SUMMARY:Leanne Morgan Comedy Show
DESCRIPTION:Doors open at 7 PM.  \nGeneral Admission is $25; VIP Tickets are $40\, seated in the front row\, and have a Meet-and-Greet before the show. \nConcessions and drinks will be available.  \nLeanne’s style of comedy combines her southern charm and hilarious story telling about her own life into an act that keeps them coming back for more. As a stay-at-home\, mother of three with a husband\, people are always accusing her of spying on them because she seems to be living the same life that they do. The fact that everyone can relate to her comedy has made her a hit even among the strangest of audiences. \nWhile performing in San Antonio she was asked to appear at the Las Vegas Comedy Festival and shortly thereafter appeared on ABC’s The View in a hilarious housewife segment. Leanne appeared as a finalist on Nick at Nite’s Funniest Mom and toured three years with the Southern Fried Chicks. She has appeared in comedy clubs\, performing arts centers\, and theatres all over the United States. She had a contract with Warner Brothers and ABC to develop a sitcom based on her comedy and is currently collaborating with writer/producer Matt Williams (“Roseanne\,” “Home Improvement”) and Lionsgate on a ½ hour sitcom. \nShe counts as her celebrity fans\, Dr. Phil and Paula Deen. She has appeared on both their shows.

SUMMARY:With These Hands: A History Based Play
DESCRIPTION:Bringing The Past To Life In Meaningful Ways\nAugust 3 through 4 \nThe Heritage Alliance and The McKinney Center at Booker T. Washington School are joining\ntogether to produce the original\, history-based play\, With These Hands as a joint fundraiser for\nthe two organizations. \nThis full length “dramadey” is filled with stories from Jonesborough’s own history\, “Stories that\nground us\, make us think and that show us just how closely our future aligns with our past.”\nsays playwright Anne G’Fellers-Mason. \nThis production\, written by G’Fellers-Mason and directed by Jules Corriere\, highlights significant\nmoments in the history of Jonesborough and Washington County. It also features some of\nJonesborough’s best-known residents\, including town historians Paul Fink and Miriam Fink-\nDulaney\, Angelina Mason and Charlotte Dilworth\, and many others\, some whose legacy is\nfound in street names and buildings\, and others\, in the work they built with their own hands\nthat still stand today- the railroad\, the courthouse\, the steps leading to the Old Mill Spring.\nThese are the stories of real people and real families through history\, meeting at crisis points\,\nand finding ways past them. “Their struggles in the past inform us of how we can move forward\nwhen we face these same kinds of obstacles. History is cyclical\, but we can learn from it.\nAnne’s play is very timely. There are lessons inside. The Masons and the Dilworths bridged gaps\nover great divides\, it was difficult\, but they found a way\, and we can aspire to their example.”\nSays Corriere. \nThe play may hold answers\, but it asks even more questions- something that a good work of art\nalways does. Can two families keep their friendship intact even though they find themselves on\nopposing sides of the Civil War? Can a former Southern Belle allow herself to accept help from a\nFreedman after emancipation? And the burning question- What is historic spit and what does it\nhave to do with the Washington County Courthouse? These scenes and more will be brought to\nlife on stage for one weekend only\, in a multi-media production which will infuse historic\narchival photos\, connecting the past to the present. \nImportantly\, the proceeds from this production will benefit two important organizations in the\nTown of Jonesborough. The Heritage Alliance of Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia is\ndedicated to the preservation of the architectural\, historical\, and cultural heritage of our region\nand to providing educational experiences related to history and heritage for a wide range of\naudiences. The McKinney Center at Booker T. Washington School is dedicated to building\ncommunity and enriching relationships through excellent arts education\, cultural\ninterpretation\, and historic preservation. Tickets for this production\, which are only $20\, will\nserve each organization’s educational programs. \nPerformances of With These Hands will take place at 7:30 p.m. on August 3 and 4. There will be\na 2 p.m. matinee performance on August 4th. This unique fundraiser is a great way to support\nhistory\, preservation\, and the arts in Jonesborough. Funds from the production will enhance the\neducational programs of both organizations. With These Hands is just one example of the\nprogramming the Heritage Alliance and the McKinney Center have to offer.\nTo purchase tickets\, please call the Jonesborough Visitor’s Center at 423.753.1010 or online at\njonesborough.com/tickets. Tickets may be sold at the door\, depending upon availability\, but it\nis highly advised to purchase tickets in advance\, as seating is limited.

SUMMARY:Border Bash: Thrift Store Cowboys and Guy Marshall
DESCRIPTION:Celebrating 19 years in Historic Downtown\, Border Bash—Bristol’s premier summer concert series—is back for another amazing season! Hosted by Believe in Bristol and the Cities of Bristol\, Virginia and Tennessee\, Border Bash is about fun\, family\, great music\, and creating memories to last a lifetime.\n“Border Bash is a tradition that showcases everything that makes Downtown Bristol special\, and that includes great live music\,” said Maggie Bishop\, Executive Director of Believe in Bristol. “Bristol’s downtown is definitely a hub for a wide variety of food\, unique shopping\, community events\, and an all-around great place to come together with friends and family. This year Border Bash will introduce audiences to a whole new roster of talented\, emerging acts as well as a few familiar favorites.”\n\nAugust 3rd – Piedmont Intersection\n7:00 pm\, Thriftstore Cowboys\n8:30 pm\, Guy Marshall\n\nBorder Bash takes place on State Street in Historic Downtown Bristol. Children’s activities and vendors begin at 6:30 PM and live music will kick off at 7:00 PM. Border Bash is hosted by Believe in Bristol and the Cities of Bristol\, TN & VA. Border Bash would not be possible without our community sponsors. Our sponsors in 2018 include Alpha Natural Resources\, The Antique Automobile Club of America – Appalachian Region\, Bank of America\, Bank of Tennessee\, Birthplace of Country Music\, Blackbird Bakery\, Bristol Herald Courier\, Camellia Digital\, Coca-Cola Bottling Company\, Anne & Ben Cowan\, Discover Bristol\, Express AV Productions\, John & Brenda Fincher\, Grifols\, Highlands Realty – Bristol Branch\, Anna Morgan\, Tom and Barbara Smith/ Merrill Lynch\, Stateline Bar & Grille\, Strongwell\, Tri-Cities Escape Game\, Tri City Tent and Event\, Walling Distributing Dr. & Mrs. Zaidi and media sponsors Bristol Herald Courier\, Radio Bristol\, WCYB-5\, and WXBQ 96.9 FM.\n\nAbout Thriftstore Cowboys\nThe Lubbock based sextet\, which includes Fluitt\, Colt Miller\, Clint Miller\, Cory Ames\, Kris Killingsworth\, and Amanda Shires on fiddle and vocals\, have been touring together for a decade after meeting at the musical South Plains College. They are neither of the typical Texas-based types of bands – a country-rock mélange or strictly indie rock. As Buddy Magazine points out\, “Thrift Store Cowboys’ feel is more\, for a lack of better description\, gypsy desert music — the free sound of spacey\, heat-induced delirium…a sure\, confident sound backed by thoughtful vision.” Schumacher produced their 2007 release\, Lay Low While Crawling or Creeping\, of which Austin Sound said\, “the album is to country music what Jim Jarmusch’s film Deadman was to the western.”\n\nAbout Guy Marshall\nGuy Marshall Shirley was Adam McNulty’s late grandfather. “Shirley passed away in 2008\, but the kind of man that he was and the land he called home lives on inthe music made by McNulty and his wife\, Sarrenna. Together with a few talented friends\, they’ve made Guy Marshall an up-and-coming East Tennessee roots-rock outfit that plays with touching beauty and sincerity.”

The\nskills and abilities that once meant survival for the early\nsettlers here will provide us a special kind of enjoyment\ntoday. We can also gain new insights into those who lived\nhere before us. \nYou can enjoy the many people demonstrating traditional\ncrafts and life skills. Whether it be weaving\, woodcraft\,\napple butter\, spinning\, or basketry\, all these volunteers\nare passing on to us the skills that have been passed on\nto them\, carrying on a family tradition. And some of the\nday’s crafts are a bit more modern\, showing how we can\nstill rely on our own hands and our own creativity.\nYou can also enjoy some old-timey games and contests.\nThis is a chance to see how much fun we can have\,\nwithout all the gadgets and “store-bought” toys that\nmodern children have come to expect. You can also\ndelight in a variety of other traditional entertainments:\nold-timey stories and some excellent local musicians.\nEach will bring their special talents to the growing\ntradition of East Tennessee performing arts.\nAs we enjoy the day\, we should remember that the events\nare held on a land called Warriors’ Path. The park is\nnamed in remembrance of a long history of travelers.\nGenerations of peoples have called this land home. When\nthey moved on\, they left behind signs of their lives – signs\non the land itself\, and signs in the traditions\nremembered to this day. We too are travelers on the\nsame land. Just as the folk traditions have been handed\non to us\, so too this land has been handed on to us. Let us\nhope that this day’s events will help remind us to leave\nsigns of our caring into the future.

SUMMARY:Tartuffe
DESCRIPTION:Theatre Bristol is proud to present a Moliere comedic classic\, “Tartuffe\,” produced by the Theatre Bristol Youth Service Board\, with literary direction by Glenn Patterson\, July 27\, 28\, and 29 at the Theatre Bristol ARTspace. \nOrgon is a lucky man! He has a lovely wife\, two devoted children and all the wealth a man could need. And now he’s found Tartuffe\, a humble and pious holy man who promises eternal salvation. Orgon’s family sees a different Tartuffe; a con man out to wed Orgon’s daughter\, seduce his wife\, and steal his fortune. When the family decides to end Tartuffe’s reign of terror\, they hatch a bold and hilarious plot to expose him — but he won’t go down without a fight! \nThe cast is made up of the Youth Service Board members\, all Theatre Bristol veterans. Jace Lyon leads the production as Orgon\, supported by Camille Gray as his wife Elmire\, along with his two children\, Devon White as Damis and Morgan Whitaker as Mariane. Other family members include Anna Kimerer as Orgon’s mother\, Madame Perenelle\, and Luke Gray as Elmire’s brother\, Cleante. Seth Gilstrap is Valere\, the charming love-interest to Mariane\, and Lucy Tester is the fiesty maid\, Dorine. Whitney Brooks plays Flipote\, Madame Perenelle’s lazy handmaid\, and Maliah Tilley serves as Loyal\, a faithful servant of the law who is supported by Parker Dugger and Abigail Combs as Officers. Jim Altman rounds out the cast in the title role as the swindling “holy man\,” Tartuffe. \nMarley Hillman is stepping up to the new challenge of stage managing and Camille Gray is excited to have the opportunity to set design again. Emma Kennedy and Albert Tester are looking forward to be working in the tech deck\, operating lights and sound. With the help of their mentors\, Samantha Gray and Steve Baskett\, the Youth Service Board has put together a truly entertaining comedy. \n“Tartuffe” is literary directed by Glenn Patterson and managed by Theatre Bristol Youth Service Board members ages 13 to 20. After the successes of their previous productions\, “Pygmalion\,” “Love’s Labour’s Lost\,” and “The Importance of Being Earnest\,” the YSB is excited to have the opportunity to present this classic play.
