SUMMARY:Creative Souls
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \n \n  \nMeet the Bonnie Kate Players\nTake part in a simpler Christmas evening\nEnjoy Light Refreshments from Riverside Taphouse\nLearn more about the Theatre Arts in Elizabethton\nDecember’s Creative Souls meeting will be all about reclaiming the simpler joys of Christmas. Members of the Bonnie Kate Community Theatre will be performing prose and poetry\, both humorous and heartfelt\, about the season.\n\nWe will be joined by Roxanne McDaniel\, who will be accompanying us on the mandolin or ukulele\, as we lead the group in singing some old fashioned Christmas carols\, interspersed throughout our readings.\n\nThis performance is perfect for anyone who may have lost sight of “a tender Tennessee Christmas” amid all the stress and commercialism so prevalent at this time of year. Folks can come to listen and soak it all in\, or\, come prepared to sing along with us\, as we present “Christmas Past…A Celebration of the Season.”\n\nWe’ll also share a little bit about the BKCT\, and how they can get involved if they’re interested in the performing arts.

SUMMARY:Paramount Bristol Presents Cherry Poppin’ Daddies Christmas Canteen
DESCRIPTION:Fri\, December 15\, 2023\nDoors: 6:30 pm / Show: 7:30 pm\n$36.04 – $81.50 (prices include all applicable fees and taxes ) / Members save at least $5 per ticket\n\n\nPurchase tickets at Cherry Poppin’ Daddies Christmas Canteen – Shows and Events – Paramount Bristol\n\n\nIn the past few years Cherry Poppin’ Daddies have become the kind of band that you would want to book if you were throwing a soiree at the Gatsby mansion. Penning elegant\, lush\, pitch perfect arrangements of much of the great American songbook\, from Cole Porter to Frank Sinatra\, the Daddies have surprised many- likely familiar with them from the early 90’s- whose limited exposure to the band undoubtedly consists of an image of spray painted vans careening across the US as an iconoclastic\, misfit part of an already marginalized punk/ska scene.\n\nIn fact the Daddies have of late put together a number of excellent swing/ jazz sit down theatre type shows\, each tailored to a different era of swing music: a “Jazz Age Lawn Party” consisting of roaring 20’s and Cotton Club Era material\, a swanky “Live at the Sands” type tribute to the Rat Pack\, and a World War 2 “Christmas Canteen” show that is part Tiki\, part Benny Goodman and comes across like a radio broadcast from Guadalcanal circa 1942. The sheer craftsmanship and professional attention to detail of these performances have shed new light on this criminally underestimated band.\n\nSupporting Act: The Dimestore Cowboys\n\n\nDoors open at 6:30 pm. Our Box Office opens 2 hours before showtime. For shows not already sold out\, tickets will be available at the door on the day of show for an additional cost of $5 (+tax and service fee). BUYER BEWARE! Third party tickets (StubHub\, eTix\, VividSeats\, etc.) will NOT be honored. Tickets are available via paramountbristol.org or our Box Office ONLY.  All sales are final. SUMMARY:Downtown Erwin Candlelight Nativity Parade to be Held December 20th
DESCRIPTION:Mark your calendars for one of the best Christmas events in the region!\nHundreds of little shepherds and angels will flow down Main Street singing traditional Christmas songs and lighting the way with candlelight for sheep and other animals as they search for the star of Bethlehem. The scene will be set to link activity to the First Baptist Church of Erwin as the shepherds and angels arrive to see Mary\, Joseph\, and the wise men with baby Jesus. Spectators and onlookers can join in on the reverent event and follow the holy family to the manger while singing familiar carols along the way.\nThe Erwin Candlelight Nativity Parade is free and open to the public and will take place on Wednesday\, December 20th at 7:00pm. Everyone is encouraged to participate\, and we ask that you bring a small white candle from home to fill the street with candlelight. We are looking for hundreds of angels\, shepherds and carolers of all ages willing to spread love and light to our entire town. Participants (including church groups) looking to join the parade should please meet at the Erwin Post Office parking lot by no later than 6:15 pm. \nThe Erwin Candlelight Nativity Parade is in its 7th year and is organized by community churches who have a passion for working together to bring the bright light of Jesus Christ to a dark world. \nFor questions or media inquiries\, please contact Logan Engle at 865.850.5331 or loganmengle@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:ZZ Top
DESCRIPTION:“That Little Ol’ Band From Texas” has been at it for well over a half century\, delivering rock\, blues and boogie on the road and in the studio to millions of devoted fans. With iconography as distinctive as their sound\, ZZ TOP is virtually synonymous with beards\, hotrod cars\, spinning guitars and that magic keychain\, all of which transcend geography and language. \nThe elements that keep ZZ TOP fresh\, enduring and above the transitory fray can be summed up in the three words of the band’s internal mantra: “Tone\, Taste and Tenacity.”. As genuine roots musicians\, they have few peers. Their influences are both the originators of the form – Muddy Waters\, B.B. King\, et al – as well as the British blues rockers and Jimi Hendrix who emerged the generation before ZZ’s ascendance. \nThey have sold hundreds of millions of records over the course of their career\, have been officially designated as Heroes of The State of Texas\, inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (by Keith Richards\, no less) and have been referenced in countless cartoons and sitcoms. They are true rock icons and\, against all odds\, they’re really just doing what they’ve always done. ZZ TOP abides! \nDon’t miss out! Join us on April 1\, and experience ZZ TOP right here in Johnson City! \nTickets go on sale to the public this Friday\, January 12\, at 10 am.

SUMMARY:Winter Garden Seminar
DESCRIPTION:Winter Garden Seminar – Backyard Ecology\nWARRIORS PATH STATE PARK \nSaturday – January 13\, 2024\n10:00 AM – 12:00 PM\n115 Available \nRegistration Closes Wednesday Jan 24\, 2024 \nNationally-renowned Backyard Ecologist Shannon Trimboli will teach us how to create our personal pollinator and wildlife oasis. \n“Become a Backyard Ecologist: Create your Personal Pollinator and Wildlife Oasis” is our 34th annual Winter Garden Seminar. \nAbout the Guest Speaker:\nShannon Trimboli is a wildlife biologist and educator. Her passion for helping others explore nature and improve their local pollinator and wildlife habitat led her to create Backyard Ecology. Backyard Ecology offers a blog\, podcast\, and YouTube channel\, as well as other opportunities to help people in the eastern U.S. grow native plants\, create thriving ecosystems in their yards\, and learn about the nature all around them. Shannon has also published two books\, has a native plant nursery\, and offers consulting for creating pollinator gardens or wildlife and pollinator habitat. She holds a Masters degree in ecology and a Bachelors degree in wildlife biology. More information can be found at www.BackyardEcology.net \nAbout the Seminar:\nDo you dream of having a beautiful garden or other area full of pollinators and wildlife? Somewhere that you can sit and relax with friends and family while you enjoy the abundance of life surrounding you?\nMany people share this dream\, but struggle with turning it into reality. There’s lots of information out there on creating pollinator gardens\, but how do you apply it to your unique property\, goals\, and circumstances? And much of the information out there skips important steps which will help set you up for success.\nJoin us for this highly interactive workshop where Shannon will guide you through those first steps which she refers to as the heart or roots of your project. Just like your favorite native plants need a strong root system to thrive\, spending time developing a strong “root system” for your project will greatly increase your likelihood of success.\nBring paper\, something to write with\, and your dreams for creating your own personal pollinator and wildlife oasis. You can do this\, and Shannon will help you get started on the right path.\nThe seminar will be held at the Recreation Building on Duck Island\, at Warriors’ Path State Park.

SUMMARY:Roan Mountain Night Sky Party
DESCRIPTION:Coming to a night sky near you! January 14th’s night sky is set to showcase Saturn’s closest approach to the moon of the year. With a partial moon\, the night sky will be dark enough to enjoy brilliant views of Saturn’s rings as well as the many deep sky objects and constellations that grace us with their presence in winter. Celebrate this spectacle with Roan Mountain State Park from 8-9PM on Sunday\, January 14th at the Cabin 21-30 parking lot. Stay warm by a bonfire with snacks and hot chocolate while park rangers guide you through the night sky. Binoculars and a telescope will be available to enjoy closer views of Saturn.\n\nWeather is typically cold in January with the possibility of bad weather. Stay tuned to our Facebook page for updates on weather and the status of the program as time nears. We also recommend bringing a comfy camp chair with blankets. Dress warm and see you under the stars!
