SUMMARY:"Grant and Twain The Men and The Memoirs"
DESCRIPTION:“Grant and Twain The Men and The Memoirs” A friendship That Made History. Docudrama\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPRESERVING OUR HERITAGE\n\nThe Tri Cities Civil War Round Table is hosting a two Act Docudrama entitled “The Men and The Memoirs” a play starring two living history scholars — Curt Fields as Gen. Ulysses S. Grant and Warren Brown as Mark Twain — telling the story of how these two men became fast friends and influenced the course of American literature(Jilton). The event will be held at 7:00 p.m.\, on July 10th\, Kingsport Renaissance Center Theatre Kingsport\, TN\n\n\n“The Men and The Memoirs”\n\nThe Tri Cities Civil War Round Table\,\nis hosting this annual Fun Fest event. Each year the attendance grows and the theatre swells. In fact last year the lower level of the theatre was packed and 3/4 of the balcony. Tickets will be available at the door or at the Fun Fest ticket office.\n\n“In the spring of 1884\, Ulysses S. Grant heeded the advice of Mark Twain and finally agreed to write his memoirs. Little did Grant or Twain realize that this seemingly straightforward decision would profoundly alter both their lives. Over the next 15 months\, as the two men became close friends and intimate collaborators\, Grant raced against the spread of cancer to compose a triumphant account of his life and times\, while Twain struggled to complete and publish his greatest novel\, “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” (Jilton).\nThe reason Grant let Twain talk him into writing his memoirs was simple: He was bankrupt and needed the money. Plus he feared he would leave his wife\, Julia\, with heavy debts when he died. That was something he would not do” (Jilton).\n“Twain promised Grant princely returns in exchange for the right to edit and publish the book — and though the writer’s own finances were tottering\, he kept his word to the general and his family. Mortally ill and battling debts\, magazine editors and a constant crush of reporters\, Grant fought bravely to get the story of his life and his Civil War victories down on paper. Twain\, meanwhile\, staked all his hopes\, both financial and literary\, on the tale of a ragged boy and a runaway slave that he had been unable to finish for decades” (Jilton).\n\nFields and Brown will bring this emotional story to life on the stage at the Renaissance Arts Center. The show runs from 7 to 9 p.m. Tickets will be available at the Fun Fest Store beginning June 23 until noon on July 10. The remaining tickets will go on sale at the Renaissance Center ticket booth until they are sold out. The Renaissance Arts Center is located at 1200 E. Center St. in Kingsport.\n\nhttps://funfest.net/events/a-civil-war-evening/

SUMMARY:21st Reunion of Nubian Kruzers United MC
DESCRIPTION:JOHNSON CITY\, TN – Summertime\, mountains\, and motorcycles. A unique combination found here in Johnson City and Northeast Tennessee. Be on the lookout for 200 motorcyclists from across the North and South this weekend in anticipation of the 21st Reunion of Nubian Kruzers United MC being hosted by Johnson City’s own local chapter. The reunion will be held July 13-15 at DoubleTree by Hilton in Johnson City. \n  \n“We started the Johnson City chapter 4 years ago\, and we are the 13th chapter to join. We place value on God\, family\, and then the motorcycle club. These values were instilled by our founder\, Chaz Crenshaw\, in 2001\, and it has been a great honor to keep them intact. All our chapters are greatly involved with the community\, and we appreciate the support from everyone\,” said Donny “DOC” Evans\, Sergeant at Arms and Treasurer for the Nubian Kruzers United MC of the Johnson City Chapter. \n  \nOrganizers are expecting a large number of participants\, many of them attracted to the area due to the South’s greatest motorcycle rides\, The Southern Dozen. In addition to riding\, these enthusiasts will explore Northeast Tennessee’s vast array of restaurants\, retailers\, and attractions. \n  \nThe Southern Dozen is a series of rides that begin in Johnson City and go out into Northeast Tennessee\, Southwest Virginia\, and Western North Carolina. These thirteen rides are represented through easy-to-use itineraries\, along more than 1\,100 miles of scenic roadways. Lodging\, shopping\, cultural attractions\, dining\, outdoor activities\, and historical sites are highlighted along each ride\, with the beauty of the region being the connective theme throughout them all. \n  \n“Hosting motorcycle clubs\, such as Nubian Kruzers United MC\, brings an influx of visitor spending to our community. It is conservatively estimated this event will bring a total economic impact of $79\,200\, including $3\,500 in local sales and lodging tax collection. Visit Johnson City is proud to support Nubian Kruzers United MC and promote Johnson City as a motorcycle-friendly destination\,” said Alec Castro\, Director of Sales & Public Relations at Visit Johnson City. \n  \nThe public is invited to a Meet & Greet Thursday\, July 13 at 7 p.m. at Wild Wing Cafe in Downtown Johnson City. The club will also be having a group ride from DoubleTree by Hilton to VFW Post 2108 Friday\, July 14 starting at 7:30 p.m. Doors open to the public at 9 p.m. that same evening for a party at VFW. All are welcome to attend either gathering. \n  \nTo learn more about Nubian Kruizers United MC\, please visit NubianKruzersUnited.com. \n  \nTo learn more about The Southern Dozen\, the South’s greatest motorcycle rides that begin and end in Johnson City\, please visit SouthernDozen.com. \n  \nVisit Johnson City strives to showcase the uniqueness of the community by promoting its distinctive resources\, events\, and attractions to both visitors and citizens.

SUMMARY:American Jet Sport Association Jet Ski Racing
DESCRIPTION:JOHNSON CITY\, Tenn. – Visit Johnson City is proud to lend their support to the American Jet Sport Association (AJSA) as they bring the 2023 Southern Summer Series to Winged Deer Lakeside Park July 14th through July 16th. \n  \nThis event is one of many with a goal in mind of bringing visitors and locals alike back to Winged Deer Lakeside Park following the 7-year-long Boone Dam restoration project. When a sinkhole began forming near the dam’s base in late 2014\, it was unknown how long the water level of Boone Lake would be too low to allow for watersports to take place. The Boone Dam project was finally completed in 2022\, giving organizers such as the AJSA the ability to host events at Johnson City’s premier lakefront area once more. \n  \nMaking its debut in 2019 as the Chattanooga Jet Ski Club\, the AJSA has grown exponentially and transformed into a grass roots southeastern racing league. Using Chattanooga\, TN as its headquarters\, the AJSA plans to focus most races within a 6-hour driving circle around Chattanooga – making Johnson City a perfect stop along the way. \n  \nJohnson City’s Winged Deer Lakeside Park will play host to rounds seven and eight on the AJSA Southern Summer Series tour. “Johnson City is an amazing place with lots of things to do and see\, and we plan to bring some exciting racing to Winged Deer Park. As a former resident of Johnson City\, I am excited to share this amazing city with my race family and friends. We invite everyone to come out and watch\,” said Keith McAfee\, Chief Partnership Officer for the AJSA. \n  \nFriday\, July 14th will be reserved for junior level registration and course practice. Saturday\, July 15th and Sunday\, July 16th will include Pro WX Qualifiers/Main Events\, amateur\, and junior racing. Food trucks will be present on Saturday and Sunday. There is a $10 gate fee per person\, which is a small price to pay to witness this dynamic and electric water sport event for all ages. \nThe AJSA seeks to promote racing at all levels in the Southeast United States. AJSA desires to serve riders at every experience level. Whether you are a seasoned racer or interested in learning how to race\, AJSA has a place for you. The AJSA is not associated with any sanctioning body. The reason for starting their own sanctioning body is to allow the focus to be placed on the riders and the venues where races will be held. In other words\, racing for racers by racers with a focus on friends\, family\, and fun. \n  \nVisit Johnson City strives to showcase the uniqueness of the community by promoting its distinctive resources\, events\, and attractions to both visitors and citizens.
