SUMMARY:30th annual Winter Garden Seminar
DESCRIPTION:Come discover your garden’s innate personality and encourage Tennessee’s nature to blossom!\nOur guest Speaker this year is Margie Hunter\, author of Gardening with the Native Plants of Tennessee. She share her wisdom and knowledge of our native plants\, their habits and habitats. Margie gives presentations on native plants and natural history\, serves as a board member for the Tennessee Native Plant Society and Tennessee Invasive Plant Council\, and volunteers with the Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage in the Smokies. Margie is a founding board member of the Tennessee Naturalist Program and works with the Tennessee Plant Conservation Alliance. She contributes articles to The Tennessee Conservationist magazine and writes a blog featuring trail and natural history accounts for the Great Smoky Mountains National Park\, Appalachian Trail\, and Tennessee State Parks and Natural Areas.\nAt the seminar\, Margie will teach us about the essential connection between natural communities and gardening. We gardeners often plan only for appearance\, and ignore how nature functions in the landscape. And so we find ourselves fighting nature\, instead of working with nature. Natural communities develop around specific geology\, topography\, soil\, water\, and climate. When we understand nature’s principles of organization\, we can design a more successful and satisfying home landscape. With native plants as primary components\, gardens can be beautiful and can also provide practical benefits. Your yard and garden can conserve resources\, support wildlife\, and highlight regional differences through sense of place.\nMeet at the Warriors’ Path State Park – Recreation building.\nIMPORTANT NOTE – You MUST preregister for this event\, and there will be a small registration fee to help cover expenses.

SUMMARY:January Jams: Tameca Jones
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, January 19th\n\n\nTameca Jones\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSaturday\, January 19th @ Barter Theatre \n \nFor Fans of: Gary Clark Jr\, The Suffers\, War & Treaty \n \nTickets: $18-15 \nDoors Open: 7:15pm \nShow Starts: 8:00pm \n \nOpening Act: TBD \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhen local Austin\, TX native Tameca Jones opens her mouth and sings\, jaws hit ground. Her honeyed and powerful vocals have been captivating her hometown for a little over ten years. \nTameca spent years skillfully and tastefully breathing new life into the music of others. She made a name for herself as the “Queen of Austin Soul\,” blowing minds with her tasteful and vibrant interpretations of a diverse list of artists that include Tina Turner\, Nirvana\, Elton John\, Jimi Hendrix\, and more. The Austin Chronicle called her interpretations “sonic pretzels” that “juxtapose(s) crunchy jaggedness with her infectious\, honeyed voice.” Her WTF ability to go from soulful wailing to silky coos has won her devoted fans\, accolades\, and some high profile situations opening for Austin super stars Gary Clark Jr.\, Max Frost\, Bob Schneider and other big touring acts. She received major love from Billboard Magazine for her white hot performance at the 2015 Austin Music Awards\, where she paid tribute to late beloved musician Ian McLagan alongside legends like Steven Van Zandt\, Charlie Sexton\, Alejandro Escovedo\, and Patty Griffin. Billboard said she “raised the roof\,” while The Austin Chronicle called her performance “showstopping.” \nGuitar deity and fellow Austinite Gary Clark Jr.\, who faithfully attended Tameca’s shows whenever he was in town\, asked her to sing on the song “Wings” for his latest album\, The Story of Sonny Boy Slim. Rolling Stone called the song a “slinky duet\,” while Andy Langer for Esquire Magazine called the song one of the best songs in the month of September and noted that “the tweaky processing of Austin soul starlet Tameca Jones’ voice adds an early-Parliament-like trippiness.” \nTameca made her festival debut at the 2015 Austin City Limits Festival. Austin360 wrote that her “big\, sweet\, soulful voice” kicked off the festival in the most epic of ways. Her music filled the morning air and the crowd around her grew bigger and bigger as her set went on. She ended the set with her debut single\, “Hot and Bothered\,” a Motown inspired cut produced by Josh Moore (Max Frost). The track is on both Spotify and iTunes. Independent music site\, The Joy of Violent Movement\, called “Hot and Bothered” “a sexy and slinky and old-school soul-inspired” song that is “contemporary and upbeat.” \nTameca Jones is set to release her highly anticipated debut EP in February. There is little doubt that she will soon be the next big name to break out of Texas.

SUMMARY:STOMP
DESCRIPTION:Orchestra: $50 | Mezzanine: $45 | Balcony: $40 \nStraight from Broadway\, STOMP is explosive\, provocative\, sophisticated\, sexy\, utterly unique\, and appeals to audiences of all ages. The international percussion sensation has garnered an armful of awards and rave reviews\, and has appeared on numerous national television shows. The 8-member troupe uses everything but conventional percussion instruments – matchboxes\, wooden poles\, brooms\, garbage cans\, Zippo lighters\, hubcaps – to fill the stage with magnificent rhythms. The return of the percussive hit also brings some new surprises\, with some sections of the show now updated and restructured\, and the addition of two new full-scale routines\, utilizing props like tractor tire inner tubes and paint cans. As USA Today says\, “STOMP finds beautiful noises in the strangest places.” STOMP. See what all the noise is about.

SUMMARY:Greeneville: Folk Soul Revival Concert
DESCRIPTION:DOORS OPEN AT 7:30PM. \nFOLK SOUL REVIVAL STARTS PROMPTLY AT 8:30PM\, BUT WILL PLAY TWO SETS. \nBEER AND CONCESSIONS AVAILABLE WHEN THE DOORS OPEN. \nADVANCED TICKETS ARE $12.00 UP UNTIL 7:00 PM ON JANUARY 25TH. TICKETS SOLD AT THE DOOR WILL BE $15.00. \n  \nA modern band rooted in old-school southern sounds\, Folk Soul Revival whips up its own version of amplified Americana on the band’s self-titled fourth record. \nThe name says it all. Folk Soul Revival\, like the band that created it\, is an album that celebrates the sounds\, stories\, and small-town values of an earlier era\, modernizing their approach with sharp songwriting and electrifying instrumental work. There’s country twang\, bluegrass bounce\, hillbilly hell-raising\, chicken-pickin’ guitar\, and roadhouse roots-rock\, all sandwiched into a tracklist that mixes heartbreak\, honesty\, and humor in equal doses. Recorded in Nashville and road-tested on stages across the country\, this is Folk Soul Revival’s finest work — an album that nods to the glory days of the past while still pushing the band forward. \nFormed in southwestern Virginia in 2008\, Folk Soul Revival has spent a decade growing a wide audience both at home (where they’ve become a regular presence at local institutions like the Carter Family Fold\, FloydFest\, and Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion) and on the road (where they’ve shared shows with Dr. Ralph Stanley\, Old Crow Medicine Show\, Jason Isbell\, Eric Church\, and others). They’re road warriors\, logging roughly 100 performances a year. For Folk Soul Revival\, though\, those tours always lead back to Bristol: the group’s birthplace\, home\, and muse. Many of the life lessons that lurk inside Folk Soul Revival’s 12 tracks can be traced back to that place. \n“These are stories of home\,” says frontman and chief songwriter Daniel Davis\, who shares the band’s lineup with Justin Venable (baritone guitar\, vocals\, occasional songwriting duties)\, Brandon Sturgill (upright bass\, bass guitar)\, Chad Light (guitar\, pedal steel\, banjo)\, and Justin Louthian (drums\, vocals). “We’re all backwoods country people who grew up in this area\,” he adds\, “listening to bluegrass and country. That’s where we come from\, and that’s where this album comes from\, too.” \nWith songs about blue-collar jobs\, long workweeks\, wise-ass bartenders\, messy breakups\, and richly-deserved weekends\, Folk Soul Revival sources its material from the everyday lives of rural Americans. This is biographical music\, and while the stories may be specific to Folk Soul Revival\, they’ll sound familiar to anyone who hails from the country’s forgotten pockets . On songs like “Small Town\,” Davis sings about front porches\, back roads\, and Friday night football games\, sketching a picture that’s quintessentially Southern. In the background\, the rest of the band chimes in with banjo\, slide guitar\, and vocal harmonies. The result is both fresh and familiar — a new take on a classic idea. \nElsewhere\, the guys duet with folksinger Leah Blevins on “Dance with Me\,” wink their way through the double entendres of the country two-step highlight “Horrible Girl\,” ride a rowdy groove with the kickoff track “Other Side\,” pay homage to Little Feat with a cover of “Willin’\,” and even make room for swooning strings and thick harmonies (the latter provided by the McCrary Sisters) on their most layered song to date\, “Broken.” Produced by Grammy Award winner Chad Brown (Ryan Adams\, Hayes Carll\, Patty Griffin) with additional production by Grammy Award winner Barry Bales (a longtime member of Alison Krauss and Union Station\, as well as the producer of Folk Soul Revival’s previous album\, Out of the Box)\, these songs shine a light on the band’s strongest lineup to date.  Crucial to the group’s soaring progress are two new members — Justin Louthian\, a versatile percussionist capable of train beats\, rock patterns\, and everything in between; and Chad Light\, whose electric guitar riffs take center stage on multiple tracks — whose talents help Folk Soul Revival bridge the gap between the organic punch of a string band and the electrified stomp of a country-rock act. \nReleased years after the band’s third release\, Prompting the Dapperness\, rose to Number 12 on iTunes’ country chart and Number 10 on Billboard Magazine’s Heatseekers chart (South Atlantic Division)\, Folk Soul Revival takes the band to new heights\, merging the band’s classic influences and timeless twang with a modern\, musical approach. Bring on the revival.
