SUMMARY:Radio Bristol Premieres: Folk Soul Revival
DESCRIPTION:Radio Bristol Premieres Folk Soul Revival’s new album with an intimate album release concert located at the Birthplace of Country Music Museum. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased on the Birthplace of Country Music website. \nFolk Soul Revival is a modern band rooted in old-school southern sounds\, Folk Soul Revival whips up its own version of amplified Americana on the band’s self-titled fourth record. The name says it all. Folk Soul Revival\, like the band that created it\, is an album that celebrates the sounds\, stories\, and small-town values of an earlier era\, modernizing their approach with sharp songwriting and electrifying instrumental work. There’s country twang\, bluegrass bounce\, hillbilly hell-raising\, chicken-pickin’ guitar\, and roadhouse roots-rock\, all sandwiched into a tracklist that mixes heartbreak\, honesty\, and humor in equal doses. Recorded in Nashville and road-tested on stages across the country\, this is Folk Soul Revival’s finest work — an album that nods to the glory days of the past while still pushing the band forward.

SUMMARY:Journey of Women Annual Art Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Jonesborough’s Mary B. Martin Program for the Arts and the Women’s Fund of East Tennessee Present Journeys of Women Exhibition\n\n\nArt comes in many forms and we are limited only by our imagination. -Becky Chapman\, Artist  \nThe Journeys of Women annual art exhibition will be free and open to the public August 31st – September 8th at the McKinney Center. Sponsored by the Women’s Fund of East Tennessee\, the exhibition serves as a fundraiser for the organization whose vocation is to positively alter the lives of low-income women in the 25-county service area where the East Tennessee Foundation operates. The Women’s Fund\, a national organization with state and local chapters\, helps women of all ages gain access to things such as; health care\, guidance to education and career paths\, support in transition from welfare to work\, as well as many other challenges women may be faced with. Partnered with the Town of Jonesborough’s McKinney Center\, the East Tennessee Women’s Fund created this fundraising exhibition to shine light on the incredible talent of regional artists and to spread the word about the Women’s Fund and the work they strive to accomplish. \n\nThe art exhibited will be for sale and all proceeds will go to the Women’s Fund of East Tennessee. The nonprofit has awarded grants to the Red Legacy Recovery Program in Elizabethton offering help to women dealing with substance abuse issues\, the Boys and Girls Club of Elizabethton/Carter County’s career preparation and life skills training program\, and a summer program at Tusculum College for low-income high school girls. Over the past five years the Women’s Fund has awarded 23 grants in total\, providing more than $300\,000 to 16 organization in the area.\n\n\nCurrently the only fund in East Tennessee devoted to gifting revenue to organizations focused on improving the lives of women\, the Fund works to be flexible\, proactive and receptive in addressing the changing needs of the women they help. The Fund is also widely community driven\, which allows individuals to be as involved as they desire within the Fund. This creates a genuine connection\, not only to issues\, but solutions as well. \n \nTheresa Hammons\, Director at the McKinney Center expresses how the Journeys of Women exhibition acts in sync with the center’s own mission:  \nOne of our many goals here at the McKinney Center is to enhance the quality of life for our community. Artists\, in their own way are community activists.  They observe\, and experience and overcome problems throughout their own lives whether it be losing a job\, addiction\, family issues\, or a health crisis.  They take these experiences and express it in their art work.  I see students young and old at the McKinney Center transform throughout the semester as they take our art classes.  Some students come in very shy with low self-confidence.  They learn skills in art\, music\, and theatre\, and finish their class with a new level of confidence that is inspiring.  Adults that have had extensive careers come into the center and find a new found since of creativity and joy. A partnership with the Women’s Fund of East Tennessee was a natural one for the Town of Jonesborough and the McKinney Center.  We have a common mission to the help better our community.\n\n\n\nI dream of a healthier and happier social structure\, not moving backward but forward to ameliorate yesterday’s damages. – Glenna Elsea\, Artist \n

DESCRIPTION:The 4th Annual Nolichucky Triple Threat Obstacle Course R ace will take place on Saturday\, August 25. The Triple Threat\, designed to challenge the most enthusiastic competitor\, is the only event of its kind that begins on the churning whitewaters of the Nolichucky River and finishes with a trail run just steps from the acclaimed Appalachian Trail.\nThe race begins with competitors paddling or peddling their way to the obstacle course starting line and timed portion of the event. Participants can either tame the whitewaters of the Nolichucky River as they paddle down a 1.5 mile section in the watercraft of their choice including a raft\, kayak or bellyak or they can opt to peddle their way up and down hills both on and off road. Whether peddling or paddling\, participants are sure to have an adventure.\nOnce participants reach the sandy beach shore\, they cross the starting line\, they will immediately enter the obstacle challenge course in which they will test their strength and agility on eighteen adventurous obstacles including 6\, 8\, 10 and 20 ft walls\, a sand crawl under barbed wire\, rope climbs\, traverse walls\, monkey bars\, canoe drag and much more.\nUpon completion of the obstacle course\, Triple Threat participants will then begin the third segment of the event – the 5K race back to USA Raft. Racers will run on Temple Hill Road to River Road where they will race alongside the Nolichucky River for a section of the race. Then for the last steps of the race\, participants will battle trail terrain where they will complete the run back to their final obstacle before crossing the finish line.\nRegister early and save…with February being the month of LOVE\, we wanted to show you some love! Register before February 18 and enter the promo code NOLILOVE to receive 10% off your Triple Threat registration fee.\nThe first 25 registered participants will receive a 2018 “I Am Training Nolichucky Style” t-shirt.\nRegistration is available at www.nolitriplethreat.com

Preferred Lots are $35 and a very limited number of Pitside VIP parking is available for $50. \nCan I just pay for it at the gate the night of the event?\nWe anticipate selling out in advance. \nCan I just park on the street or at Earhart and walk in? \nDue to the capacity of the venue\, the only way to attend this event is to purchase a parking pass from BMS. The only entrances open will be for vehicle traffic that have a BMS parking pass. All other access (pedestrian or otherwise) to Bristol Dragway will be restricted. \nI thought this was a free event? Why do I have to pay to park?\nAdmission to the event is free for each person in a vehicle with a BMS-issued Parking Pass. As background\, last year we sold parking the night of the event. We reached our capacity limit and had to turn guests away. By purchasing your parking pass in advance; you have no risk of being turned away at the gate. \nCan I bring a cooler?\nThere will be no coolers allowed for this event. Concessions will be available for purchase. Guests may bring a small bag (no larger than 14” x 14” x 14”).
