pen to write my first song at the age of fifteen. I could relate to the lyrics in his songs and this made an impact on how I wanted to write songs. The lyrics in “The Dance” have also inspired me and kept me going. Knowing how much songs have touched my heart\, I strive to write songs that tell stories about the everyday situations in our day to day lives that others can relate to. I recently released my 14 song album and am enjoying sharing songs from the talented writers who contributed to this project.\nI will always be grateful to singer/songwriter Keith Whitley who helped me along the way with his encouragement and support. In pursuit of my dream\, Keith opened many doors and introduced me to many people in the music business\, which I appreciate and do not forget.\nAn experience along the way that has made a big difference in my life as to what I feel and consider important was in 1997\, when I was working in Memphis and volunteered to read stories to the kids at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. To see what these kids go through and how they can still keep a smile on their faces and have hope is truly inspiring. This is one reason why when you come to a Jim Brown Band show you will see that we like to give back to a charity or someone in need. When you see children and families in these situations you come to find out what really matters. For me\, being a good\, single father\, providing for my son\, picking him up from school and spending time with him\, is the most important thing in my life.\nReflecting on my journey through life and the music business\, I have learned that you can’t please everyone\, and you can’t change the way others feel about you\, so be yourself. Equally meaningful and helpful for me to remember is that if you want something and you think it is within your reach\, there is nothing that will hold you back\, except yourself. In my life God is in control. I see doors open when our wants become other people’s needs. It is then we are truly blessed.\n\n\nVenue Information:\nParamount Bristol\n518 State Street\nBristol\, TN\, 37620\nhttps://www.paramountbristol.org/

SUMMARY:1964...The Tribute
DESCRIPTION:Since the early eighties\, “1964”…The Tribute has been thrilling audiences around the globe by taking them on a journey through a quintessential moment in music history that will live forever.\nOver twenty years of researching and performing have made “1964” masters of their craft. They are hailed by critics and fans alike as THE most authentic and endearing Beatles tribute…which has earned them the distinction from Rolling Stone magazine as the “Best Beatles Tribute on Earth.”\n“1964” recreates an early 60’s live Beatles concert with period instruments\, clothing\, hairstyles\, and onstage banter with an accuracy that is unmatched.\n“1964” is comprised of Mark Benson as John Lennon\, Mac Ruffing as Paul McCartney\, Tom Work as George Harrison\, and Bobby Potter as Ringo Starr. Mark says\, “‘1964’ shows the audience what it was like to attend a Beatles concert in the early sixties and generates the same feeling of happiness that is still generated by the music of The Beatles. We get so much of this positive energy back from our audiences\, it reassures us that for now\, we are where we are supposed to be.”\nTicket Fee: $1.50 per ticket\nNo processing or delivery fees
