Trick-or-treating takes place throughout downtown Jonesborough. There will also be games\, activities and contests. \nHocus Pocus’ Sanderson Sisters will be at the Christopher Taylor Cabin provided by JRT Experiences. Attendees can take photos and tour the decorated cabin. \nThe costume contest starts at 7:30 p.m. in front of the Courthouse sponsored by Food City of Jonesborough. The contest will have several age groups and a group category. There is no registration required. \nParking will be available at the Jonesborough Elementary School with a shuttle to the Jonesborough Visitors Center. Parking is $5 per car with free shuttle rides available back and forth. All proceeds benefit the Davy Crockett Band Boosters. \nAlong with other Halloween activities\, the Town of Jonesborough will host the Jack-o-lantern Drive Thru. The Kingsport Farmers Market’s mission is to provide a vibrant\, diverse market place for local and regional farmers and artisans to sell their products to the Kingsport community. \nAbout the City of Kingsport \nFounded in 1917\, the City of Kingsport (pop. 55\,400) is located on the Tennessee-Virginia border at the crossroads of I-81 and I-26 near the geographic center of the eastern U.S. The city is widely known as a planned community\, designed by renowned city planner John Nolen and wrapping around the foot of Bays Mountain – a 3\,750-acre park\, nature preserve\, planetarium and observatory. SUMMARY:19th Century American Mourning Rules\, Customs\, and Symbolism
DESCRIPTION:Join the Heritage Alliance and Chester Inn State Historic Site and Museum as we welcome Roberta Pipitone for her presentation\, “19th Century American Mourning Rules\, Customs\, and Symbolism” at 6:30 pm on Thursday\, October 20th. Ms. Pipitone was a theatre teacher for 30 years\, but she has been a collector and researcher of all things mourning for forty years. She also plans to bring items to accompany her presentation\, including jewelry\, post-mortem photos\, and mourning pieces displayed in American Victorian homes. This presentation will be in-person at the International Storytelling Center\, located next door to the Chester Inn Museum. This presentation will also be available via livestream on the Chester Inn’s Facebook page. It is presented by the Heritage Alliance and produced independently of the International Storytelling Center. It is free and open to the public! \n\nThis project is funded under an agreement with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation\, Tennessee Historical Commission.
