SUMMARY:Capitol Theatre: William Wild
DESCRIPTION:The Capitol Theatre of Greeneville’s Appalachian Homegrown Series continues in March with William Wild.\nWilliam Wild is the moniker of 24-year-old Alternative singer-songwriter Garrett Sale. Born and raised at the foothill of the Appalachian Mountains in Knoxville\, TN\, Sale began to pursue music while attending The University of Tennessee.\nIt was there that Sale worked on his first collection of recordings with Knoxville friends and fellow musicians\, eventually releasing a self-titled LP under the name “William Wild” (the nickname of a local homeless man).\nSale then embarked on a solo journey through Europe\, where he wrote four of the six songs on his new EP\, Steady Now. Continuing with the layered vocals\, l…ush strings\, dark tones of the debut album\, Steady Now explores Sale’s search for peace while wrestling with self-pity\, guilt and materialism.\nThe title track is a beautifully intense experience as he sings “Oh death won’t you give me a second chance. I’m looking for an easy way out. I need it more than the company I’m searching for.”\nThe album’s most cutting song “When I’ve Been Gone” is also his most personal\, written from the perspective of his father who was homeless for 5 years and battling addiction. It’s an emotional experience as he sings “What about those times I almost changed? What do they mean?”\nThe opening song “Sleeptalk” finds him consumed by anxiety with a romantic relationship to stabilize himself. “Even when you run like a bullet shot out of a gun\,” he sings\, “I’m gonna let you know where you need to be”.\nHazy guitars\, dusty keys\, and blurry pedal steel illuminate the recordings of weighty songs immersed in loss\, fear of failure\, and the worthiness of human existence. With plush nostalgic pop sensibilities\, Steady Now radiates tranquility. In an atmosphere of warmth\, the listener is invited to delve into psyche of kindred spirits. It is there that unfaltering refuge is found.\nTickets: $10\nDoors Open: 7:00pm\nShow Time: 8:00pm\nConcessions Available – FREE WIFI\nWebsite: www.williamwildmusic.com\nFacebook: www.facebook.com/williamwildmusic\nVideo: www.youtube.com/watch?v=icyG4zF_tsM\nType of Music: Indie Folk\nCome if you like: Van Morrison\, Crosby Stills & Nash\, Ben Howard

SUMMARY:Farm & Fun Time: Bumper Jacksons\, Roochie Toochie & The Sheperd Kings and Bill & the Belles
DESCRIPTION:Radio Bristol presents the Farm and Fun Time variety show\, live from the Birthplace of Country Music Museum with the rootsy jazz of Bumper Jacksons and the tin pan alley sound of Roochie Toochie & the Shepherd Kings.\nDate: Thursday\, March 8\, 2018\nTime: 7:00 p.m.\n(Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Must be in your seat by 6:50 p.m.)\nLocation: Birthplace of Country Music Museum\nBUY TICKETS \nABOUT FARM AND FUN TIME\nFarm and Fun Time the historic Radio Program broadcasting from Downtown Bristol\, was a staple to listeners across the Southeast during the 1940s and 1950s on the former WCYB Radio. Radio Bristol breathes new life into the classic program with a fun\, energetic show broadcasting live from the Birthplace of Country Music Museum and features music by house band Bill & the Belles. Hosted by Radio Bristol producer and house band-leader Kris Truelsen\, Farm & Fun Time is an event the whole family can enjoy live\, in the studio or when gathered around their radios. \nABOUT THE TALENT\n\nBumper Jacksons\nBumper Jacksons are hot and sweet\, painting America’s story from the streets of New Orleans to Appalachian hollers. Unafraid to scrap together new sounds from forgotten 78’s\, the Bumper Jacksons elegantly balance paying homage to the traditions while fashioning their own unique\, playful style. The group began as a duo\, a city-meets-country experiment between songstress Jess Eliot Myhre and banjo player Chris Ousley. They hopped on bicycles\, touring the country\, instruments on their backs\, seeking to reimagine roots music. In five short years\, Bumper Jacksons grew to a brassy seven-piece\, with horns and pedal steel. They’ve been honored multiple times as the Mid-Atlantic’s “Artist of the Year” & “Best Traditional Band” at the Washington Area Music Awards. Bursting at the seams with some of the richest threads of old America\, Bumper Jacksons bring you into the center of a party where everyone’s invited and the dance floor never sleeps.\n\nRoochie Toochie & the Ragtime Shepherd Kings\n“Our mission is to perform the weirdest songs from the early days of tin pan alley on the format on which they were first recorded—wax cylinder.\nWe all share a love of antiquated pop tunes\, and we recently took on the challenge of recording them in the only medium that does them justice. These old songs give a voice to a bygone era and reflect the attitudes of their time\, and no matter how silly they seem they are historical documents of their time.\nWe aim to mine the zaniest and most obscure songs from the early 20th century and record them for a new audience to underscore both the absurdity and importance of popular music in American history.” – Roochie Toochie & the Ragtime Shepherd Kings.\n\nBill & the Belles\nWhat began as a project to explore the space created between hillbilly and urban\, between vaudeville\nand down home\, has arrived somewhere entirely new. Bill and the Belles offers a contemporary\nreimagining of a bygone era\, a vocal-centric performance that breathes new life into the sounds of\nearly country music. At the foothills of the Blue Ridge and the forefront of old-time music\, Bill and the\nBelles continue to further the music traditions of their region. From sentimental Southern ballads to the\npopular songs of Tin Pan Alley to regional fiddle breakdowns\, a Bill and the Belles show is a celebration\nof the diversity country music once represented.\nBill and the Belles play alongside America’s top country and roots music artists as the house band for\nthe historic radio program Farm and Fun Time presented by Radio Bristol and the Birthplace of Country\nMusic. Lifelong musicians Kris Truelsen\, Grace Van’t Hof\, Kalia Yeagle\, and Karl Zerfas bring to the stage\nan uplifting show unlike any other\, full of humor\, high spirits\, and all-around revelry. It’s clear this group\nshares a rare musical connection and deep love for the music\, and their excitement is contagious.

SUMMARY:Get the Let Out: Led Zeppelin
DESCRIPTION:From the bombastic and epic\, to the folky and mystical\, Get The Led Out (GTLO) has captured the essence of the recorded music of Led Zeppelin and brought it to the concert stage. The Philadelphia-based group consists of 6 veteran musicians intent on delivering Led Zeppelin live\, like you’ve never heard before. Utilizing the multi-instrumentalists at their disposal\, GTLO re-creates the songs in all their depth and glory with the studio overdubs that Zeppelin themselves never performed. No wigs or fake English accents\, GTLO brings what the audience wants…a high energy Zeppelin concert with an honest\, heart-thumping intensity. A Get The Led Out performance is a truly awe-inspiring event!

SUMMARY:Netherland Inn-Exchange Place Association Annual Dinner
DESCRIPTION:Kingsport\, February 19\, 2018 — It came in on the back of a mule and left behind the wheel of a Bradley\nGasoline Runabout. It featured 5.3 million people\, predominantly farmers\, living in 16 brand-new entities\ncalled “states\,” mostly adjacent to the Atlantic Ocean\, and ended with 76.2 million people\, still with a great\nmany farmers but now also including ranchers and engineers and industrialists and architects\, living in 45\nstates and spread out as far as the Pacific Ocean. It saw a brutal war fought to end the abomination of\nslavery. Two Presidents were assassinated\, a national park was created\, candlelight gave way to Thomas\nEdison’s incandescent bulb\, and the twin mechanized marvels of the telegraph and telephone began to slowly\nreplace paper and pencil as a major means of communication.\nIt was century in which all things seemed possible – it was the 19 th Century\, and it is when the Netherland Inn\,\nExchange Place and Hammond House all began. How they fit into this new world will be explored when the\nNetherland Inn-Exchange Place Association hosts its annual dinner on Sunday\, March 11\, 2018 at the\nPress Room on Roller Street in Kingsport\, beginning at 5:30 pm.\nOur guide for the evening will be noted local history researcher Tony Galloway. A graduate of Dobyns-\nBennett High School\, he was awarded a Bachelor’s Degree from King College and a Master’s Degree from East\nTennessee State University\, and has taught local and regional history\, advanced American history and AP\nGovernment at Dobyns-Bennett; was co-director of the Governor’s School for Tennessee Heritage; and has\nserved in an adjunct faculty position at ETSU\, King College\, Northeast State Community College\, Walters State\nCommunity College\, Virginia Intermont College\, and Tusculum College. He has served as a board member for\na variety of local historical groups\, including the Heritage Alliance TAH Advisory Board\, Tipton-Haynes\, Rocky\nMount\, and our own Netherland Inn/Exchange Place Association.\nMr. Galloway will be ably supported by members of the Appalachian Express Chorus. Entertaining\nthroughout the Mountain Empire since 1968\, the AEC is a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society and will\nbe providing period-appropriate music. (For more information on the chorus\, please see their website –\nappalachianexpresschorus.org.)\nAnd since this is a dinner meeting\, food\, of course\, will also be provided. Food City will be serving their\nalways-excellent dinner of oven-fried chicken\, potatoes\, mixed vegetables\, assorted cake slices\, sweet and\nunsweetened tea\, and soft drinks.\nAll guests are welcome! Please RSVP by Thursday\, March 8\, by contacting either Sara Selby\n(423-349- 8372 or sbselby@juno.com)\, or Marshall Adesman (423-357- 5352 or\nmsadesman@gmail.com)\, or by sending in your check for $18 per person to:\nNI/EP Association\, P.O. Box 293\, Kingsport\, TN 37662.\n \nThe Netherland Inn/Exchange Place Association is a non-profit\, 501(c)3\, volunteer-run organization\, whose\npurpose is to contribute to the better understanding and appreciation of the early history of this region\, and to\npreserve the important landmarks (which also includes the Hammond House)\, antiques\, relics\, and documents\nas a part of our local\, state\, and national heritage.\n
