SUMMARY:Kingsport: Caroling at Christmas in the Park
DESCRIPTION:Caroling at Christmas in the Park\nMaking a Joyful Noise at Glen Bruce Park \nAcross from Kingsport City Hall\, Glen Bruce Park has been filled with decorations to make the season bright as Kingsport’s Christmas in the Park gears up for a night of holiday festivities for the whole family. \nOn December 17\, Downtown Kingsport will be filled with the sights and sounds of Christmas cheer as the park welcomes carolers from Lamplight Theatre to perform classic carols by the light of over 25 illuminated trees. These festive firs were donated by Home Depot and carefully decorated by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen\, city departments and community partners. \nIn addition to carolers\, Christmas in the Park will be proud to welcome a very important guest coming straight from the North Pole. Kids of all ages will have the opportunity to come meet Santa Claus as he wanders the park\, and may even spot another Christmas visitor from Whoville among the trees. While taking in the sights\, attendees can enjoy fresh hot chocolate available at no charge (while supplies last). \n“We are very excited to showcase our newest holiday event in Downtown Kingsport on December 17\,” said Alderman James Phillips. “Families are going to love coming down and walking through what feels like a scene out of a Hallmark movie. I truly believe you won’t find a better event to put you in the Christmas spirit.” \nThe fun starts on Friday\, December 17 from 6 – 8 p.m. There is no cost for entry. This outdoor event is subject to change in the case of inclement weather. If you can’t make it to this event\, don’t worry—Christmas in the Park is going on from now until January 3\, so come down and see all the decorated trees and lights. \nFor more information\, please visitwww.thisiskingsport.com or call (423)-224-2821.

SUMMARY:Free Rides: Kingsport Carousel
DESCRIPTION:Kingsport Carousel Offers Free Rides on New Year’s Eve \n\nThis New Year’s Eve\, Kingsport Carousel is letting riders spin round-and-round as they round out the year. All those interested in riding the carousel on Friday\, December 31st can do so for free\, as the beloved attraction waives its usual $1 entry fee. \n\nThis free day of rides was sponsored by John Gilmer in memory of his late parents\, John C. and Mitzi Gilmer. \n\nThe Kingsport Carousel is in its 7th year of operation in Downtown Kingsport\, having first opened July 2015. The Carousel project took over 6 years to complete and is the product of thousands of hours of work from local volunteers\, who handcrafted each wooden component of the ride. The ride now stands as a Kingsport landmark\, hosting visitors 5 days a week\, all year long. \n\n“The community is so grateful to the Gilmer family for sponsoring the rides on New Year’s Eve. It allows riders of all ages to share in the joy of the carousel. This is a great way to honor and remember John C. and Mitzi Gilmer\,” says Hannah Powell\, Kingsport Cultural Arts Program Coordinator. \n\nThe Carousel will be open on New Year’s Eve from 12:30 -5:00 p.m. For more information\, please visit arts.kingsporttn.gov or call 423-392-8416. \n  \nAbout the Office of Cultural Arts \nThe Office of Cultural Arts (OCA)\, part of the City of Kingsport\, connects\, coordinates and engages the public with a creative community. We operate the Renaissance Arts Center\, the Farmer’s Market\, the Kingsport Carousel\, the Carousel Fine Craft Show\, Kingsport Public Art Program\, Engage Kingsport Performing Arts Series and a broad range of support to the area’s arts organizations. The OCA works in tandem with Engage Kingsport\, Inc.\, the “Friends of the Cultural Arts” group\, a private\, volunteer-led 501(c)3 non-profit community organization. \nAbout the City of Kingsport \nFounded in 1917\, the City of Kingsport (pop. 55\,400) is located on the Tennessee-Virginia border at the crossroads of I-81 and I-26 near the geographic center of the eastern U.S. The city is widely known as a planned community\, designed by renowned city planner John Nolen and wrapping around the foot of Bays Mountain – a 3\,500-acre park\, nature preserve\, planetarium and observatory. Kingsport is recognized as an International Safe Community by the National Safety Council\, a Healthier Tennessee community\, and won the 2009 Harvard Innovations in American Government Award for its higher education initiatives. While many city names are duplicated throughout the U.S.\, there’s only one Kingsport – a fact that invokes community pride\, known locally as the “Kingsport Spirit.” \n###

SUMMARY:An Evening with Dailey & Vincent
DESCRIPTION:  \nMILTON HARKEY PRESENTS An Evening with Dailey & Vincent\n\n\nFri\, January 7\, 2022\n\n\n\n\nDoors: 6:00 pm / Show: 7:00 pm\n\n\n\n\n$34 – $45 plus applicable taxes and fees / Members save up to $5 per ticket\n\n\nGrand Ole Opry Members\, Five-time Grammy® award winners individually\, three-time Grammy® award nominees collectively\, four-time DOVE Award winners\, and winners of 35 IBMA Awards altogether (including 3-time IBMA Entertainer of the Year Award winners and 3-Time Vocal Group of the Year Award winners)\, Jamie Dailey and Darrin Vincent\, backed by one of the best bands on tourtoday\, are some of the most reputable and elite entertainers in American music; bluegrass\, traditional country and gospel music. \nFrom the very beginning of their partnership in late 2007\, Jamie Dailey and Darrin Vincent quickly established themselves as fresh voices in their genre. Young but seasoned veterans of bluegrass\, traditional country\, and gospel groups themselves\, Dailey and Vincent have built on the experience and knowledge gained from working with Doyle Lawson (Dailey) and John Hartford and Ricky Skaggs (Vincent) to forge their own distinct career path. The concoction of their fantastically powerful vocal blends\, 4 award-winning studio albums\, and heavy touring schedules has gained them well-deserved attention from bluegrass\, country\, and gospel critics and fans alike. Equally at home with material from any of the aforementioned genres\, Jamie and Darrin continue to expand on the possibilities of what kinds of music can become “Dailey & Vincent” music. \nWhile Dailey and Vincent continue to draw on the lessons they learned over the years about respect for musical integrity and the importance of tradition\, they have certainly planted their own flag deeply and permanently into the soil of American music. \n\n\n

SUMMARY:Old Christmas at Fort Watauga
DESCRIPTION:Christmas isn’t over yet! Come to Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park and see how our colonial ancestors celebrated a holiday called “Old Christmas”. In Colonial America\, Christmas was celebrated as a twelve day holiday with many traditions and customs. Does The Twelve Days of Christmas sound familiar? These twelve days of feasting\, and merrymaking ended on January 5th or “Twelfth Night” with a grand celebration. \nOn Saturday\, January 8th from 10am-3pm and Sunday\, January 5th from \n10am-3pm the Washington County Militia will hold their annual Old Christmas Celebration. As you walk through the gates of Fort Watauga you will travel back in time to an 18th century Old Christmas “Jollification”. Each cabin in the fort will be the setting of Christmas\, New Year\, and 12th Night traditions as celebrated by the settlers of different cultures on the colonial frontier. Many of our modern Christmas customs are taken from centuries old practices such as English Christmas Guns\, the Irish Holly Wreath\, the German Tannenbaum\, Scottish First Footing\, and the Dutch Sinterklaas. See how our Christmas practices of today are steeped in these old-world traditions. \nGet the most out of the Holiday Season and visit Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park for a fun\, entertaining\, and educational family outing. Arrive ready to be filled with the spirit of Christmas. It’s an event that is sure to become a tradition with your family year after year. \nSycamore Shoals State Historic Park is located at 1651 W. Elk Avenue in Elizabethton\, TN. For more information contact the Park at 423-543-5808 or visit our websites at www.sycamoreshoalstn.wordpress.com or https://tnstateparks.com/parks/sycamore-shoals.

In particular\, the food pantry needs canned pasta (SpaghettiOs\, ravioli)\, evaporated milk\, brownie or cake mix\, syrup\, beef stew\, chili and baked beans. \nTo donate food items\, please drop off any items at the McKinney Center until Tuesday\, January 18 at 12 p.m.\, Monday through Friday\, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Items will be collected from December 13 until January 17. \nJoin the McKinney Center for an online stream on the McKinney Center’s Facebook page\, on January 17 at 2 p.m.\, to see live readings from MLK’s speech\, hear about local Black history and enjoy powerful song from the civil rights era. SUMMARY:Warrriors Path State Park: Winter Tree Keys
DESCRIPTION:Winter Tree Keys – JANUARY 19  \nTrees are cool shade\, fresh air\, wildlife habitat and a “feast” for our eyes! We can enjoy and appreciate trees without knowing their names. But it is nice to be able to identify “old friends” on our forest walks. We’ll practice using a few different botanical keys to learn the names of our native trees. Learn winter trees by their bark\, buds\, fallen leaves and more. It’s a skill that can help us observe and better understand our “woody neighbors.” Besides gaining tree knowledge\, each participant will get to take home a pamphlet-key to our local trees.
