SUMMARY:McKinney Center: Masterpiece Mingle
DESCRIPTION:Masterpiece Mingle is a popular event that brings together art\, music and great food to the McKinney Center this year on Friday\, April 29 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. This is the largest fundraiser for the McKinney Center each year as proceeds support scholarships for K-12 grade students who have financial needs and other educational programming throughout the year for McKinney Center art classes. The event provides plenty of opportunities for art and music lovers to meet and mingle in a fun and elegant atmosphere as they admire the work of art they get to take home\, or even exchange with another guest. \n\nThis event\, which sells out well in advance each year\, will feature an exhibit of 125 different works of art\, and each guest will take one of these works home. The artwork\, which has been donated by regional artists\, include mediums such as watercolor\, acrylic\, ceramics\, fabric art\, jewelry\, woodwork and more. All pieces will be on display for guests to admire throughout the evening until the event ends\, and each guest takes their corresponding piece of art home with them. Guests receive their artwork at random. Each artwork is assigned a number\, and each program the guest receives will correspond to one of those numbers. Guests can keep their original mystery masterpiece\, or find other guests with whom they may “swap.” \n\nAmid the fun atmosphere\, guests will enjoy live jazz music by a combo from the Jonesborough Rhythm Express. They can also enjoy heavy hors d’oeuvres from Main Street Café and Catering\, and a silent auction featuring more exquisite art\, great books and top-quality art supplies. Beer and wine will also be for sale by Main Street Café and Catering. \n\nThis unique event serves as the signature annual fundraiser for the McKinney Center. Tickets are $50 which includes the event\, food\, music and the original piece of art each guest will take home. \n\nTickets are limited to one-hundred twenty-five\, as this is the number of works that has been donated. To purchase tickets\, call the Jonesborough Visitor Center at 423.753.1010 or purchase online at Jonesborough.com/tickets. \n\n### \n\nAbout the McKinney Center at Booker T. Washington: The mission of the McKinney Center at Booker T. Washington is to provide a comprehensive program through Jonesborough’s Mary B. Martin Program for the Arts which teaches various art skills to all participants through a quality program of instruction open to all segments of Jonesborough’s population. In addition\, a primary mission of the Center is to enhance minority participation in the planning and implementation in all activities in Jonesborough while specifically celebrating the contribution of the African-American community in the growth and development of the Town. The activities of the McKinney Center are designed to enhance the quality of life of all Jonesborough residents. \n  \nAbout the Town of Jonesborough: A unique 18th century town nestled in the Appalachian Mountains of Northeast Tennessee\, Jonesborough’s natural beauty\, charming architecture\, and storytelling heritage have attracted visitors worldwide. SUMMARY:Kingsport Iron Pour
DESCRIPTION:The Kingsport Office of Cultural Arts and Engage Kingsport are bringing back one of the most popular artistic events of last year. \nThe Iron Pour event will be held at the Inventor Center (118 Shelby Street) on May 7 beginning at noon. The pouring will take place at approximately 1 p.m. \nSculpture artist Tripp Jarvis and a team of master sculptors will conduct an iron pour demonstration\, heating up 500 pounds of iron to 3\,000 degrees. Then\, when the iron is white hot\, Jarvis and his team will pour it into molds made during one of the eight scratch mold workshops. \nIt’s free to watch the iron pour\, but if you would like to participate and make your own iron artwork\, then you need to attend one of the eight scratch mold workshops. Here\, you’ll scratch unique designs into an 8-inch sand mold which will be cast with molten iron during the event. \nThe cost is only $15 and the workshops are held on the following days at the Inventor Center: \nThursday\, April 14\, 10 a.m. – noon \nThursday\, April 21\, 10 a.m. – noon \nFriday\, April 29\, 10 a.m. – noon \nFriday\, April 29\, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. \nSaturday\, April 30\, 10 a.m. – noon \nFriday\, May 6\, 10 a.m. – noon \nFriday\, May 6\, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. \nSaturday\, May 7\, 10 a.m. – noon (This is the morning of the Iron Pour event. All molds must be completed no later than 12:30pm). \nThe iron pour will take place rain or shine and advance registration is required. You must be 16 years of age or older. Children ages 6-15 are welcome to participate if accompanied by an adult \nFor more information visit www.engagekingsport.com or call the Office of Cultural Arts at 423-392-8414. The Kingsport Iron Pour is made possible by a grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission. \nAbout the Office of Cultural Arts \nThe Office of Cultural Arts (OCA)\, part of the City of Kingsport\, connects\, coordinates and engages the public with a creative community. We operate the Renaissance Arts Center\, the Farmer’s Market\, the Kingsport Carousel\, the Carousel Fine Craft Show\, Kingsport Public Art Program\, Engage Kingsport Performing Arts Series and a broad range of support to the area’s arts organizations. The OCA works in tandem with Engage Kingsport\, Inc.\, the “Friends of the Cultural Arts” group\, a private\, volunteer-led 501(c)3 non-profit community organization. \nAbout the City of Kingsport \nFounded in 1917\, the City of Kingsport (pop. 55\,400) is located on the Tennessee-Virginia border at the crossroads of I-81 and I-26 near the geographic center of the eastern U.S. The city is widely known as a planned community\, designed by renowned city planner John Nolen and wrapping around the foot of Bays Mountain – a 3\,550-acre park\, nature preserve\, planetarium and observatory. Kingsport is recognized as an International Safe Community by the National Safety Council\, a Healthier Tennessee community\, and won the 2009 Harvard Innovations in American Government Award for its higher education initiatives. While many city names are duplicated throughout the U.S.\, there’s only one Kingsport – a fact that invokes community pride\, known locally as the “Kingsport Spirit.” \n###

SUMMARY:Miracle Field Opening Day
DESCRIPTION:Opening Day for the spring baseball season of Kingsport’s Miracle League will be this Saturday (April 23) at 10 a.m. at the Miracle Complex at Brickyard Park. \nThe season runs until June 25 with games held every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Games typically run two to three innings or about an hour in length. Jerseys are provided at no cost and there is no fee to participate in the league. \n“There’s never been an entry fee or charge for anything. That’s the way we want it to be\,” said Visit Kingsport Executive Director Jud Teague\, who spearheaded the Miracle Complex project. \nKingsport’s Miracle League is for special needs children and young adults who wish to play our nation’s pastime. The games are played at Kingsport’s Miracle Complex (2017 Brickyard Park Drive). \nThe complex has a baseball field about a third of the size of a normal field\, and instead of grass or artificial turf\, it has a flat\, rubberized surface. The mound and all of the bases are flush so wheelchair users and amputees can travel over the surface more easily and safely. \nKingsport’s Miracle League has two co-ed divisions: ages 18 and up and ages 17 and under – and the season runs concurrently with the city’s other youth baseball leagues. The city will be accepting new players on opening day: ages 17 and under can register at 10 a.m.; ages 18 and up at noon. \nDuring the 2021 season\, more than 125 kids and young adults participated in the Miracle League. This year\, approximately 140 have registered to play. \n“That’s a good number of players to have\, but we believe there may be more people in our region who are interested in playing\,” said Kingsport’s Parks and Recreation Manager Kitty Frazier. “We’re encouraging them to come out on opening day and see how unique and great our facility is.” \nKingsport’s Miracle Complex received a Tennessee Recreation and Parks Association award for outstanding new facility and the Mark Miller Tennessee Public Works Project of the Year Award in 2021. \nThe complex includes the Miracle Field\, a pavilion and an all-accessible playground. Future additions being planned for the complex include a soccer field\, pedal park and zip lines. \nFor more information about Kingsport’s parks and playgrounds\, visit kingsportparksandrecreation.org. For more information about Miracle Leagues\, visit www.miracleleague.com. \nAbout Kingsport Parks and Recreation \nKingsport Parks and Recreation is improving quality of life by offering essential services and recreation opportunities for the community of the City of Kingsport. They provide facilities\, programs and recreational experiences that are available to residents and visitors. Kingsport Parks and Recreation makes sure community members have places to play\, get fit and stay healthy\, as well as opportunities to foster new relationships and forge a connection with nature. \nAbout the City of Kingsport \nFounded in 1917\, the City of Kingsport (pop. 55\,400) is located on the Tennessee-Virginia border at the crossroads of I-81 and I-26 near the geographic center of the eastern U.S. The city is widely known as a planned community\, designed by renowned city planner John Nolen and wrapping around the foot of Bays Mountain – a 3\,650-acre park\, nature preserve\, planetarium and observatory.

SUMMARY:Paramount Bristol: Don Felder
DESCRIPTION:Paramount Bristol Presents\n\n\n\nDon Felder\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFri\, April 22\, 2022\n\n\nDoors: 7:00 pm / Show: 8:00 pm\n\n\n$47 – $85 plus fees and taxes / Members save at least $5\n\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nDon “Fingers” Felder is a true American rock and roll guitar hero. He is also known as one of the most innovative riff-generating songwriters of the modern rock era. \nIt’s easy to see why Felder garners such a level of respect. Not only is he a proud\, longstanding member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame\, having been inducted with the Eagles back in 1998\, he was also inaugurated into the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville in 2016 and the Florida Artists Hall of Fame in 2017. Fact is\, Felder spent 27 years with the Eagles\, who have sold over 150 million albums worldwide to date and own the fine distinction of recording the top-selling album of all time — Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975)\, which has sold over 38 million copies (and counting). “I’m honored and blessed enough to have contributed to and been a part of a very talented mixture of voices\, writing\, guitar parts\, and production\,” he says of the group. “It was a magical\, unique combination that happened in a certain place and time. I’m very proud of that. Every time I hear the work we did on the radio\, I go\, ‘Oh! You were really good!’” \nIn addition to his musical proficiency as a double-threat guitarist/vocalist\, Felder is most proud of his ongoing charity work for the likes of Starkey Hearing Foundation in 2018\, the Ruck N Roll Charity Ball in Hong Kong for underprivileged children in 2016\, and Autism Speaks in 2014\, to name but a few of the worthy causes he supports.
