SUMMARY:Farm & Fun Time ft. Carson Peters & Iron Mountain\, The Brother Brothers
DESCRIPTION:Radio Bristol Presents Farm and Fun Time ft.\nCarson Peters & Iron Mountain\, The Brother Brothers July 12\nLive Variety Show at the Birthplace of Country Music Museum\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBristol\, VA/TN\, (June 21\, 2018) — Young Carson Peters has wowed audiences at Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion and the Grand Ole Opry\, and also made national TV with NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Little Big Shots with Steve Harvey. To us\, this precocious Piney Flats\, Tennessee native is one of the brightest examples of how we “grow” young musicans in the traditions of Appalachian music here in our region and an exciting addition to the Farm and Fun Time stage in the “acoustically perfect” Performance Theater at the Birthplace of Country Music Museum. Carson Peters and his band Iron Mountain share the twin brother duo of Adam and Davis Moss\, a.k.a. The Brother Brothers. Some may remember the harmonious Americana act from their performance at last year’s Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion as they took to the stage as part of the 90th anniversary tribute to the 1927 Bristol Sessions. \n“We’ll be coming back with a bang for July’s show with two diverse acts that illustrate how roots music like bluegrass and folk are in good hands with the next generation of pickers and singers\,” said Farm and Fun Time producer and host Kris Truelsen. “The Brother Brothers will soon be touring nationally with acclaimed band I’m With Her\, so this is a great chance to see them here in Bristol. This is a show not to be missed!” \nFarm and Fun Time takes place on Thursday\, July 12 at 7:00 p.m. EST at the museum; doors open at 6:30 p.m. EST and guests are asked to be seated by 6:50 p.m. Tickets to be part of the live studio audience are $30 plus tax and fees. \nFarm and Fun Time features a variety of segments including jingles written and performed by house band Bill and the Belles\, a farm report\, an heirloom recipe segment\, and nationally touring artists. A revival of the former WCYB radio program that aired from downtown Bristol in the 1940s and 1950s\, Radio Bristol’s Farm and Fun Time is original programming the entire family will enjoy. \n\nRadio Bristol can be accessed 24 hours a day\, 7 days a week on 100.1 FM in the Bristol area\, online at ListenRadioBristol.org\, and through the station’s free mobile app. You can also view the program on Radio Bristol’s Facebook Live at Facebook.com/WBCMRadioBristol. \n\nTo purchase tickets and for more information on concerts and programming\, visit the events page at BirthplaceofCountryMusic.org. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Radio Bristol\nPresented by the nonprofit Birthplace of Country Music\, Radio Bristol showcases the diversity of American roots music from the early recording era to today. Reaching the world through their online media center\, Radio Bristol produces original programming through recordings and live sessions from the Birthplace of Country Music Museum and the Bristol\, Virginia/Tennessee region. Radio Bristol broadcasts on 100.1 FM in the Bristol area\, online at ListenRadioBristol.org\, and through the station’s free mobile app. The Birthplace of Country Music is the parent organization of the Birthplace of Country Music Museum\, the annual Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion music festival\, and Radio Bristol. SUMMARY:Border Bash: Thrift Store Cowboys and Guy Marshall
DESCRIPTION:Celebrating 19 years in Historic Downtown\, Border Bash—Bristol’s premier summer concert series—is back for another amazing season! Hosted by Believe in Bristol and the Cities of Bristol\, Virginia and Tennessee\, Border Bash is about fun\, family\, great music\, and creating memories to last a lifetime.\n“Border Bash is a tradition that showcases everything that makes Downtown Bristol special\, and that includes great live music\,” said Maggie Bishop\, Executive Director of Believe in Bristol. “Bristol’s downtown is definitely a hub for a wide variety of food\, unique shopping\, community events\, and an all-around great place to come together with friends and family. This year Border Bash will introduce audiences to a whole new roster of talented\, emerging acts as well as a few familiar favorites.”\n\nAugust 3rd – Piedmont Intersection\n7:00 pm\, Thriftstore Cowboys\n8:30 pm\, Guy Marshall\n\nBorder Bash takes place on State Street in Historic Downtown Bristol. Children’s activities and vendors begin at 6:30 PM and live music will kick off at 7:00 PM. Border Bash is hosted by Believe in Bristol and the Cities of Bristol\, TN & VA. Border Bash would not be possible without our community sponsors. Our sponsors in 2018 include Alpha Natural Resources\, The Antique Automobile Club of America – Appalachian Region\, Bank of America\, Bank of Tennessee\, Birthplace of Country Music\, Blackbird Bakery\, Bristol Herald Courier\, Camellia Digital\, Coca-Cola Bottling Company\, Anne & Ben Cowan\, Discover Bristol\, Express AV Productions\, John & Brenda Fincher\, Grifols\, Highlands Realty – Bristol Branch\, Anna Morgan\, Tom and Barbara Smith/ Merrill Lynch\, Stateline Bar & Grille\, Strongwell\, Tri-Cities Escape Game\, Tri City Tent and Event\, Walling Distributing Dr. & Mrs. Zaidi and media sponsors Bristol Herald Courier\, Radio Bristol\, WCYB-5\, and WXBQ 96.9 FM.\n\nAbout Thriftstore Cowboys\nThe Lubbock based sextet\, which includes Fluitt\, Colt Miller\, Clint Miller\, Cory Ames\, Kris Killingsworth\, and Amanda Shires on fiddle and vocals\, have been touring together for a decade after meeting at the musical South Plains College. They are neither of the typical Texas-based types of bands – a country-rock mélange or strictly indie rock. As Buddy Magazine points out\, “Thrift Store Cowboys’ feel is more\, for a lack of better description\, gypsy desert music — the free sound of spacey\, heat-induced delirium…a sure\, confident sound backed by thoughtful vision.” Schumacher produced their 2007 release\, Lay Low While Crawling or Creeping\, of which Austin Sound said\, “the album is to country music what Jim Jarmusch’s film Deadman was to the western.”\n\nAbout Guy Marshall\nGuy Marshall Shirley was Adam McNulty’s late grandfather. “Shirley passed away in 2008\, but the kind of man that he was and the land he called home lives on inthe music made by McNulty and his wife\, Sarrenna. Together with a few talented friends\, they’ve made Guy Marshall an up-and-coming East Tennessee roots-rock outfit that plays with touching beauty and sincerity.”

SUMMARY:Sorrel
DESCRIPTION:Founded in 2015 by brothers and longtime musical collaborators Seth and Isaac Ratliff\, Sorrel is an Appalachian indie band based out of Tri-Cities\, TN/VA. Sorrel’s music is reminiscent of American traditional music like blues and old-time country while reaching out into folk\, soul\, and indie\, and the band’s influences range from Doc Watson and Tommy Jarrell to Bon Iver and Phoebe Bridgers. With music that blurs the line between old and new\, Sorrel perks up the ears of musical modernists and traditionalists alike.

Guests are asked to arrive promptly at 6:00 p.m. to enjoy catering and adult beverages (for ages 21+ with valid ID) before the show\, included with ticket. \n \nAbout The Malpass Brothers\nAs young boys\, Christopher and Taylor Malpass soaked up the music of their granddad’s phonograph records. Christopher earned his first talent show trophy at age 7\, and Taylor was playing mandolin by the time he was 10. Today\, they promote the work and music of classic country artists they treasure while creating new music and making their own mark in the lineage of a rich American cultural heritage. \nWith sincerity\, honesty and an utter ease on stage that belies their years\, their smooth vocal blend and skillful musicianship layer infectiously into the deep respect they pay to legends who have paved the way. Add the funny\, off-the-cuff quips between the two 20-something siblings\, and the engaging concert becomes a magnetic time-traveling journey to when a calmer rhythm reigned supreme. \nThe Malpass Brothers toured with the late Don Helms\, former steel guitarist for Hank Williams\, have opened for music legend Merle Haggard on multiple tours and appeared on stages from the Shetland Islands to Ryman Auditorium to Merlefest. Gifted musicians and songwriters\, the brothers have shared billing with artists including Ray Price\, Willie Nelson\, Doyle Lawson\, Rhonda Vincent\, Marty Stuart\, Doc Watson and more. The title cut video from their “Memory That Bad” album hit CMT Pure Country’s Top Ten. Their most recent self-titled recording\, produced by bluegrass legend Doyle Lawson\, was released by Crossroads’ Organic Records in 2015.

SUMMARY:Billy Crawford Band
DESCRIPTION:About Billy Crawford Band\nBlues guitar might be associated with Mississippi\, Texas and Chicago\, but a man of the mid-South has something to say about that. The city of Bristol\, smack on the Tennessee/Virginia border\, claims itself as the birthplace of country music. But one of its native sons is making a huge blues noise.\nThe common denominator in all of this is Billy Crawford – raised playing bass in church\, then gaining an early hard-rock pedigree on electric guitar. But for the past three decades\, he has turned his six-string action toward the blues.\nFor much of the 1990s\, audiences around the world heard Crawford’s intense work with blues-rocker Deborah Coleman. He gave up the road in 2002\, when his wife gave birth to their son. Turns out\, son Tyler is a little guitar hotshot\, too.\nBut his daddy still has something to say. His Bristol-based Billy Crawford Band includes some of that region’s finest blues men. The fire is still burning blue from Crawford’s Guitar\, as he rips through blues\, ballads\, rock\, surf – even New Orleans-style.\nUnderpinning it all is a band with plenty of energy and mastery of dynamics. Go to thebillycrawfordband.com to hear and see more and find out when the band is playing in your town.
