SUMMARY:11th Annual Chocolate Fest
DESCRIPTION:Jonesborough Area Merchants & Service Association (JAMSA) will host the eleventh annual Chocolate Fest as a two-day festival on Friday\, February 13 and Saturday\, February 14. \n  \nTake a stroll through Downtown Jonesborough and pick up delicious chocolate treats in celebration of Jonesborough’s Chocolate Fest. There will be chocolate stops dotted throughout downtown provided by Jonesborough small businesses\, each serving something unique and special\, and of course\, chocolate-themed. Attendees will discover endless options\, everything from barks\, fudges\, truffles\, cupcakes\, and so much more. \n  \nChocolate Fest will be a two-day event with four time slots available\, and a limited number of tickets sold. The days and times are as follows: Friday\, February 13\, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.; and Saturday\, February 14\, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. \n  \nBack by popular demand\, JAMSA will offer a special ticket for patrons over 21 called Chocolate After Dark in addition to the regular ticket on Friday\, February 13\, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to purchase the combo ticket (Chocolate Fest/Chocolate After Dark) for $35\, which includes 5 beverage tasting tickets in addition to the chocolate stop tickets. Drink tickets cannot be shared\, and anyone drinking will have a wristband and MUST bring their ID. \n  \nAttendees will have the opportunity to experience live Ice Sculpture carving by the Ice Mill from Asheville\, North Carolina\, only on Saturday\, February 14. Watch as these ice carvers work their magic and create a Jonesborough-themed piece of ice artwork. There will also be a cake walk where attendees can try their luck to win a bento cake\, uniquely wrapped in a take-out box. \n  \nChocolate Fest tickets will be sold in packs of 10 for $20\, and Chocolate Fest/Chocolate After Dark combo tickets are $35. One ticket gives attendees access to one chocolate treat stop. Tickets need to be purchased in advance and are expected to sell out quickly. \n  \nEarly ticket pick-up will begin on Wednesday\, February 11\, through Thursday\, February 12\, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Chocolate After Dark tickets must be picked up on Friday\, beginning at 3 p.m.\, as they require an ID check. All ticket pick-ups will take place at the Historic Jonesborough Visitors Center located on Boone Street. At check-in\, attendees will receive a bag with their chocolate tasting tickets and a list of chocolate stops and activities; the bag also doubles as chocolate storage. \n  \nJAMSA is operated by volunteers\, consisting of local business owners and community members and is focused on promoting and serving local merchants as well as the growth of Jonesborough as a whole. Chocolate Fest is one of the ways JAMSA works to support locally owned businesses. Did you know that it takes 10 gallons of sap to make a pint of syrup? This is your chance to learn all about it at the 23rd Annual Maple Syrup Festival and Pancake Breakfast! Come out to discover the history\, lore\, and method of making maple syrup. See how the sap is extracted from the maple trees located throughout the grounds of the site and then watch as the sap is boiled down over a wood fired furnace until it becomes the rich\, flavorful maple syrup that you love so much. \nFrom 8am to 11am\, a pancake breakfast with delicious maple syrup from Maple Grove Farm of Afton\, Tennessee\, will allow visitors to enjoy the deliciousness of nature. Accompanying the pancakes will be bacon\, sausage\, grits\, and more. Juice\, coffee\, and milk will also be available. Be sure to arrive early and let us feed you before watching our volunteers boil the sap into maple syrup. DESCRIPTION:Jonesborough’s St. Paddy’s Festival returns on Saturday\, March 14\, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.\, bringing a full day of Celtic festivities! \nVisit with Highland Cows\, try your hand at the Highland Games\, explore local crafts\, join in on the fun run\, and enjoy live Irish music\, food\, and drinks. \nThe celebration kicks off at 11 a.m. with a St. Paddy’s Parade down Main Street\, featuring colorful floats\, marching bands\, and plenty of green. New for 2026\, the festival will feature a six-horse team of the iconic Clydesdale draft horses pulling a wagon in the parade\, bringing an unforgettable new highlight to this beloved event.\nVisitors can enjoy a meet-and-greet with Highland cows and live owls from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Representatives from Rocky Creek Highlands and Happy Hens & Highlands Farm will share information about the Highland breed and offer visitors the opportunity to brush\, pet\, and take photos with the cows. The Owl Ridge Raptor Center will also be on site\, providing an opportunity to see various owls up close and learn about the organization’s efforts to rescue and rehabilitate these birds.\nThe Appalachian Highlands Celts will host Highland Games in Jimmy Neil Smith Park from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.\, offering visitors a chance to see expert demonstrations and even try traditional highland events like the stone throw\, sheaf toss\, and archery. Kilts are encouraged.\nEverblade Academy will offer a weapons demonstration\, a gladiatorial combat show\, a shillelagh lecture\, and gladiator history lesson in Storytelling Park from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.\nLive Irish music kicks off Shamrockin’ on the Plaza with Sigean at 4 p.m. in front of the International Storytelling Center. This seven-piece band delivers a high-energy mix of traditional dance tunes and stirring ballads\, creating an authentic Irish experience. Performances include appearances at the Knoxville Irish Festival\, Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion Festival\, and Big Stone Celtic Festival.\nTake part in the Brew Fun Run beginning at the Courthouse on Main Street\, continuing to Depot Street Brewing for a complimentary small pour of beer or root beer\, and looping back to the Storytelling Center for live Irish music. Walking\, jogging\, and running are all welcome. No entry fee is required.\nThroughout the day\, enjoy bangers and mash from Main Street Café\, along with a variety of food trucks. SUMMARY:Easter Eggstravaganza
DESCRIPTION:The Town of Jonesborough will host its annual Easter Eggstravaganza on Saturday\, March 28\, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in downtown Jonesborough. Event locations include the International Storytelling Center\, Jimmy Neil Smith Park\, Jonesborough Central Christian Church and the Christopher Taylor House. \nThis year’s event will feature photos with the Easter Bunny\, face painting\, children’s crafts\, and a Touch-a-Truck experience with the Jonesborough Fire Department\, Police Department\, Street Department\, and Water Department. Additional activities include an inflatable obstacle course and a petting zoo featuring miniature horses\, sheep\, goats and rabbits. \nThe egg hunt will take place at Jimmy Neil Smith Park\, where children ages 12 and under can search for more than 5\,000 candy-filled eggs. To provide a fun and equitable experience\, the egg hunt will be divided into four age groups: 2 and under\, 3 to 5\, 6 to 8 and 9 to 12. The egg hunt schedule is as follows: ages 9 to 12 at 12:30 p.m.\, ages 6 to 8 at 1 p.m.\, ages 3 to 5 at 1:30 p.m. and ages 2 and under at 2 p.m. \nThe Jackson Theatre will host two free movies on March 28\, sponsored by Christ Church of Jonesborough. Prince of Egypt will be shown at 3 p.m.\, followed by The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion\, the Witch and the Wardrobe at 7 p.m. \nVisitors may also stop by the McKinney Center inside the Christopher Taylor Cabin for a free Easter craft. DESCRIPTION:The Town of Jonesborough Parks and Recreation Department is excited to announce its Second Annual Sensory Easter Hunt\, taking place on Saturday\, April 4\, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Lincoln Park\, located at 307 E Main St. This free community event requires no registration and is designed to provide a welcoming\, inclusive\, and sensory-friendly Easter celebration for children and families of all abilities. \nThe event will take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.\, with the Sensory Easter Egg Hunt beginning promptly at 2:30 p.m. The hunt is structured to create a calmer\, more supportive environment than traditional egg hunts. DESCRIPTION:Tractor enthusiasts from across the South will make a trip to Northeast Tennessee for the 33rd Annual Appalachian Antique Farm Show April 23-26 at the Appalachian Fairgrounds in Gray\, Tenn.\, hosted by the Tri-State Antique Power Association. \n\n\n\nIn an event that has grown to showcase hundreds of rare and popular tractors over the years\, including features from Brian Baxter with the RFDTV series Tractor Fever.  The agriculture inspired television network has featured the Appalachian Antique Farm Show and Northeast Tennessee for a number of years on the classic show dedicated to tractors\, enthusiasts and events across the United States. \n\n\n\nEach year the Appalachian Antique Farm Show is dedicated to a specific make\, model or style of tractor.  The 2026 Appalachian Antique Farm Show will feature the Farmall brand. Along with the featured tractors\, exhibits of all makes and models will include antique tractors\, steam\, gas\, hit and miss antique engines\, stationary steam engines\, threshing machines\, gristmill\, antique farm tools\, live steam saw mill\, belted equipment demonstrations and other farm related equipment. \n\n\n\n\n\nEach year the show features a specific make\, model or style of tractor.\n\n\n\n\n\nThe full weekend of activities include a flea market complete with arts and crafts\, antiques\, farm and tractor memorabilia\, commercial vendors\, new and used farm equipment parts within the swap meet area\, a quilt show and tradition inspired farm games such as a Skillet Throws and a Barn Dance. DESCRIPTION:This will be the 67th year that naturalists and those that love nature have been gathering at Roan Mountain for the Roan Mountain Spring Naturalists Rally. This spring’s rally is set to be one of the finest with evening speakers\, Ingrid Luffman and Lisa Benish\, lunchtime activities\, a lunchtime program by Cade Campbell\, a lunchtime slide show and a great variety of field trips over the entire weekend. All activities at the rally are family-friendly\, and there are a variety of difficulty levels. This rally\, and all rallies\, are sponsored by the Friends of Roan Mountain and would not be possible without many volunteers and the support of Roan Mountain State Park.\nMembers of the Friends of Roan Mountain are admitted to all weekend activities at no charge\, with the exception of meals. She has degrees in Mathematics\, Earth Sciences\, and a PhD in Geography from University of Tennessee. A transplant from Canada\, she has taught at ETSU for 28 years\, and is a founding member of the Boone Watershed Partnership\, a local non-profit that identifies and addresses water resources concerns in the Boone Watershed. Recently\, the partnership completed forest restoration work at Jacob’s Nature Park in Johnson City to eliminate hundreds of invasive plants and replace them with over 400 native plants; volunteers contributed over 800 hours to the project.\nProgram Description: \nIn September 2024\, Hurricane produced high winds and torrential rains in the NC headwaters of several TN streams\, leading to flooding that scoured channels and floodplains\, removed riparian forests\, and destroyed homes and sanitary infrastructure. When extreme weather events occur\, as a hydrologist and geoscientist\, I try to understand the nature and magnitude of the event by evaluating damage to critical infrastructure and by using data to estimate how often events of this magnitude might recur in our communities. This program describes work done by ETSU Geoscientists in the days and months following Hurricane Helene.\n\nSaturday Evening Program:\nDiscovering the Blue Ridge: Place-Based Nature Education at Blue Ridge Discovery Center\nby Lisa Benish\n \nLisa Benish is an environmental educator and the Executive Director of the Blue Ridge Discovery Center (BRDC) in southwest Virginia. With a passion for place-based learning and conservation\, she leads BRDC’s efforts to connect people of all ages to the natural world through hands-on science\, outdoor exploration\, and stewardship programming. Lisa works closely with educators\, naturalists\, and community partners to develop immersive programs that highlight the ecological richness of the Blue Ridge region\, including forests\, wetlands\, streams\, meadows\, and pollinator habitats. The Tipton-Haynes house will be open for visitors to leisurely stroll through the historic halls and rooms.
