SUMMARY:Elizabethton Covered Bridge Celebration
DESCRIPTION:The event will be held June 8-10. While entertainment will be held nightly; vendors will be selling on Friday and Saturday beginning at 10am.\nOn Thursday\, June 8th music will begin at 6pm and we will close out that evening with Carson Peters and Iron Mountain. Carson Peters started playing the fiddle at the age of 3. At 12 years old\, Carson is a seasoned performer playing numerous venues with his band throughout the region; Bristol Rhythm and Roots\, Dollywood’s Bluegrass and BBQ\, Asheville’s Bluegrass First Class\, Song of the Mountains\, Carter Family Fold and WDVX’s World Class Bluegrass concert series to name a few. Carson has also had the honor of playing on national TV as a guest on NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno\, Little Big Shots with Steve Harvey\, as well as play with Jimmy Fortune on the floor of the Tennessee State Senate. On March 28\, 2014\, Carson’s dream of playing on the Grand Ole Opry stage was realized when he was invited by Ricky Skaggs to come perform with him and his band\, Kentucky Thunder. In May of the same year\, Carson was asked to make a reappearance at the Opry\, but this time with his own band. On July 31\, 2014\, Carson made his Ryman Auditorium debut playing again with Ricky Skaggs during the 2014 Bluegrass Nights series. Since these appearances\, Carson and his band have performed numerous occasions on the Opry Show.\nOn Friday\, June 9th our full festival will begin at 10am with all arts/crafts\, food vendors and kid’s attractions open for business! Music will begin at 5pm on Friday and will close out with Blue Highway. A highly-esteemed bluegrass band\, Blue Highway has earned a collective 26 IBMA Awards\, 6 SPBGMA Awards\, one Dove Award\, plus three Grammy nominations as a band\, in addition to two prestigious Grammy Awards among its current members. Blue Highway was voted the Favorite Bluegrass Artist of All Time by the readers of Bluegrass Today in April 2016.\nThe Chamber is excited to announce that Grammy Award Winner\, Suzy Bogguss will be closing out the festival on Saturday\, June 10th. Suzy’s accomplishments include ten albums for Capitol Records\, one of which has been certified platinum and three others\, gold. Eight of her singles have cracked country music’s top 5. Suzy is the recipient of a GRAMMY award as well as several awards from the Academy of Country Music\, The Country Music Association\, CMT\, and ASCAP.\nSaturday will feature some of our favorite events like local dancers\, the Little Mr. and Miss Hillbilly Contest and the Covered Bridge 5k Run/3k walk. Not only will Suzy Bogguss be closing out the festival in musical entertainment on Saturday night\, but there will also be a beautiful Fireworks Display created by Dynamic Effects sponsored by Snap-on Tools after her performance.

Moderated by Museum Director Jessica Turner\, this workshop will explore English-language balladry\, an influential music tradition dating back hundreds of years.\nThree prominent ballad singers — Archie Fisher of Scotland\, Sheila Kay Adams of Western North Carolina\, and Elizabeth LaPrelle of Southwest Virginia — will discuss balladry’s emergence in the Old World and the tradition’s re-emergence in the New World. The three singers will describe where and how they learned ballads and what those ballads mean to them and to their audiences. Additionally\, this workshop will present attendees with a rare opportunity to ask master ballad singers for insights regarding ways to effectively interpret traditional as well as contemporary ballads.

SUMMARY:71st Annual Rhododendron Festival
DESCRIPTION:It was June 1947\, when the first festival along the mountain tops of Northeast Tennessee dedicated to the bright blooms of the Rhododendron took place.\nThe Roan Mountain Rhododendron Festival has grown in to a weekend event that folks from all over the United States anticipate\, as mother nature works her magic and produces the type of scenery that you just have to see with your own eyes.  And\, the 2017 Festival is timed just right\, as the Catawba Rhododendrons are expected to be in full bloom June 17 and 18. The Festival was conceived and is carried out by the Roan Mountain Citizens Club as a two-day celebration to memorialize and perpetuate one of the most gorgeous displays of natural beauty on the North American continent.\nOriginally\, the nature inspired event was held at the top of Roan Mountain. But\, in recent years it has relocated to accommodate large crowds and to include more activities at Roan Mountain State Park. This year’s Festival features handmade crafts\, food\, and a variety of traditional music\, plus an array of old-time folkway demonstrations.\nThe Wow Factor\nVisiting the world’s largest natural rhododendron gardens atop 6\,000-ft Roan Mountain is worth the trip\, but you’ll also hike the Appalachian Trail as it runs along the border of Tennessee and North Carolina. Visitors can also connect with nature as they relax beside cool streams that run through the numerous hiking trails within the park. You may even decide to make a full weekend out of the Festival by camping at Roan Mountain State Park or stay in one of their rustic cabins.\nWhat to Expect\nThe Festival takes place Saturday and Sunday\, June 17 and 18 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. DESCRIPTION:Held each Friday evening\, May through September\, Main Street is blocked off to through traffic and everyone is invited to attend and enjoy the concerts that begin around 7pm. Event tickets are only needed during the Winter Series\, but we do “pass the hat” during the regular season. Come have dinner in one of our unique restaurants and indulge in some ice cream at the General Store. Most shops stay open late\, so pay them a visit to get the whole “Jonesborough Experience”.

DESCRIPTION:Free Live music on multiple stages featuring Folk Soul Revival\, Rubiks Groove and many more bands\n \nCar Show and Auto Cross\nRhyythms and Rides Festival will be hosting an autocross at Bristol Motor Speedway…8:00am – 2:00pm\nAll racers receive entry and prime parking in Downtown Kingsport after the race! Lots of runs and lots of fun!! Rhythms and Rides AutoCross is the opportunity for registered participants at our show to put their Street Rod\, Sports Car or Street Machine through the paces to test their driving skills and see how their car handles in a performance situation. The Rhythms and Rides AutoCross course is located at Bristol Motor Speedway and will have plenty of turns and curves to test even the best-tuned suspension among other things. All participants will be timed. At the end of the event\, one winner from each of the Pro\, Classic\, Sports Car classes will take home an award. The prizes will be presented during the Saturday awards show in Downtown Kingsport. Seat belts and a valid driver’s license are required and you must be 18 years or older to drive the course. Just bring your registered/ street legal vehicle to the AutoCross tech area at the event to get inspected and you are ready to run.

He spent thirteen years as a member of NC cult heroes Arrogance. Around 1983\, Dixon attracted attention by co-producing with Mitch Easter\, R.E.M.’s landmark debut LP Murmur. He then spent several years producing the work of varied artists including Chris Stamey (formerly of The dB’s) and The Smithereens. Considered to be a highlight of this period was Tommy Keene’s Run Now EP (co-produced with T Bone Burnett). The parade will take place on Saturday\, July 1 at 10 a.m. throughout downtown.\nFestival hours include Friday and Saturday\, June 30 and July 1 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday\, July 2 from Noon to 10 p.m.  Admission to the festival is free and open to the public.\nThe festival has been voted as one of the top events in the southeast and is known for its community patriotism and nostalgic atmosphere. Various entertainment and activities will take place throughout the historic district on all three days. Doc’s Front Porch will feature a variety of storytellers and musicians on the plaza at the International Storytelling Center during the day. The Main Stage will also feature entertainment each evening including The Beach Nite Band\, The WannaBeatles\, Southern Accents- Tribute to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and more. Shop over 70 vendors\, showcasing local handmade crafters with a variety of wares. DESCRIPTION:2017 SCHEDULE\n\n\nPepsi-Beverages Company of Johnson City and the City of Johnson City will sponsor the 32nd Annual Independence Day Fireworks Celebration on the grounds of Freedom Hall Civic Center. This year’s event will be held on Tuesday\, July 4th. Everyone is invited to join in the festivities. There will not be a rain date for this event. The fireworks time could be delayed if there is inclement weather that evening. Visitors will be moved inside the Freedom Hall arena in the event of severe weather. DESCRIPTION:The front lawn of the Dickson-Williams Mansion will be alive with music this July at the fourth annual Lyrics on the Lawn music concert series. The free concerts are a project of Main Street: Greeneville\, and will take place every Thursday evening\, rain or shine during the month of July. All performances are free and open to the public.\nThis year’s lineup features a mix of musical genres and artists from the region. Hunter Grigg\, My New Favorites\, Blind Duck\, Ras Alan\, Tusculum College Jazz Band\, Brother Boys\, Underpass and Wise Old River will perform. For complete details and dates\, visit www.mainstreetgreeneville.org.\nLyrics on the Lawn concerts are family friendly and open to all. Folks are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket. You are welcome to bring a picnic supper or purchase food from one of the event food vendors\, Creamy Cup\, Top Dog Catering\, and Main Street: Greeneville\, or other area restaurants\, to enjoy during the performances. This year\, Kingsport’s ShowTime will return to the Toy F Reid Auditorium stage to present special “Spirit of Kingsport” Centennial Performances on July 7\, 8\, & 9.\nThe performances will highlight the history of Kingsport through ten decades of song and dance featuring popular music\, exciting Broadway hits\, time-honored country music favorites\, traditional gospel medleys\, inspirational contemporary praise hymns\, fast-paced rock and roll\, and spirited patriotic tunes.\nShowTime is a unique family-oriented musical/dance entertainment presentation performed by a local community cast of 120 adults\, teens\, and children. Each ShowTime performance is an original theme-styled production produced by founder\, Louise Bailey Dickson\, a Kingsport native\, and co-directed with Clark Parker\, vocal director and musical arranger. The master of ceremonies will be Josh Smith\, WJHL television anchor.\nThe cast and crew represents the “Spirit of Kingsport” through volunteerism and community pride by sharing their time and talent to provide fun family entertainment for our enthusiastic audiences.
