SUMMARY:Vernon Dalhart: First Country Music Star
DESCRIPTION:The Jackson Theatre will present Vernon Dalhart: First Country Music Star on Friday\, April 17 at 7:00pm\, in partnership with the International Storytelling Center. This special evening of words and music celebrates one of the most influential recording artists of the 1920s and 1930s.\n\nVernon Dalhart was the first artist to record a million-selling country hit with the two-sided 78 RPM disc featuring “The Wreck of the Old ’97” and “The Prisoner’s Song.” Both recordings are enshrined in the Grammy Hall of Fame\, and Dalhart was later inducted into both the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. A prolific artist by any standard\, he made more than 4\,000 recordings between 1916 and 1939.\n\nDespite his massive impact\, Dalhart’s legacy has often been overlooked. Many legendary performers\, including Dolly Parton\, Marty Robbins\, Johnny Cash\, Willie Nelson\, Doc Watson\, Bill Monroe\, and Mac Wiseman\, have covered songs first recorded by Dalhart\, helping to carry his influence through generations of American music.\n\nDrawing on five years of research\, music historian Dr. Ted Olson will share the story of Dalhart’s diverse career and explore why his contributions have faded from the spotlight. Jack Hinshelwood\, a multi-instrumentalist and singer\, will provide the live soundtrack\, performing faithful renditions of classics such as “Wreck of the Old ’97\,” “The Prisoner’s Song\,” “Home on the Range\,” “Jesse James\,” “The Big Rock Candy Mountains\,” “My Blue Ridge Mountain Home\,” and more songs that helped shape early country music.\nThis event is part of the Jackson Theatre’s ongoing collaboration with the International Storytelling Center\, highlighting shared programming rooted in storytelling and music.\n\nTickets are $15 in advance and $20 day of show. Tickets and more information are available at thejacksontheatre.com.\n\n#####

SUMMARY:Barter Theatre: A Facility for Living
DESCRIPTION:February 8 – March 31\nBarter Stage II \n\n\n“Amusing\, entertaining\, and life affirming; the Boomers Generation will not go down without a fight!”\nA comedy by Katie Forgette\nThe Golden Girls meets One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest in the hilarious and possibly disturbing story of what life may be like in the not-so-distant future. For the residents of Federal Nursing Home #273\, a penitentiary that has been converted to a senior center\, every day is a monotonous cycle of pills\, old Ronald Reagan movies\, and mandatory bedtimes\, all overseen by the killjoy head nurse who has embraced her inner Nurse Ratched. When a new resident arrives to shake things up\, this band of misfits hatch an outrageous plan to break all the rules and in the process rediscover purpose and dignity in the face of a system mightily stacked against them. \nPhotos\n\n\n\n\n\nVideos\n\n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n\n\nShowtimes\n\n\n\nThu\nFebruary 8\n2:00 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nThu\nFebruary 8\n7:30 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nFri\nFebruary 9\n8:00 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nSat\nFebruary 10\n2:00 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nSat\nFebruary 10\n8:00 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nSun\nFebruary 11\n3:00 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nWed\nFebruary 14\n2:00 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nWed\nFebruary 14\n7:30 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nThu\nFebruary 15\n2:00 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nThu\nFebruary 15\n7:30 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nFri\nFebruary 16\n8:00 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nSat\nFebruary 17\n2:00 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nSat\nFebruary 17\n8:00 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nSun\nFebruary 18\n3:00 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nTue\nFebruary 20\n7:30 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nWed\nFebruary 21\n2:00 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nThu\nFebruary 22\n2:00 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nThu\nFebruary 22\n7:30 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nFri\nFebruary 23\n8:00 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nThu\nMarch 1\n2:00 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nThu\nMarch 1\n7:30 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nSat\nMarch 3\n2:00 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nSat\nMarch 3\n8:00 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nSun\nMarch 4\n3:00 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nThu\nMarch 8\n2:00 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nThu\nMarch 8\n7:30 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nFri\nMarch 9\n8:00 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nSat\nMarch 10\n2:00 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nSat\nMarch 10\n8:00 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nSun\nMarch 11\n3:00 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nThu\nMarch 15\n2:00 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nThu\nMarch 15\n7:30 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nFri\nMarch 16\n8:00 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nSat\nMarch 17\n2:00 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nSat\nMarch 17\n8:00 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nSun\nMarch 18\n3:00 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nThu\nMarch 22\n2:00 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nThu\nMarch 22\n7:30 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nFri\nMarch 23\n8:00 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nSun\nMarch 25\n3:00 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nWed\nMarch 28\n2:00 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nThu\nMarch 29\n2:00 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nThu\nMarch 29\n7:30 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nFri\nMarch 30\n8:00 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nSat\nMarch 31\n2:00 pm\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nSat\nMarch 31\n8:00 pm\nBUY TICKETS
