SUMMARY:4th Annual Gingerbread House Contest
DESCRIPTION:The Unicoi County Chamber of Commerce and Farm Bureau Insurance will host the 4th Annual Gingerbread House Contest during the Holiday season. There is no fee to enter the contest. All entries must be dropped off at the Chamber of Commerce office by 5 p.m. on Monday\, December 11.  Gingerbread creations will be taken to Farm Bureau following the judging and will remain on display at Farm Bureau until January 2.\n \nThis year’s theme is “Come Home for Christmas” and all materials used in building the gingerbread house\, including decorative items\, must be edible (except for the base).\n \n“Elaborate or simple\, big or small\, nothing gets you into the holiday spirit like building and designing your very own gingerbread house.  This is the perfect opportunity to start a new tradition and it’s never too early to begin working on this awesome event\,” said Amanda Delp\, Chamber Executive Director.   “Also remember that your holiday masterpiece doesn’t have to be a house.  It can be a barn\, church\, school or other structure.  Let your creative imagination take hold.”\n \nThree divisions will be featured this year – group entry\, adult and youth (ages 12 and under). $100 in prize money will be awarded in each of the three divisions.\n \n“Farm Bureau Insurance was eager to jump on board with sponsoring this community event when the idea was discussed a few years ago. We have been pleased with the participation and believe this is an event that will continue to grow each year.  It’s a great way to get into the Holiday spirit and have some fun being creative\,” said Mark Peterson\, Agency Manager Farm Bureau Insurance.\n \n“We are so excited to again partner with Farm Bureau Insurance\,” added Delp.  “As a devoted longtime community steward\, Farm Bureau makes community events like this possible.”\n \nCLICK HERE for a complete list of contest rules and regulations.  For more information\, please contact the Chamber office at 423-743-3000.\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n

When Japan surrendered to the U.S. at the end of World War II\, numerous Japanese swords were confiscated and taken back to the States. The Japanese sword\, while once a symbol of wartime aggression\, is also deeply embedded in Japan’s rich history and spiritual heritage. In order to better understand the past and build a bridge between cultures in the present\, an American filmmaker attempts to return one of these surrendered swords to its original owner.
