SUMMARY:Holidays Around the World- A Soup and Songs Drive-Thru
DESCRIPTION:The McKinney Center will present their annual Holiday Fundraiser in a different way this year. In the spirit of safety\, the “Soup and Songs” event has been transformed into “Holidays Around the World- A Soup and Songs Drive-Thru.” \n\nThis year\, the McKinney Center has partnered with Main Street Café and Catering as well as other community organizations for this event\, which will still feature a gourmet soup dinner along with great holiday spirit. Guests will also take home a keepsake handmade\, hand glazed ceramic ornament. \n\nThe exciting outdoor Drive-Thru features “Living Holiday Scenes\,” which will be stationed around the grounds of the McKinney Center. Holiday traditions from around the world are brought to life\, created by community organizations and individuals. A “Living Nativity” complete with animals\, courtesy of the Carver family; a Kwanzaa celebration presented by Umoja of Johnson City; Mexican Posada and Brazilian New Year directed by ETSU’s Language and Culture Resource Center director Felipe Fiuza; A Hanukah Celebration; Germany’s St. Niklaus Day; a Chinese Winter Solstice shadow puppet display; Puerto Rican Three Kings Day; Olde English Carolers; and of course\, Santa Claus. \n\nGuests will begin their Drive-Thru journey with complimentary hot cocoa served to them in their cars as they enter the event\, and will tune their radios to the special station of curated holiday music from the featured countries. They will then drive around the grounds to view the living scenes. The event will conclude as they drive to the final station\, and pick up their meal to go\, including a pint of soup of their choice from Main Street Café\, fresh bread\, a giant chocolate chip cookie. Included in the to-go order is a beautiful hand-made\, hand-glazed ceramic ornament. \n\nTickets for this event will be divided into time-slots\, in order to reduce long lines and traffic congestion on Main Street. Guests are asked to arrive no earlier than their chosen time designation. When ordering tickets and time designations\, guests will also choose from one of four soups created by Main Street Café and Catering. Soup choices are: Southwest Chicken with Vegetables; Vegetarian Potato Leek; Creamy Tomato Bisque\, and Hearty Beef and Bean Chili. \n\nTickets to this annual fundraiser are $25. Proceeds will benefit the McKinney Center and the StoryTown Radio Show. This fundraiser helps the StoryTown Radio Show keep their ticket prices low throughout the year\, and allows the McKinney Center to provide no-cost programming for outreach events throughout the year. Tickets may be purchase online at Jonesborough.com/tickets or by calling the Visitors Center at 423.753.1010.

SUMMARY:Heritage Alliance: Railroad History Tour\, Sneak Peeks\, and Trivia
DESCRIPTION:This year has been a year of growth and change for the Heritage Alliance. It has been a year of struggle\, but also one of triumph. Even when we were closed to the public\, the Heritage Alliance kept working to preserve local history and share it with the world. We’ve created digital exhibits\, filmed and edited educational web series\, celebrated the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment\, and worked on a National Register Nomination. On December 1st\, we’ll be sharing special content on our social media pages\, including a railroad history tour\, a special peek into a historic restoration project in progress\, our first ever trivia event\, and much more! The Heritage Alliance will be sharing this content as a part of GivingTuesday as a way to raise awareness of our mission and the wonderful history we have all around us. \n\nGivingTuesday is a global day of giving and unity that will take place on December 1\, 2020. The day is designed to drive an influx of generosity\, citizen engagement\, business and philanthropy activation\, and support for communities and nonprofits around the world. \n\nAt a time when we are all experiencing the pandemic\, generosity is what brings people together across the globe. Generosity gives everyone power to make a positive change in the lives of others and is a fundamental value anyone can act on. It’s a day for everyone around the world to stand together and give back in all ways\, no matter who or where we are. \n\nLike so many non-profits during this time\, the Heritage Alliance has had to rethink our programs and planned fundraisers\, and we will not be able to host our annual\, holiday fundraiser this year. We hope our audiences have enjoyed the new programs\, exhibits\, and initiatives we’ve created. Our goal is always to educate and entertain. On GivingTuesday\, we encourage you to make a donation to the Heritage Alliance\, even a $2 donation to the museums\, or a $7 donation to Oak Hill School helps to ensure our buildings and artifacts are taken care of and that we can continue to offer our educational programs. You can make a donation on GivingTuesday via our website (www.heritageall.org) or our Facebook page. We hope you’ll join us on December 1st for some fun\, historical content\, and we hope you’ll learn more about the Heritage Alliance and the work we do.

SUMMARY:History Happy Hour of 2020
DESCRIPTION:The fourth season of History Happy Hour is wrapping up with an online presentation on Thursday\, November 19th\, at 6:30 pm! \n\nJoin us as we welcome a speaker from the Langston Centre in Johnson City\, Tennessee\, as they share stories about the building and Langston High School. The Langston Centre was built in 1893 as the Langston Normal School. A 1925 renovation\, made possible by Rosenwald funding\, added a gymnasium to the school.  Named after Virginia congressional representative John Mercer Langston\, it served as a school for African American students from 1893 to 1965. The Langston Education and Arts Development organization has worked with the community and other groups to help restore Langston as a functioning community center for arts and education. \n\nThe program will be offered through the Zoom platform and will also be streamed live on the Chester Inn Museum’s Facebook page. Go to the Chester Inn Museum Facebook page for the link to the meeting room and for the password to login. The program will begin online at 6:30 pm and participants can join the Zoom meeting or stream live on Facebook at that time. Participants who use Zoom are encouraged to keep their microphones muted and relay any questions during the presentation to the chat. The program is free and open to the public! \n\nThis project is funded under an agreement with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation\, Tennessee Historical Commission. For more information on the Chester Inn State Historic Site and Museum\, History Happy Hour\, or the Heritage Alliance please call our office at 423.753.9580 or the Chester Inn Museum at 423.753.4580.  You can also contact the organization via email at info@heritageall.org.  Additional information about the Heritage Alliance and its mission can be found online at https://www.heritageall.org/. SUMMARY:Radio Bristol Book Club
DESCRIPTION:Full-tilt\, hardcore\, down-home\, and groundbreaking\, the women of country music speak volumes with every song. From Maybelle Carter to Dolly Parton\, k.d. lang to Taylor Swift—these artists provided pivot points\, truths\, and doses of courage for women writers at every stage of their lives. Whether it’s Rosanne Cash eulogizing June Carter Cash or a seventeen-year-old Taylor Swift considering the golden glimmer of another precocious superstar\, Brenda Lee\, it’s the humanity beneath the music that resonates. \nHere are deeply personal essays from award-winning writers on femme fatales\, feminists\, groundbreakers\, and truth tellers. Acclaimed historian Holly George Warren captures the spark of the rockabilly sensation Wanda Jackson; Entertainment Weekly‘s Madison Vain considers Loretta Lynn’s girl-power anthem “The Pill”; and rocker Grace Potter embraces Linda Ronstadt’s unabashed visual and musical influence. Patty Griffin acts like a balm on a post-9/11 survivor on the run; Emmylou Harris offers a gateway through paralyzing grief; and Lucinda Williams proves that greatness is where you find it. \nPart history\, part confessional\, and part celebration of country\, Americana\, bluegrass\, and the women who make them\, Woman Walk the Line is a very personal collection of essays from some of America’s most intriguing women writers. It speaks to the ways in which artists mark our lives at different ages and in various states of grace and imperfection—and ultimately how music transforms not just the person making it\, but also the listener. \nTune in to Radio Bristol on Thursday\, November 19\, 11:00 a.m. for the Radio Bristol Book Club discussion of Woman Walk the Line\, followed by a conversation with editor Holly Gleason.

SUMMARY:24th Annual Pinnacle Speedway in Lights
DESCRIPTION:The Pinnacle Speedway in Lights presented by TVA opens tonight for its 24th season of bringing cheer to Northeast Tennessee. The spectacular magical light show will dazzle visitors with more than 2 million lights illuminating more than 250 festive displays across a four-plus mile route on the Bristol Motor Speedway and Dragway property. \nThis year more than ever\, the Pinnacle Speedway in Lights provides a fun\, socially-distant activity for families to enjoy together and make the most of this holiday season. Below is a highly-recommended list of things to do during your visit to the Pinnacle Speedway in Lights\, crafted by the always helpful BMS Elves\, to ensure that you maximize your visit: \nNo. 10: Take your vehicle for a spin around the historic half-mile high banks of Bristol Motor Speedway! Your tires will touch the same all-concrete surface where so much NASCAR history has been made over the years. As a high-horsepower bonus\, you’ll get to also drive down the return road of the famed Bristol Dragway – the highly-revered Thunder Valley – one of the most iconic dragstrips in the United States. \nNo. 9: Back by popular demand for its fourth season as an attraction along the route\, the Mycroft Signs Race to Space will take you on an interstellar journey. The galaxy themed tunnel which features a starburst light show will provide an out of this world experience for sure. \nNo. 8: One of the Speedway in Lights all-time guest favorite displays\, the Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies Sea of Illumination\, returns to the route to take visitors into a cool underwater world of holiday lights that is located underneath the front-stretch grandstands of the famed BMS oval. \nNo. 7: You certainly don’t want to miss any of the amazing displays that are traditionally a part of the Pinnacle Speedway In Lights\, including The Dueling Dragsters\, NASCAR Pit Stop\, The Twelve Days of Christmas\, the festive Ballad Health Hospital display\, Santa Vision\, Dinosaur Village and Ripley’s Penguin Playhouse. \nNo. 6: If your vehicle isn’t big enough to accommodate your entire clan\, consider two large group options for touring the Pinnacle Speedway In Lights: you can tour the lights in a van for $50 and large buses are admitted for $125. \nNo. 5: If ice skating is your thing\, The Pinnacle Speedway in Lights has you covered! The Tri-Cities Airport Ice Rink presented by HVAC is the place you’ll want to go with all your friends to get your fix. Located at the BMS North Entrance\, the Tri-Cities Airport Ice Rink presented by HVAC is available by reservation and admission is $12 per skater Monday-Thursday\, and $15 per skater Friday-Sunday. The Ice Rink will be closed on Mondays from Nov. 16-Dec. 14. Hours of operation vary from day to day\, so guests should review the schedule in advance by clicking here. \nNo. 4: If you love holiday music combined with tons of lights – approximately 300\,000 to be exact – you’ll want to take some time to savor the popular Symphony in Lights when you make a stop at the Christmas Village. Located in the Darrell Waltrip Grandstand\, the Symphony in Lights display flashes and flickers to the sounds and beats of all the best holiday classics. \nNo. 3: Take a fast pass to holiday bliss!! For only a few bucks more – $50 (it’s for the kids) – Jingle Bell Lane presented by Citi gives your vehicle permission to cut through the long line on select nights and have a much shorter wait before you tour the fabulous light show. Nights when the Jingle Bell Lane presented by Citi (fast pass) will be available are November 27 and 28 and December 5\, 12\, 19\, 20\, 21\, 22\, 23 and 26. \nNo. 2: Speaking of the Christmas Village\, you will definitely want to spend some time here during your SIL visit. Located in the infield of the legendary oval\, you can park your vehicle and stretch your legs for a while. You’ll want to take advantage of several photo opportunities in front of special holiday displays positioned throughout the Village\, roast marshmallows over an open fire\, shop for your favorite items with many local vendors and check out some great arts and crafts. This area will have a slightly different feel this year\, with specific in and out routing for guests to encourage a socially-distanced experience. Unfortunately\, due to COVID-19 protocols\, carnival rides and visits with Santa will not be available in the village this year. All guests in the Christmas Village will be required to wear masks. \nNo. 1: Visiting the Pinnacle Speedway in Lights is such a longstanding tradition-rich event in the Appalachian Highlands Region and something that you and your family can enjoy this holiday season in a safe\, socially-distanced manner. Besides\, spending quality time with family and friends and savoring the great feeling you get for making a huge difference in the lives of so many children is what the holidays are all about! \nThe Pinnacle Speedway in Lights\, the major fundraiser for SCC-Bristol\, runs from tonight (Nov. 13) through Saturday\, Jan. 2\, and has long been hailed as the premier holiday light display in the Appalachian Highlands Region. The Pinnacle Speedway in Lights powered by TVA spreads across a four-mile route illuminated by more than 2 million lights among 250 dazzling displays. A trip through the light show sends guests down alongside the historic Bristol Dragway and all throughout the property\, culminating with a lap around the iconic high-banked Bristol Motor Speedway half-mile oval. \nThe Pinnacle Speedway in Lights costs $20 for cars from Sunday through Thursday and $25 per vehicle on Friday and Saturday nights. For larger groups\, vans are $50 and buses are $125.  Visitors can take advantage of the Jingle Bell Lane presented by Citi (fast pass)\, a speedy $50 option which provides a shorter wait time on select nights when traffic lines get long. As always\, a significant portion of the proceeds for The Pinnacle Speedway in Lights will be used by SCC to give to numerous organizations that serve children in the 18-county area surrounding BMS. \nFor more information about the Pinnacle Speedway In Lights powered by TVA\, please click here. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\nAs part of the winter festivities at Bristol Motor Speedway in 2020\, the popular Tri-Cities Airport Ice Rink presented by HVAC will open Thursday\, Nov. 12. \nOne of the most popular activities held during the Pinnacle Speedway In Lights at BMS\, the Tri-Cities Airport Ice Rink presented by HVAC will be available by advance registration and the rink will be open on most nights through Sunday\, Jan. 10. Located in the BMS North Lot\, the Ice Rink will have a reduced capacity of skaters this year due to social distancing protocols. \nAdmission to the Tri-Cities Airport Ice Rink presented by HVAC is $12 per skater Monday-Thursday\, and $15 per skater Friday-Sunday. The Ice Rink will be closed on Mondays from Nov. 16-Dec. 14. Hours of operation vary from day to day\, so guests should review the schedule in advance by clicking here. \nThe Tri-Cities Airport Ice Rink presented by HVAC is a part of the 24th annual Pinnacle Speedway in Lights powered by TVA\, a holiday light spectacular that serves as one of the primary annual fundraisers for the Bristol Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities.
