SUMMARY:Stories 'n More
DESCRIPTION:If you’re looking for the heart of storytelling in the town that basically invented the modern revival of the art\, Stories ‘n More is where the magic happens. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHosted by the Jonesborough Storytellers Guild\, this weekly event is a staple of Tuesday nights in Tennessee’s oldest town. It’s less of a formal performance and more of a warm\, communal gathering where the oral tradition truly breathes. \n\n\nThe Atmosphere\nThe vibe is intimate and authentic. Held at the International Storytelling Center (or occasionally nearby local venues like the  McKinney Center)\, the evening feels like sitting in a very large\, very talented living room. \nWhat to Expect\n\n\nDiverse Tellers: You’ll hear from seasoned professionals who have graced national stages\, alongside guild members honing new material. \n\n\nThe “More” in the Name: While the focus is on spoken-word stories\, you’ll often find the night peppered with poetry\, acoustic music\, or personal tall tales. \n\n\nA Living Art: Unlike a recorded podcast\, these stories change based on the energy of the room. It’s interactive\, raw\, and deeply human. \n\n\nThe Details\n\n\nWhen: Every Tuesday night. \n\n\nTime: Usually kicks off at 7:00 PM. \n\n\nLocation: International Storytelling Center\, Jonesborough\, TN. \n\n\nCost: Generally\, a small donation is suggested at the door to support the Guild’s mission. \n\n\n\n\nPro Tip: Jonesborough takes its storytelling seriously\, but the Guild keeps it accessible. Whether you’re a local or just passing through\, it’s one of the most “authentic” Appalachian experiences you can find without needing to hike a trail.

A second panel of first responders representing Kingsport Fire\, Kingsport Police\, Sullivan County EMS and the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office will participate in a wing eating competition. The winning badge will take home the trophy for the year along with all the bragging rights! \n\n“We’re excited to partner once again with Eastman Credit Union to bring Wing Fling back for another year of great wings\, friendly competition\, and community fun\,” said Lara Potter\, Vice President of Visit Kingsport. “With a record-breaking 13 restaurants competing\, new experiences like the ZachBites award and the return of Battle of the Badges\, there’s never been a better time to come hungry and discover your new favorite wing.” \n\nAlthough the focus of the night is all about the wings\, there’s plenty more for attendees to enjoy. Furthermore\, the ensemble is often requested for featured performances at jazz clinics and festivals throughout the country. \nOccasionally\, the Shades of Blue marches onto home plate to perform national anthems for Chicago White Sox Major League Baseball games\, or onto center court to perform for Chicago Bulls and Milwaukee Bucks National Basketball Association games. They also pay frequent tribute to the Air Force’s musical heritage\, and have collaborated with actor Wilford Brimley on a highly acclaimed salute to Major Glenn Miller. \nWhether performing for a head of state\, before a capacity crowd in northern Wisconsin or for our troops at home and abroad\, the Shades of Blue reflects the heritage and pride of our great nation and the United States Air Force. \n  \nOur Box Office opens 2 hours before showtime. For shows not already sold out\, tickets will be available at the door on the day of show for an additional cost of $5 (+tax and service fee). BUYER BEWARE! Third party tickets (StubHub\, eTix\, VividSeats\, etc.) will NOT be honored. Tickets are available via paramountbristol.org or our Box Office ONLY.  All sales are final. Refunds and exchanges are not permitted.  Outside food and drinks are not allowed.

SUMMARY:Songwriters Circle
DESCRIPTION:2026 Dates: Monthly\, every 2nd Saturday\n\nJanuary 10\nFebruary 14\nMarch 14\nApril 11 (SHOWCASE)\nMay 9\nJune 13\nJuly 12\nAugust 8\nSeptember 12 (TBD)\nOctober 11\nNovember 14 (SHOWCASE)\nDecember 12\n\nTime: 2-5 p.m. ET\nLocation: The Learning Center\, Birthplace of Country Music Museum\nCost: Free and open to the public\, donations encouraged at quarterly showcases\nIn partnership with Songwriters of Highlands Appalachia\, the Birthplace of Country Music Museum will host a monthly Songwriters Circle every 2nd Saturday\, 2-5 p.m. ET\, in the Learning Center.  Beginners\, experienced songwriters\, and aspiring songwriters are invited to share songs\, brainstorm ideas\, and encourage each other to keep writing. There is no fee to participate.\nAt the end of each session\, the group will choose three prompts to inspire ideas for the following month. The prompts may be objects\, phrases\, feelings\, colors\, senses\, or any other topic. Writers may use those topics to help them write a song or two to share for the following session. Songwriters do not have to play an instrument in order to participate. \nSongwriters Circle is an opportunity to perform\, workshop\, and network with other artists\, with an emphasis on clarity and telling a story. The goals of the group are to encourage songwriting\, introduce songwriting shows to audiences in the region\, and enlighten the public about the craft of songwriting and its value as an art form. \nFans of music and songwriting are welcome to sit in for a listen at no cost. \n\nAbout Songwriters of Highlands Appalachia\n\nSongwriters of Highlands Appalachia is led by Mary Munsey\, a local musician and educator\, recently retired from Virginia Highlands Community College. The program offers a great deal of flexibility in its format for attendees\, with varied songwriting interests and abilities. Some of the attendees play instruments and some are curious about songwriting and the process. Lyrics can sometimes only pare up with others that play instruments and put music with the words. Some writers don’t sing\, but enjoy hearing others perform their songs. Some of the performances can be a cappella. Some members of the group write one to three songs between sessions and some write more. Sometimes as busy as life gets\, writers don’t get to write new material between meetings. We don’t pressure anyone to write\, and we don’t criticize anyone. We treat each other with respect. We don’t discuss politics\, use profanity\, or write antagonistic lyrics. \n \n\nThe focus is not on the beauty of the voice or skill of the instrumentation\, but the clearness of the pronunciation and the effect of the song. We work on making sure the audience can hear every word. We are not professional musicians but we are creators of musical stories and that is the beauty of it. The sessions are open to anyone visiting the museum. Genres are not specified. Songs can be instrumental\, folk\, country\, bluegrass\, Americana\, blues\, humorous\, jazz\, R&B\, electronic\, and even pop\, to name a few. Writers are allowed to bring CDs for sale and to accept tips after performances. \nAs an extension of this program\, each quarter we invite songwriters to attend “Writers-in-the-Round” or WITR concerts. WITR consists of three to five writers together in a circle or on stage. Each writer introduces themselves\, gives the title of their song\, and then sings it with or without accompaniment. Discussion will follow concerning the origins of the song\, how they wrote it\, and the song’s inspiration\, along with any questions from the audience. \n\nTo learn more about Songwriters of Highlands Appalachia\, visit the website at HighlandsAppalachia.org.

SUMMARY:Bristol Sessions Nights
DESCRIPTION:BRISTOL\, Tenn. – Organizers of Bristol Sessions Nights: Road to 100 announced today that tickets for the yearlong cultural series celebrating the 100th anniversary of the 1927 Bristol Sessions will now cost $27 per event\, a move designed to make the experience accessible to a wider audience as Bristol prepares for one of the most significant milestones in American music history. \n\nThe reduced ticket price is made possible through support from cornerstone sponsors including Tennessee Hills Distillery\, the Tennessee Entertainment Commission\, and additional regional partners committed to expanding access to the series while preserving its intentionally intimate format. Attendance for each event will remain capped at 100 guests. \n\nA full-series passport covering all twelve events is now available for $300. \n\nBeginning May 22\, 2026\, and continuing through April 2027\, Bristol Sessions Nights: Road to 100 will guide audiences through the music\, stories\, and cultural legacy born from the 1927 Bristol Sessions\, recognized by the U.S. Congress as the single most important event in the history of country music. Those original sessions launched the careers of The Carter Family and Jimmie Rodgers and helped shape a genre that continues to influence American culture nearly a century later. \n\n“Today\, Tennessee’s music industry is a globally recognized brand generating billons annually to the state’s economy\,” said Tennessee Entertainment Commission Executive Director Bob Raines. “The Tennessee Entertainment Commission is honored to be supporting the Bristol Sessions Nights series and lead up to the 100th year celebration of the big bang of country music.” \n\nHosted inside the historic L.C. King Building in downtown Bristol\, the series is designed as an immersive storytelling experience combining live music\, history\, conversation\, and regional culture in an intimate setting. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. with programming beginning at 7:30 p.m. on the third Friday of each month. \n\n“As we approach the 100th anniversary of the Bristol Sessions\, we recognize that this isn’t just something to celebrate; it’s something to elevate\, and that’s what Bristol Sessions Nights: Road to 100 is all about\,” said Bristol\, Tennessee Mayor Vince Turner. “These event nights are also an opportunity to lift up our local businesses; our restaurants\, shops\, and other small business owners who are such an essential part of what makes Bristol special. Come early for shopping and dining\, stay for the unforgettable music experience\, and stick around after to experience everything our downtown has to offer.” \n\nThe twelve-night series unfolds in three acts\, each exploring a different chapter in the evolution and impact of the Bristol Sessions: \n\nAct I: The Recordings (May–July 2026) – Immersive origin stories revisiting 1927 and the birth of country music.\nAct II: The Evolution (August–December 2026) – How Bristol’s spark shaped bluegrass\, songwriting\, and mountain music traditions across a century.\nAct III: The Road to 100 (January–April 2027) – Rising energy\, new voices\, and expanded programming leading into the centennial.\n\n\nThe journey culminates in May 2027 with the inaugural Bristol Sessions Festival\, a Memorial Day Weekend celebration commemorating 100 years since the recordings that changed music forever. \n\nThe full schedule of nights is as follows: \n\n\n\n\nNight\n\nDate\n\nTitle\n\nTheme\n\n\n\n1\n\nMay 22\, 2026\n\nThe First Take\n\nSeries Kickoff / Songwriter Round\n\n\n\n2\n\nJun 19\, 2026\n\nThe Carter Sessions\n\nCarter Family Legacy\n\n\n\n3\n\nJul 17\, 2026\n\nThe Blue Yodel\n\nJimmie Rodgers & Early Roots\n\n\n\n4\n\nAug 21\, 2026\n\nA True Taste of Tennessee\n\nFull Sensory Journey of Local Music\, Food/Spirits Pairings\n\n\n\n5\n\nSep 18\, 2026\n\nMountain Songs\n\nAppalachian Roots Showcase\n\n\n\n6\n\nOct 16\, 2026\n\nThe Pickers\n\nBluegrass & Instrumental Virtuosity\n\n\n\n7\n\nNov 20\, 2026\n\nHer Song\n\nWomen of Country Music\n\n\n\n8\n\nDec 18\, 2026\n\nThe Holiday Sessions\n\nAcoustic Holiday Heritage\n\n\n\n9\n\nJan 15\, 2027\n\nNew Voices\n\nNext-Generation Tennessee Songwriters\n\n\n\n10\n\nFeb 19\, 2027\n\nOutlaws & Renegades\n\nOutlaw & Modern Country\n\n\n\n11\n\nMar 19\, 2027\n\nThe Echoes\n\nBristol’s Lasting Impact\n\n\n\n12\n\nApr 16\, 2027\n\nThe Gathering\n\nPre-Finale Celebration\n\n\n\n★\n\nMay 28-29\, 2027\n\nThe 100th Session\n\nCentennial Festival / Grand Finale\n\n\n\n\n  \nAdditional details\, including ticket information\, are available at bristolsessionsfestival.com. \n  \nAbout Bristol Sessions Nights: Road to 100 \nBristol Sessions Nights: Road to 100 is a 12-night cultural series produced by the City of Bristol\, Tennessee in partnership with the ETSU Appalachian Music Collective\, the ETSU Department of Appalachian Studies\, and Tennessee Hills Distillery.
