Owned and operated by Mohsin and Katlin Kazmi\, this food truck is anything but ordinary. Each dish is curated to combine the comforting elements of the foods Katlin and Mohsin grew up with as kids. \nThe idea for The Pakalachian began with the blending of two cultures in marriage. Katlin and Mohsin met while in college at Virginia Tech. They married and moved to the golden rod and lightning bugs of Abingdon in 2014. Making similar meals for family and friends in their kitchen\, the idea to start a food truck began to emerge. After establishing how to share the food with the rest of the region\, the Kazmi’s started with an empty 1996 step van and built the food truck from the ground up. \nThe truck supports many sustainable practices as well. Mohsin and Katlin source all produce locally and have a goal of being 100% locally sourced by 2020. The menu for the truck is subject to change seasonally and from visit to visit\, based on availability of ingredients. They serve meals in environmentally friendly containers\, compost kitchen waste from food preparation\, recycle empty cans and bottles\, maintain a “no waste” mentality\, and hope to have solar panels powering much of their equipment in the future. \nSouthwest Virginia Salutes Our Veterans Dedication\nJoin Friends of Southwest Virginia to dedicate the new I-81 Interstate a Flag and Flagpole that will shine SWVA’s love and respect for America on a daily basis. The support of the Abingdon Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1994 and Auxiliary makes this event possible. \nFor more information and to stay up-to-date\, subscribe to the Friends of Southwest Virginia Partner Newsletter and “Like” Friends of Southwest Virginia on Facebook.\n\n###

SUMMARY:Queen's "A Night at the Opera" featuring Marc Martel
DESCRIPTION:THE BLACK JACKET SYMPHONY PRESENTS Queen’s “A Night at the Opera” featuring Marc Martel\n$38 plus applicable taxes and fees / There is no member discount for this event. \n\nTICKETS  (SOLD OUT) Fri\, March 15\, 2019 @ Paramount Bristol Doors: 7:00 pm / Show: 8:00 pm\nTICKETS Fri\, March 22\, 2019 @ Paramount Bristol Doors: 7:00 pm / Show: 8:00 pm\n\nPublic ticket sales begin December 21 at 12:00 pm. Join as a PARAMOUNTY level member with Early Advantage Ticketing and get yours now (members log in here then click here to purchase tickets)! \nAfter 8 different classic rock albums recreated in concert at the Paramount\, this is our first Black Jacket Symphony encore – but for good reason. Black Jacket’s “A Night at the Opera” concert features a phenomenal talent on the Freddie Mercury vocals\, Mark Martel. Martel is receiving widespread acclaim due to the November 2018 release of the major motion picture BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY\, about Queen and lead singer Freddie Mercury. Martel recorded the song voice overs for actor Ramey Malek\, who plays the Mercury character. Absolutely no voice in the world comes as close to Mercury’s iconic sound than that of Mark Martel\, who recorded the soundtrack at Abbey Road Studios in London. \nThe performance is separated into two sets. The first set features the album being recreated as a true symphonic piece. The second set features a selection of the artist’s “greatest hits.” Both feature the high level of musicianship you have come to expect from Black Jacket Symphony productions accompanied by all the bells and whistles of a major rock and roll show.

SUMMARY:Jonesborough: Arboretum Education
DESCRIPTION:Jonesborough Hosts Arboretum Education Session \nThe Town of Jonesborough maintains a state-certified\, level-2 arboretum\, in the heart of the Town.  Named “Ardinna Woods” after the Celtic deity venerated as guardian of forests in ancient times\, the arboretum hosts more than seventy tree species native to the Southern Appalachian region and a multitude of native shrubs and wildflowers which serve as hosts for eastern region butterflies. \nVolunteers who help maintain the arboretum adopt single or multiple plots throughout the year come from a wide variety of backgrounds\, some with prior experience in gardening and arboretum expertise\, some without.  All of them share a desire to learn more about native species plants and the important role they play in the environment. \nWhen in season\, the arboretum boasts blooms from the Tennessee Coneflower and fall-blooming Hearts-A-Bustin’ to Salvia and Anise-scented Sage.  These are just a few examples of plants in the arboretum that play an important role to pollinators such as bees\, beetles and butterflies. \nIndividuals who adopt a plot and work in the Arboretum have the added bonus of being able to take arboretum plants home as existing plants are thinned out in the plots.  Some of the native species plants\, despite being native to this area\, can be difficult to locate in local nurseries. \nLate winter/early spring cleanout is beginning and the Arboretum is looking for volunteers to adopt a plot for the 2019 calendar year.  There will be an educational session and volunteer recruitment meeting for those interested in participating this season on March 16th at 9 am at the Historic Jonesborough Visitors Center.  Lunch will be provided. \nThose wishing to attend an education session and learn about volunteering can sign up on Facebook at the Ardinna Woods Arboretum page or by contacting Rachel Conger at rachelc@jonesboroughtn.org. \n  \n
