The inside of a tree holds many clues to the outside of the land! Today we can make little rafts just for fun\, and to remember those early days. Meet at the Open Air Chapel (or main bath house if it is raining). We might even try out our new toy rafts at the shore! \n3:00 PM BARE BONES – It’s what’s inside that counts! We can find out a lot about our wildlife neighbors by a close look at their bones! We’ll carpool out to the start of the hike. \nFRIDAY\, JULY 23  \n9:00 AM HIKE THE “WAHOO” TRAIL – Enjoy about 4 miles of strenuous hiking along an awesome trail! Come spend several hours in a beautiful and wild part of the park. Be sure to wear good walking shoes\, comfortable clothes\, and bring some drinking water. Meet at the Mountain Bike Trail parking area. \n11:00 AM BEAD CRAFT – Create your own beaded necklace or bracelet. We’ll bring the beads\, you supply the patient fingers! Meet at the main bath house. \n1:00 PM ROPE AND CORD MAKING – How did our pioneer ancestors make something as simple\, and as important\, as a sturdy rope or string? Try your hand at this traditional craft. Meet at the main bath house. \n4:00 PM CRITTER PATHS – Be a critter detective! Find out what’s been wandering through the campground habitats. Meet at the camp store. \n5:30 PM “FUZZ\, PRICKLES & BUMPS” – Let’s use our sense of TOUCH to explore the forest. Meet at the camp store to begin our “touch & feel” hike. \n 7:00 PM TAG – You’re it! You’re the one we need to make all these great tag games work. Meet at the Open Air Chapel for all kinds of tag games. If it is raining\, meet at the main bath house. \n9:00 PM CAMPFIRE – What a perfect combination: A dark night\, a crackling fire\, and some local\, traditional ghost tales. Meet at the campfire circle\, east end of the main campground. If it is raining\, we’ll have an indoor “campfire” at the pool entrance. \n SATURDAY\, JULY 24  \n9:00 AM RIDGETOP HIKE – Enjoy some fine high views of the summer forests and fields under the bright sunny skies. This is a fairly short\, but very steep hike. So wear good hiking footwear\, bring some water\, and meet at the Mountain Bike Trail parking lot. \n11:30 AM MAGNIFYING GLASS WALK – Use your eyes and some handy little magnifiers to get a close look at nature’s amazing details. Meet at the main bath house to begin a short discovery walk. \n1:00 PM NATURAL DYES – Nature’s awesome colors mean beauty for us. The early settlers wore some of them! Meet at the Open Air Chapel to try your hand at using the same natural materials as they did\, for dying cloth. In case of rain\, meet at the main bath house. \n3:00 PM SPOTLIGHT STROLL – Let’s shine our light on some bright natural discoveries. Meet at the camp store to begin a short\, sunlit walk. \n6:00 PM CATTAIL CRAFTS – The early settlers along the Warriors’ Path couldn’t afford to waste anything! Even old corn husks could become a doll or toy. Instead of corn husks\, we’ll use cattail plants. Meet at the Open Air Chapel to try this twist on an old-timey craft. If it’s raining\, meet at the main bath house. \n8:00 PM SUNSET HIKE – Watch the sun go down across the green hills. Drive to the camp store\, and we’ll carpool. This is a short\, but rather a steep hike. In the summer of 1776 colonial leaders met in Philadelphia to draft a document that would forever change the world. By today’s standards information traveled slowly in the 18th century. As our guests to Fort Watauga\, you too can be part of the excitement as news of American Independence finally reaches the colonial frontier. What did the colonists think about a new nation? Walk among historical characters and hear their varied reactions to the Declaration\, from fear of war to the hope of a brighter future.   \nThe celebration takes place on Saturday\, July 24th as members of the Washington County Regiment of North Carolina Militia\, host living history organization at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area\, will be garrisoned in and around Fort Watauga. The militia muster will include a myriad of activities throughout the weekend allowing guests the opportunity to step back in time and experience daily life on the colonial frontier in 1776. The highlight of the day will be a special reading of the Declaration of Independence given inside Fort Watauga at 1:00 in the afternoon. The event is free and open to the public.  \nExtend your Independence celebrations and bring the entire family out for a day full of history\, patriotism\, education\, and family fun. The last concert will be with Kevin Kling on Thursday\, July 29\, and tickets are available now! \nKevin Kling\, who describes his zodiac sign as “Minnesota with Iowa rising\,” grew up in the suburbs of Minneapolis and graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in theater. His storytelling started when a friend from the now-defunct Brass Tacks Theatre asked him to perform his stories and he hasn’t looked back from there. SUMMARY:Johnson City: PDGA Pro Masters World Disc Golf World Championships
DESCRIPTION:Following the cancelation of the 2020 PDGA Pro Masters World Disc Golf World Championships due to the coronavirus health crisis\, the Professional Disc Golf Association and Visit Johnson City staff have rescheduled the competition for July 31st through August 7th of 2021. \n\nThis week long international competition is the premier disc golf event for professional disc golfers competing in age based male and female divisions for World Championship Titles. Tim Barr of the Warriors Lakefront Disc Golf Club and Visit Johnson City teamed up to organize the event. This is the second time the two organizations will collaborate with community partners to host a PDGA Major.  In 2017\, Northeast Tennessee hosted the US Women’s Disc Golf National Championship. This milestone event was the largest women only disc golf event ever hosted with 158 player representing six countries. \n\nThe 2021 Pro Masters Disc Golf World Championship promises to be an even more impactful event with more than 300 players from across the globe plus family\, fans\, staff\, and media. The 7 days of competition will feature doubles play\, field events\, social events\, multiple rounds of singles play\, and more.
