SUMMARY:Chasing Portraits\, documentary film
DESCRIPTION:Elizabeth Rynecki’s new film tells the story of her two-decade quest to find – and share with the world – her great-grandfather’s works of art that illustrate pre-war Polish/Jewish life. With the German occupation of Warsaw imminent\, Moshe Rynecki distributed about 800 paintings to people he trusted for safekeeping. After the war\, his widow was only able to recover 120 of them. Q&A\, reception with filmmaker to follow. For more information\, contact Kristi Smith at 423-439-8587.

SUMMARY:Paramount Bristol: John Andersen
DESCRIPTION:AN EVENING WITH JOHN ANDERSON – ACOUSTIC – WITH ELVIE SHANE\n\n\nWEBSITE\n\n\nTo accommodate an unforeseen change in his touring schedule\, John Andersons September 7th appearance at Paramount Bristol is rescheduled to Sunday\, November 4th\, at 7PM. Doors will open at 6PM. \nAward-winning singer-songwriter John Anderson has one of the most instantly recognizable voices in the history of country music. Anderson notched his first major hit in 1980 with Billy Jo Shaver’s “I’m Just an Old Chunk of Coal (But I’m Gonna Be a Diamond Someday).” Two years later came the instant hit “Swingin’” and the classic “Wild and Blue.” A stream of hits followed\, including “She Just Started Liking Cheatin’ Songs\,” “Your Lying Blue Eyes\,” “Seminole Wind\,” “Straight Tequila Night\,” and “Money in the Bank.” Though he would never compare himself to his heroes\, the fact is\, John Anderson is now the standard-bearer for traditional country music\, of the 100 Proof variety. \nAnderson’s Country Music Hall of Fame-worthy career has produced 23 albums\, more than 60 Billboard singles (20 reaching the Top 10)\, and a wealth of industry awards. His latest album\, Goldmine\, released 40 years after his debut hit\, proves that there’s still a lot of gold in John Anderson. Rolling Stone Magazine recognized Goldmine as one of its “40 Best Country Albums of 2015\,” an honor aspired to by young artists the world over. Anderson has made his home in Smithville\, TN\, for more than 30 years. \nThe opening act is Elvie Shane\, “gospel-born and southern rock bred\, a little country blues mixed with a whole lot of soul.” If his name rings a bell\, you might have seen Elvie as a featured contestant in the final season of American Idol where his perfect pitch and deep vocals wowed the judges. \n\n\nVenue Information:\nParamount Bristol\n518 State Street\nBristol\, TN\, 37620\nhttps://www.paramountbristol.org

SUMMARY:James Gregory
DESCRIPTION:For decades\, the unforgettable caricature of veteran comedian James Gregory has stood grinning; his shirt untucked\, his arms outstretched\, a carefree welcome to a down-home\, hilarious comedy experience. \nThe James Gregory show turns the clock back to a time when life was simpler; to a better time\, before the death of common sense; a time when people sat on the front porch and actually talked to each other without a cell phone in their ear. \nWe welcome Gregory back to the stage for an evening of non-stop laughter with a wry sense of the absurd\, a Southern accent and universal story-telling. The ridiculous\, the common and sometimes even the simplest events all become hilarious in the hands of this master storyteller and world-class comedian.

SUMMARY:Bob Miller Zips to 100
DESCRIPTION:Join us Monday\, October 29\, at 2 p.m. at Bays Mountain Park to celebrate longtime Kingsport resident Bob Miller’s 100th birthday! \nBob Miller first took to the skies in an open cockpit biplane at the age of 12. Just shy of eight decades later\, he’s preparing to fly again—this time by zip line. \nOn his birthday for the past several years\, Bob has donned a helmet and harness and climbed the 28-foot cargo net that leads to our Flying Squirrel zip line. Each year he’s broken his own record of oldest person to ride the zip line\, but this October marks a momentous occasion. \nMiller was born on October 29\, 1918. That means that this month\, when Miller flies once again down the 310-foot zip line\, he’ll be ringing in his 100th birthday one year after Kingsport did! \nWe’ll cheer Bob on as he and a few other notable Kingsport citizens zip through the trees. Come out and celebrate with us.
