SUMMARY:As Fast as Birds Can Fly: The ET & WNC (Tweetsie) Railroad
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nThe Chuckey Depot Museum in Jonesborough will debut its newest exhibit\, As Fast as Birds Can Fly: The ET & WNC (Tweetsie) Railroad\, on Thursday\, March 4. The East Tennessee & Western North Carolina railroad (ET & WNC) was one of the main lines that ran through Johnson City and Elizabethton. This narrow gauge railroad only lasted from the 1880s through 1950\, but it made a lasting impact on the region.  \n  \nThe exhibit will include several artifacts from the ET & WNC’s storied history\, as well as photographs taken by people who worked on and for the railroad line. Tune into the Chuckey Depot Museum’s Facebook page at 7 p.m. on March 4 for a special virtual tour of the exhibit.  \n  \nYou can visit the museum in person on Thursday through Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Additional events to celebrate the exhibit will follow at a later date. The ET & WNC exhibit will be on display at the museum through Aug. 2021.  \n  \nChuckey Depot Museum is located at 110 S 2nd Ave. This project is brought to you by the Town of Jonesborough\, Heritage Alliance of Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia\, and Watauga Valley Railroad Historical Society. For more information visit the Chuckey Depot on Facebook or call the Visitors Center at 423.753.1010. \n  \n### \n  \nThe Chuckey Depot’s original home was just down the road in Chuckey\, TN\, and now sits within WC Rowe Park in Jonesborough. To preserve the building\, it was dismantled and re-erected in Jonesborough\, where it opened as a museum in October 2017.

SUMMARY:Conversations that Matter:
DESCRIPTION:Conversations that Matter is a monthly on-line series from the McKinney Center. In each “Conversation” two local guests will explore their own culture and perspective\, and talk to each other about what makes them unique\, discover their similarities\, and explore their differences. They will look at where their lives might intersect personally and in the community. The goal of each Conversation that Matters is for guests and participants to hear real stories\, from real neighbors. \n  \nThe next event in this series will feature Kati Jenkins and Ignacy Fonberg. This conversation will be moderated by Katelyn Yarbrough and Michelle Treece. It will take place via Zoom on March 11\, at 7 p.m. Register at mckinneycenter.com. \n  \nKati Jenkins transplanted here from upstate New York as a toddler. When she met her best friend in high school\, she decided if she was going to stay in the area\, it would be in Historic Jonesborough. Kati says this decision was based on Jonesborough’s community\, open-mindedness\, and history. Kati has settled in Jonesborough and is a young wife\, mother\, and friend to many who you will often find at the Main Street Café. \nIgnacy Fonberg is an 80-something immigrant from Poland. He has lived in the States for over 40 years. Ignacy followed his wife to Massachusetts\, where she was one of the first female professors at Harvard. He then followed her down to East Tennessee when she became a part of the Biochemistry Department at Quillen Medical School. He has always been an active member in Jonesborough\, participating in Storytelling\, the Jonesborough Repertory Theatre\, Music on the Square\, and Brews & Tunes. \n  \nThis monthly series is inspired by the Diversity & Equity Subcommittee at the McKinney Center\, and their desire to highlight the experiences of all voices in Washington County\, Tennessee\, with an intention to include marginalized groups. By showcasing these conversations\, the Diversity & Equity subcommittee hopes to open doors to new ideas and perspectives amongst our very own neighbors. The McKinney Center believes there is value in uplifting these stories so that individuals may learn from one another. \n  \nFor more information and to register\, visit mckinneycenter.com. \n  \n###

SUMMARY:Managing Risk in Paddle Sports (All Levels)
DESCRIPTION:Risk is an inherent part of many outdoor activities and paddle sports are no exception. But whereas we regularly train and practice our paddling skills to gain proficiency\, we often tend to approach risk management using “gut feelings”. While some of that may be properly informed by experience on the water\, it is no guarantee that we’re identifying the right hazards\, assigning them the proper weight and taking the correct steps to mitigate them. As a result too many paddling enthusiasts get seriously injured or die every year due to preventable accidents.\nJoin NOLI founder Scott Fisher for a livestream session on risk management considerations\, common accidents and how to prevent them\, the role of complacency and more.\nSpecial Guest: Scott Fisher\, Nolichucky Outdoor Learning Institute\nHost; Andrea White\, ACA Tennessee\nJoin us on the ACA Tennessee and NOLI Facebook pages on March 16 at 7 pm Eastern/6 pm Central.

The performance is also broadcasted monthly to the Tri-Cities region on the local NPR station 89.5 FM\, WETS. These productions celebrate the culture\, history\, and stories of the people of Jonesborough and the Southern Appalachian Region. \nTune in to their StoryTown podcast: \nStoryTown.simplecast.com
