SUMMARY:3rd Annual “Moonshiners” Powered Para Glider Event
DESCRIPTION:  \n3rd Annual “Moonshiners” Powered Para Glider event for 2019 at Johnson County Airport (6a4) in beautiful Mountain City\, Tennessee.\nAugust 1st to the 4th 2019 \nWe all had so much fun last year with the great turn out for some scenic mountain flying that we are inviting everyone to do it again this year. \nFor those that haven’t been here before\, we boast breathtaking mountainous views\, friendly locals\, interesting side amenities and a supporting Fixed Base Operator. Search the numerous YouTube videos from previous events to get the feel of what Mountain flying is all about. This general aviation airport is perfect for PPG operations with plenty of camping sites\, water hook up and waste water dump on-site. The option of staying at one of our many beautiful Bed in Breakfast Inns (listed below) or a hotel stay is right around the corner at the newly remodeled Americort hotel both options with reasonable rates. \nWith both asphalt and grass runways available for take offs and landings this year there will be live band\, fireworks for some night entertainment\, food and beverage service will be attempted again and 100LL aviation fuel and 2 stroke oil available in the FBO office. The date of this fly in will coincide with the “Tater Hill” free fly competition that is located only a few miles up the road for those that want to visit that event during the daytime. An FAA Notam will be implemented for safety concerns that alert general aviation aircraft of your presence in the area. The beginning of August usually has proven to be the best weather conditions around here but just in case there is two large hangars for equipment storage and shelter during the rare inclement weather. Please share this announcement with all your buddies to make this event another gathering to remember. \nFor liability reasons\, there will be no charge for event participation. Camping on property is $20.00 per night and for those that just want to park an equipment trailer on site is $10.00 per night. \nJohnson County Airport (6A4)\n611 Airport Rd.\nMountain City\, TN. 37683\nWww.johnsoncountyairport.com \nContacts:\nDave 423-727-1223 Airport manager\nBob 865-279-3161. SUMMARY:Thursday Night MSL Group Mtn Bike Rides
DESCRIPTION:Join us every Thursday evening at 6:00pm at Sugar Hollow Park for some of the best single track mountain biking in the area. We will ride anywhere from 5-10 miles depending on the turn out and what the group wants to do.\nNew to the area or never been on the trails at Sugar Hollow? No problem\, the group ride is a great place to learn all the trails as well as a great opportunity to meet other riders who are local to the area. \nNew to Mountain Biking? We love to share our love for mountain biking with new riders and the group ride is for the riders! So no matter your skill level\, we hope you wont feel intimidated to join us on every Thursday. Our group rides are a "no drop" style of ride meaning we won’t run off and leave anyone in attendance. Most often we have an A and B group\, Group A is for riders who are looking to ride as fast as possible while Group B offers a slower more relaxed ride through Sugar Hollows Trails! \nThis is single track mountain biking and unmarked hazards along narrow rocky trails are to be expected…Riders in attendance are expected to ride at your own ability and risk!

SUMMARY:Chuckey Depot Museum: Clinchfield Railroad Exhibit Reception
DESCRIPTION:Jonesborough\, TN. – The Town of Jonesborough has announced that the Chuckey Depot Museum will be having a reception on August 1\, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. to welcome the new “Clinchfield Railroad” exhibit. The exhibit will run through January 2020. \n  \nThe Clinchfield route was an impressive engineering feat of its time. Referred to as “The Costliest Railroad in America” by Scientific American in 1909\, it cost over $30 million to build (approximately $850 million in 2019). In total\, the Clinchfield traversed 277 miles\, 5 states\, and 4 mountain ranges between Spartanburg\, SC and Elkhorn City\, KY. It included 55 tunnels and 80 bridges. \n  \nThe Clinchfield line was very important to the history of the area\, especially the history of Johnson City\, Erwin\, and Kingsport. The Chuckey Depot’s original home was just down the road in Chuckey\, TN and now sits within WC Rowe Park in Jonesborough. In an effort to preserve the building\, it was dismantled and re-erected in Jonesborough\, where it opened as a museum in October 2017. \n  \nThe Chuckey Depot Museum’s regular hours are Monday\, Thursday-Friday\, and Sunday from 1-5. The museum is open on Saturday from 11-5. \nFor more information call 423.753.1010. The Chuckey Depot Museum is located at 110 S 2nd Ave. This project is brought to you by the Town of Jonesborough\, the Heritage Alliance and the Watauga Valley Railroad Historical Society. \n
