SUMMARY:Christmas in Olde Jonesborough
DESCRIPTION:The Town of Jonesborough will host Christmas in Olde Jonesborough\, a month-long holiday series of events and activities. The series will kick off the afternoon of Friday\, November 29 in downtown Jonesborough with events held the following four Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.\n\nSanta will also be on site in his sleigh beside the Washington County Courthouse each Saturday for pictures and visits with children.  Attendees are encouraged to bring letters to Santa and drop them off in the mailbox by Wednesday\, December 18 and receive a reply from the jolly old man himself. Free gift wrapping will also be offered inside the International Storytelling Center during the Saturday events for any purchases made in downtown Jonesborough.\n\nGet an early start supporting small businesses with Shop Small Friday on November 29 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. The annual Lighting of the Tree ceremony takes place at 6 p.m. Christmas-themed programming will lead up to the official lighting of the Fraser Fir tree beside the Washington County Courthouse downtown.\n\nEvents continue with Whoville and Small Business Saturday on Saturday\, November 30 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Grab shop small ‘swag’ at the welcome tent next to the Washington County Courthouse. Take a photo with the Grinch and get a “grinch treat.” Enjoy a reading of a classic holiday story from the Heritage Alliance at the Chester Inn Museum.\n\nChristmas in Olde Jonesborough continues on Saturday\, December 7 with Doggone Christmas. Attendees are encouraged to bring their pets for paw-some pictures with Santa. The costume contest takes place at 1 p.m. including Ugliest Christmas Dog Sweater\, Best Holiday Costume\, and Pet/Owner Lookalike. Donations will also be accepted for the Appalachian Highlands Humane Society.\n\nSanta’s Christmas Village takes place on Saturday\, December 14 throughout Historic Jonesborough\, starting at the Jonesborough Visitors Center\, located at 117 Boone Street. Participants can pick up an event program at the Jonesborough Visitors Center. This event includes crafts\, children’s activities\, Santa Mart\, games and more.\nThe much-anticipated Jonesborough Lighted Christmas Parade will take place that evening starting at 6 p.m. This year’s parade theme is A Nutcracker Christmas. The parade will travel through the festively decorated historic district from Boone Street to Main Street.\n\nThe series wraps up on Saturday\, December 21 with the Christmas Church Tour. SUMMARY:Allandale Mansion Christmas Tours
DESCRIPTION:The holiday season will soon be upon us. Lights will be strung; stockings hung\, and Christmas trees will shine in homes all across the Model City. A great way to embrace the Christmas spirit is to participate in one of Allandale Mansion’s long-standing traditions. \nThe Allandale Mansion Christmas Tours will take place on December 7 (from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.) and on December 8 (from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.). Tickets will be available online\, at the door and are priced as follows: \nAges 12 and up: $5 (cash only)\nChildren under 12: Free\nEvery year volunteers spend the better part of a week decorating the mansion – both inside and out – for Christmas. Typically\, every room of the mansion features a Christmas tree and is decorated with a theme. \nThe Christmas tours are self-guided and normally take around 30 minutes to an hour. The mansion will have volunteers on hand throughout the house to answer any questions about Allandale and its history. \n“We’re opening our doors once again\, like we do every year\, and inviting the public inside to enjoy our elegant and stunning decorations\,” said Allandale Mansion Curator Rod Gemayel. “If you’re looking for a family-friendly activity to help get you in the Christmas spirit\, then please visit the mansion next month.” \nCookies and hot cider will be offered on both days. Harpist Martha Painter will be performing on December 7 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. while Santa Claus himself will pay the mansion a visit on December 8 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. \nFor the first time\, tickets are available for advance purchase online.
