SUMMARY:30th Annual Garden Tour & Tea
DESCRIPTION:Garden lovers from across the region will gather in Jonesborough for the 30th Annual Garden Tour & Tea on Saturday\, June 6. This self-guided walking tour through Tennessee’s Oldest Town offers a rare glimpse into some of the area’s most stunning gardens. \n  \nThe Garden Tour runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.\, with a tea party from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Registration is required at the Jonesborough Visitors Center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tickets go on sale Saturday\, April 1\, for $20 and can be purchased online at jonesborough.com/tickets or by calling 423.753.1010. Tickets are limited\, so early reservations are encouraged. \n  \nThe Marketplace Vendors will be set up at the International Storytelling Center Plaza and the Jonesborough Visitors Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.\, featuring a variety of garden-inspired items\, including yard art\, plants\, tools\, handcrafted goods\, and garden-style jewelry. \n  \nThis cherished event is hosted by The Schubert Club and Tuesday Garden Club\, with support from the Northeast Tennessee Master Gardeners and the Southern Appalachian Plant Society. DESCRIPTION:The Greene County Partnership\, in partnership with the Cherokee National Forest and Friends of the Cherokee National Forest\, is proud to present the 3rd Annual Firefly Festival. This is an immersive\, nature-based experience celebrating one of the region’s most enchanting natural phenomena.\n\nThis year’s festival will take place over four evenings: May 29 and 30 and June 5 and 6. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore designated forest areas during peak firefly viewing season while learning about forest ecology\, conservation\, and the unique species that make this landscape special.\n\nTo protect sensitive habitats and ensure a high-quality visitor experience\, attendance is limited and tickets will be awarded through a lottery system. The ticket lottery will open on February 23 and remain open until May 1. Lottery winners will be notified via email with additional event details and instructions.\n\nThe Firefly Festival reflects a collaborative commitment to conservation\, education\, and responsible outdoor recreation. More information about programming and logistics will be shared with ticket recipients closer to the event dates.

DESCRIPTION:Overview & Highlights\n\nThis is for you if: You want to develop a more comprehensive foundation and greater proficiency in wilderness survival skills over two days. \nDespite our best efforts we may find ourselves lost or injured in the backcountry where help or rescue is not immediately available and all we have to rely on is our wits\, training and attitude to make it through safely. This comprehensive and fun two-day course goes into greater detail on the essential concepts of wilderness survival that will help you stack the odds in your favor including preparation\, prevention\, attitude\, shelter\, firecraft\, craftmanship\, water procurement\, knot tying\, aidless navigation and rescue signaling.  Most survival situations resolve within the first 72 hours so\, in this course\, our focus is on providing practical\, real-world skills to use if lost or injured in a wilderness setting to help you find your way to safety by self-rescue or rescue by others. Our two-day class provides participants with significantly more time than our one-day class to practice and gain proficiency in hands-on skills such as shelter building\, knots\, knife use and fire making. \nOur survival classes are held in the Cherokee National Forest and Appalachian Highlands of Northeast Tennessee\, with primary locations in the Erwin and Hampton areas.  Upon meeting our group\, we will make the easy short hike to camp (less than ~1/4 mile) and embark on a fun-filled\, empowering and memorable experience. Lead instructor is NOLI founder and former Ranger-qualified Army officer Scott Fisher who has been teaching wilderness skills for over 30 years. All equipment provided. Suitable both for those with and without experience. Minimum age is 10.  Specific meeting location varies by class but all sites are within 30 minutes of Johnson City. To become truly proficient requires the right training and consistent exposure to the knowledge\, fundamentals and hands-on practice that make these skills second nature.  Our comprehensive 4-day Wilderness Survival Immersive goes into the greatest detail on the essential concepts of wilderness survival and provides participants with the best opportunity to develop essential skills in a supportive and fun environment where your instructor is there to help you learn and succeed. The course combines the content of our Wilderness Survival and Wilderness Survival 201 courses and gives participants several consecutive days to hone their abilities and come away with lasting proficiencies and an unforgettable experience. \nMost survival situations resolve within the first 72 hours\, so our focus in this course is on providing practical\, real-world skills to use if lost or injured in a wilderness setting to help you find your way to safety by self-rescue or rescue by others. Topics include preparation\, prevention\, attitude\, shelter\, firecraft\, knife use\, craftmanship\, water procurement\, knot tying\, aidless navigation\, rescue signaling\, cordage making\, flora and fauna.  This course affords participants with significant time for hands-on training during practical exercises and scenarios where participants are challenged to use skills they have learned in simulated conditions. On the third day participants will build their own shelter and have the opportunity to sleep in it that night.
