SUMMARY:We Did it Together Community Play
DESCRIPTION:We Did It Together is the new original StoryTown community play which will have its premier at the McKinney Center on June 3 at 7:30 PM. \n\nSet in the mid-twentieth century in Jonesborough\, Tennessee\, We Did It Together weaves compelling true-life stories in a new original play with show-stopping music and dance. The play focuses on ordinary people of this small community who accomplish remarkable feats as they are caught in extraordinary times. Teenage girls called to serve in the Cadet Nurse Corps during WWII; a doctor and his family in Cuba forced to flee as Castro’s rebel’s take over\, leading them to find freedom in Northeast Tennessee; the election of Ernest McKinney\, the first African American Alderman to serve in Jonesborough; a historic home filled with otherworldly guests\, and the famous Rambo cattle drive on Greenwood Drive and Spring Street. We Did It Together explores the ways that the families and neighborhoods in this small Appalachian community have come together to accomplish great things. \n\nThis play is the fourth in a series of original community plays at the McKinney Center written by playwright Jules Corriere\, who this month won and placed in eight international film festivals\, including taking first place at the Hollywood Just 4 Shorts Screenplay Competition and is a finalist in the Los Angeles International Screenplay Awards. Her winning screenplay mirrors the style of We Did It Together\, which celebrates the extraordinary lives of ordinary people. \n\nJoining Corriere on the production are the original creative team members who directed\, composed\, and choreographed Jonesborough’s first community play\, I Am Home\, in 2011. Director Richard Owen Geer\, composer Heather McCluskey\, music director and accompanist Brett McCluskey\, and choreographer Kevin Iega Jeff of Deeply Rooted Dance Company in Chicago\, joined by local set designer J.J.Jeffers will bring this exciting play to life. \n\nThe cast is large\, and reflective of Jonesborough’s community. Nearly forty actors have come together to create this production\, many of whom are playing their own friends and relatives\, including Ernest (Buttons) McKinney\, Jr. whose parents are both featured as characters in the play. Other cast members are familiar faces to the area’s theater scene\, including Sabra Hayden\, Stefanie Murphy\, Ubinibi-Afia Short\, Mika Hoilman\, and thirty more gifted actors and singers in this ensemble cast which showcases the great talent this region is known for. \n\nTickets for We Did It Together are on sale now and available by calling the Historic Visitors Center at 423.753.1010 or online at Jonesborough.com/tickets. General Admission tickets are $17 and Senior/Student tickets are $13. There are also group rates of $13. This production is sponsored by a grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission and is part of the McKinney Center’s StoryTown Program. \n\nDates and times for the production are June 3-7:30\, June 4-2:00 & 7:30\, June 5-2:00\, June 10-7:30\, June 11: 2:00 & 7:30\, June 12-2:00.

SUMMARY:15th Annual Carter County Omnium
DESCRIPTION:The Carter County Omnium returns for the fifteenth year on June 4 and 5. The three races cover Carter and Unicoi Counties winding through our beautiful and challenging terrain. The events will bring a total of about 700 people to our area. \n\nStephen Bassett\,riding for Rally Racing\, winner of the pro men’s Omnium in 2020 and 2021\, will not be able to defend his title this year\, due to his European racing schedule. Bassett said\, the “Roan Groan is without a doubt Tennessee’s most iconic course. It’s always a pleasure to race up Roan Mountain. Great races are hard to come by these days and the Carter County Omnium has held its place as one of the best races in the country.” \n\nMitchell Hopkins is returning to defend his Masters 40+ win of last year. He said “Carter County Omnium has stood the test of time with great organization and the ability to change venues when necessary. Still one of the best race weekends for amateurs there is. It’s always fun to have a proper mountain top finish”. \n\nIn the 2021 Omnium there were 338 racers from 25 states. The majority of them were here for the first time. Early registration is trending to be about the same this year\, though we have some international registrants again who were absent during Covid-19. Devraj Grewal riding for Oliver’s Racing is from Sidney\, Australia. He raced the National championships Australia in January and the Oceania Continental Championships in April. Before Covid-19 we had a few pro racers from Colombia\, Italy\, Great Britain\, and New Zealand over the years. \n\nThe Carter County Roan Groan for the Pro 1 /2 category is unique in the USA. They race from Elizabethton Cat Island Park to Carver’s Gap uses 80 miles of roads in Carter and Unicoi Counties. They climb a total of 9\,747 ft\, finishing with a 7.5 mile category 1 climb of 2\,584 ft. In  2021\, Bassett  averaged 23 mph and still had to sprint on the top of the mountainin for the win against five other racers. This course is similar to stage 17 of this year’s Tour de France in the Pyrenees. Stage 17 is 81 miles long climbing a total of 10\,000+ ft and finishes with a 5 mile 2\,000 ft climb. Our winners in the past go on \, like Bassett\, to race for pro teams in Europe. \n\nThis level of racing is made possible by our sponsors providing the $12\,000+ cash prizes. They are\, Tour Carter County\, Ballad Health\, Carter County Bank\, Edward Jones\, Nor-Well\, Carter County Parks and Recreation\, Holiday Inn\, and Food City. \n\nYou can watch the developing racers on Sunday June 5. SUMMARY:Robert Earl Keen - I'm Coming Home
DESCRIPTION:Don’t miss Robert Earl Keen’s last tour. “I always wanted to play music\, and I always knew that you had to get some recognition in order to continue to play music\,” Keen says. “But I never thought in terms of getting to be a big star. I thought in terms of having a really\, really good career writing good songs\, and getting onstage to share a really good time.” In July of 2021\, POLLSTAR ranked Keen on its Top 20 Global Concert Tours\, proof that he has blazed a peer\, critic\, and fan-lauded trail that’s earned him living-legend and pioneer status in the Americana music world. Now with 21 records to his name\, a band of stellar musicians\, and thousands of shows under his belt\, there is an end in sight to life on the road for Keen. Keen will bring his “I’m Comin’ Home” tour to the ETSU Martin Center on June 5 at 7:30 p.m.
