SUMMARY:StoryTown Radio Show: Salute to Veterans
DESCRIPTION:StoryTown Radio Show will celebrate stories of local veterans in a special “Salute to Veterans” production on Monday\, July 24 at 7 p.m. at the McKinney Center\, located 103 Franklin Avenue. \n\nThis annual production brings to life the experiences that veterans have shared with StoryTown during one-on-one interviews and during the McKinney Center’s “Listening Days” which happen throughout the year. \n\n“This year’s show includes more Vietnam-era stories\, which some of our older veterans are now sharing\,” says the show’s writer\, Jules Corriere. \n\n“When I first started doing the radio show a little over a decade ago\, we were telling mostly World War II era stories\, with some of our veterans sharing their experiences for the first time in many years. Our Vietnam era veterans were still reluctant. But now\, many of them are ready. I’m so very honored to share these important stories\,” Corriere continues. \n\nThe writer later explained that these episodes are close to her heart. “My father passed away from lung cancer before he turned seventy. He shared a couple of his stories\, but not many. While the country now treats our veterans with compassion and respect\, he sadly didn’t get to experience this kind of gratitude. For me\, this show is personal. It’s my way of saying\, ‘Thank You’ to every single person\, like my dad\, who might never have heard those words about their service.” \n\nJoining Corriere and the cast this month will be the Jonesborough Novelty Band\, who will lead the audience in two sing-along segments in the show. Words to their (mostly) patriotic tunes will be printed in the show’s program\, so everyone can sing-along with the band and the cast\, much like they do for the annual Christmas production. \n\nCorriere also shared her excitement of including sketches and scenes from members of the McKinney Center’s Writing Group\, adding that several members of the group have been studying the format of writing for radio\, and consistently producing material for the monthly productions. \n\nSome of the writers who have been sharing scenes that have been produced over the past year include Elizabeth Hunter\, Ryan Budds\, Catherine Yael-Serota\, Anni Zimmerman\, and Laurie Herlich. Some of their work will be featured in the July production. \n\nFor tickets\, visit Jonesborough.com/tickets or call the Jonesborough Visitors Center at 423-753-1010. \n\n### \nAbout the McKinney Center at Booker T. Washington: The mission of the McKinney Center at Booker T. Washington is to provide a comprehensive program through Jonesborough’s Mary B. Martin Program for the Arts which teaches various art skills to all participants through a quality program of instruction open to all segments of Jonesborough’s population. SUMMARY:Niswonger Performing Arts Center: Diamond Rio
DESCRIPTION:Diamond Rio\n\n\n\n\nIt’s a rare feat for an artist to reach the No. 1 position on Billboard magazine’s chart with a very first single. Diamond Rio did just that in 1991 with the hit song “Meet in the Middle.” Country radio and record buyers enthusiastically responded to the group’s catchy melodies\, perfectly executed three-part harmony singing\, and first-rate instrumental work so smooth that it virtually conceals the formidable skills of the individual players. \nDiamond Rio has sold more than 10 million albums\, won a GRAMMY® Award\, a Dove Award\, six Vocal Group of the Year wins (CMA and ACM)\, two Greatest Hit albums\, earned five multi-week No. 1 singles\, 22 Top 10 singles\, three certified Platinum and five Gold albums\, and released an autobiography. The band is also known for their hits “How Your Love Makes Me Feel\,” “One More Day\,” “Beautiful Mess\,” “Unbelievable\,” “In A Week or Two\,” and more.

SUMMARY:Niswonger Performing Arts Center: The Four Tops
DESCRIPTION:The Four Tops\n\n\n\n\nTheir first Motown hit\, “Baby I Need Your Loving” in 1964 quickly turned The Four Tops into stars. Their songs\, soulful and bittersweet\, were across-the-board successes. The No. 1 R&B and pop smash\, “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie\, Honey Bunch)\,” is one of Motown’s longest-running chart toppers. It was quickly followed by “It’s The Same Old Song\,” “Reach Out I’ll Be There” and “Standing in the Shadows of Love.” \nThe Four Tops is one of the few groups to have hits in three consecutive decades. The 70s produced a string of hits with “Ain’t No Woman (Like the One I’ve Got)\,” “Keeper Of The Castle\,” “Are You Man Enough\,” and “Midnight Flower.” \nAfter moving to Casablanca Records in 1980\, the group hit No. 1 again with “When She Was My Girl.” With 24 Top 40 Pop hits to their credit\, the Four Tops were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.

SUMMARY:Niswonger Performing Arts Center: Switchfoot
DESCRIPTION:Switchfoot: “The Beautiful Letdown Tour”\n\n\n\n\n2023 marks the 20th anniversary of Switchfoot’s seminal album\, The Beautiful Letdown. The triple-Platinum record included the chart-topping hits\, “Meant To Live” and “Dare You To Move\,” and changed the lives of the band members and a generation the world over. \nDrummer Chad Butler recalls\, “Looking back\, I realize the album was aptly titled.  The Beautiful Letdown embraced a human story equally full of highs and lows.” He said\, “The journey reminded us why we started playing music in the first place. It united us and gave us a deep appreciation for each other and the people that showed up to sing with us.” \nTo celebrate the release of The Beautiful Letdown is a journey on the road to play the album front to back for the first time ever.

SUMMARY:Old Butler Day
DESCRIPTION:What began decades ago as a reunion of those who once lived in and near the town of Old Butler\, is now a time of honoring the resilience of the people who lived through one of the darkest periods of Johnson County’s history. On Saturday\, October 7\, 2023\, almost 75 years since the waters all but erased the town of Butler\, locals and visitors will gather to remember its past while celebrating the vibrant future of this beautiful area of the state. \nOld Butler Day\, a family-friendly festival sponsored annually by the Butler Ruritan\, will be hosted on the grounds of the Babe Curtis Park. Festival attendees will enjoy great food\, music\, vendors and experience life in Old Butler through tours at the Museum of Butler and the W.S. Stout store located at the park. As visitors tour the museum\, the historical exhibits bring to life the early days of Old Butler and depict the extraordinary effort in relocating this small town\, showing why it is known as “the town that would not drown”.
