SUMMARY:Bristol Ballet presents Mulan
DESCRIPTION:BRISTOL BALLET PRESENTS MULAN\nMAY 13\, 2017 | 5:30 PM\nPARAMOUNT CENTER FOR THE ARTS\n(423) 274-8920 | MAP | WEBSITE \nExperience the legend of Mulan\, the young lady who volunteered to take her father’s place in China’s war against invaders. Based on the Ballad of Mulan\, which was first transcribed in the 6th century\, the story has been popular not only in China\, but worldwide. Bristol Ballet’s “Mulan\, the Legend” is set to the score “Mulan – Ballet in Three Acts” by Joshua Chan\, who composed it especially for the Hong Kong Ballet. Artistic Director Michele Plescia was fortunate to acquire the score directly from Mr. Chan\, as it is not for sale commercially . The beautiful\, melodic music is a treasure for Bristol Ballet to have and to use. From Mulan’s decision to go to war for her father\, her time practicing to fight the invaders\, the battles\, to her victorious return home\, this ballet will be inspirational to all. As a student concert involving ages 4 and up\, there will be many memorable moments to see!

SUMMARY:Jonesborough's Dulcimer Week
DESCRIPTION:Jonesborough’s Dulcimer Week\nMay 13-20th\n \nJonesborough’s Dulcimer Week celebrates the role of the Appalachian mountain dulcimer in American life with nine days of concerts\, workshops and “Hands on Jonesborough” opportunities in pottery\, drawing and painting.\n \nJonesborough’s Dulcimer Week takes place May13 through the 21st. Kicking off the week is Ivy Rowe\, which shares the story of the life of a spunky Appalachia woman while tying in dulcimer accompaniment to add the perfect touch. The play will be held on the 13th at the McKinney Center at 7 p.m. and tickets are $10.\n \nGrab a chair and head down to the Courthouse steps for a unique Music on the Square performance. Joe Collins\, well recognized mountain dulcimer player\, will be playing on Friday the 19th with Thistle Dew\, eclectic dulcimer group\, being the opening act.\n \nSaturday\, May 20th Joe Collins will be leading three workshops\, the first being in the morning designed for the experienced folk. At 11 a.m. Joe will jump back to the basics and hold a workshop for those just being introduced to the dulcimer\, he will repeat this clinic at 1:30 p.m. that day.\n \n“Bring that dulcimer off the wall or out of the attic!” Said Don Burger\, Dulcimer Week organizer. “Maybe Grandpa played it and he’s not here anymore. Bring his dulcimer to Jonesborough! There is a whole crew of experienced people who can teach you.” You are encouraged to bring your dulcimer with you\, but there will be a few “loaner” instruments as well.\n \nFree Dulcimer workshops will be dotted throughout downtown along with “Hands on Jonesborough” opportunities in pottery\, drawing and painting. “Hands on Jonesborough” is a group of artists who setup throughout Historic downtown Jonesborough and invites anyone to join them in creating a piece of art work. It’s is a unique\, free and memorable experience. “Hands on Jonesborough” blossomed from a grass roots beginning to create a way for individuals to experience Jonesborough’s story through their very own hands.\n \nThese events will be on various days and times throughout the week-long celebration\, see the full calendar for specific days and times. SUMMARY:Donald Davis Storytelling Concert
DESCRIPTION: \nYou only get one chance a year to laugh until you cry\, or cry until you laugh. Donald Davis\, one of America’s favorite master storytellers\, is coming to the Historic Jonesborough Visitors Center on May 15 and 16 at 7:30 p.m.\nDavis was born in a Southern Appalachian Mountain world that was rich in stories. “I didn’t learn stories\, I just absorbed them\, he says as he recounts tales learned from a family of traditional storytellers who have lived on the same Western North Carolina land since 1781.\nDavis’ resume boasts numerous experiences including Davidson College\, Duke University Divinity School\, a retired Methodist minister and former chairperson of the board of Directors for the National Storytelling Association. He is a favorite at the National Storytelling Festival\, and has also served as a featured teller at the Smithsonian Institute\, the World’s Fair as well as festivals and concerts throughout the United States and the world.\nFor Donald Davis\, storytelling is a way of giving and living life. He invites each listener to come along\, pull deep inside for one’s own stories and personally share the common experiences that celebrate the creative spirit. For Donald Davis\, storytelling “is not what I do for a living\, but it is how I do all that I do while I am living.”  For more information about Davis\, visit ddavisstoryteller.com.\nGeneral admission to the Donald Davis concert is $12. A special group rate for 15 or more people is also available for $10 per person. SUMMARY:Triumphant Quartet
DESCRIPTION:The one consistent thing about life is change. Things around us are constantly changing. So when a group like Triumphant Quartet maintains consistency\, it speaks volumes about whom they are and what all they have accomplished. Triumphant is the face of quality Gospel Music\, Christian integrity\, family values\, friendship and dedication. The group has been that way since their beginnings in 2003\, when the four friends first walked out on to the stage of the Louise Mandrell Theater\, in Pigeon Forge\, Tennessee as a headlining talent. Each current Triumphant group member was there in that defining moment\, and has continued together ever since. Their smooth harmonies\, and rich quartet sound quickly gained them national attention\, recognition and concert demand. That popularity promoted the group in 2008\, from singing daily at the theater\, to touring nationally and performing in major concert venues\, auditoriums and churches. It has also voted them the Fan Favorite Quartet in the Gospel Music field for the last six years\, and each group member also being nominated for and receiving various awards. Triumphant Quartet has had three #1 Songs and several others have climbed the Top 40 music charts\, which has also contributed to their popularity. Gospel music fans agree that the triumphant sound is distinctive\, solid quartet singing. But Triumphant excels in diversity\, and also expands their musical borders to a wide variety of styles\, that is enjoyed by church audiences and music lovers. When Triumphant takes the stage\, the audience is entertained by the musical variety\, the engaging personalities and a bond that is brought together by years of friendship. Audiences will find themselves smiling\, laughing\, crying\, encouraged and uplifted. And most of all\, they will walk away having had the Gospel Message presented to them in a powerful way\, with a hope that many will receive Christ as their Lord and Savior. Jesus Christ is the focus of Triumphant. He is the reason they sing\, and these four gentlemen stay consistent and steadfast in their goal of giving their very best in all they do and every song sung.\n\n\nVenue Information:\nParamount Center For The Arts\n518 State Street\nBristol\, TN\, 37620\nhttps://www.paramountbristol.org/

She also joined White on fiddle and backing vocals for a special acoustic performance on A Prairie Home Companion with Chris Thile last October.
