SUMMARY:78/52\, Documentary Film
DESCRIPTION: \nMonday\, April 16\, 7 p.m. \n78/52\, documentary film\nBall Hall Auditorium\nThe screeching strings\, the plunging knife\, the slow zoom out from a lifeless eyeball: in 1960\, Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho changed film history forever with its taboo-shattering shower scene. Dubbed the “deepest dive imaginable into one of the most celebrated scenes in movie history” by the Los Angeles Times\, 78/52 gives audiences an unprecedented look at the iconic shower scene in Psycho. The documentary examines all 78 camera set-ups and 52 edits that went into the three-minute scene which redefined screen violence and introduced a new element of danger to the movie-going experience. Part of the Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers.\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Master Storyteller\, Donald Davis\, Returns to Historic Jonesborough
DESCRIPTION:Master Storyteller\, Donald Davis\, Returns to Historic Jonesborough \nApril 16 and 17 at 7:30 p.m. \n  \nDonald Davis\, one of America’s favorite master storytellers\, is coming to the Historic Jonesborough Visitors Center on April 16 and 17 at 7:30 p.m. The two-night concert will be unique with Davis telling different stories each evening. \n\nDavis was born in a Southern Appalachian Mountain world that was rich in stories. “I didn’t learn stories\, I just absorbed them.” Davis says as he recounts tales learned from a family of traditional storytellers who have lived on the same Western North Carolina land since 1781. \n\nThis year\, the Town of Jonesborough has new additions to everyone’s favorite storytelling performance. Before Davis hits the stage\, live music will be provided by Scott Wild\, an American singer/songwriter specializing in vintage folk rock. Directly after his concert Davis will host a meet and greet for fans. \n\nDavis’ resume boasts numerous experiences including Davidson College\, Duke University Divinity School\, a retired Methodist minister and former chairperson of the board of Directors for the National Storytelling Association. He is a favorite at the National Storytelling Festival and has also served as a featured teller at the Smithsonian Institute\, the World’s Fair as well as festivals and concerts throughout the United States and the world. \n\nFor Donald Davis\, storytelling is a way of giving and living life. He invites each listener to come along\, pull deep inside for one’s own stories and personally share the common experiences that celebrate the creative spirit. For Donald Davis\, storytelling “is not what I do for a living\, but it is how I do all that I do while I am living.” \n\nGeneral admission to the Donald Davis concert is $12. A special group rate for 15 or more people is also available for $10 per person. For tickets or more information\, call 423.753.1010 visit Donald Davis Concert Facebook page or Jonesborough.com/tickets.

SUMMARY:Tusculum at 225 Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:“Tusculum at 225” Exhibit to Open at Old Oak Festival\n\nMuseum studies students under the leadership of Dr. Peter Noll have been hard at work creating a new exhibit that explores the storied history of Tennessee’s oldest institution of higher learning. \n“Tusculum at 225” will be open to the public beginning April 20th\, a reception is planned during the Old Oak Festival. After the opening\, the exhibit will be a permanent fixture in the President Andrew Johnson Museum\, which is free and open to the public. \nSenior museum studies student Alex Rollison is part of the exhibit team that is putting on finishing touches in advance of next month’s opening. “Working on the new exhibit has been an insightful experience in more than just the research aspect\,” said Alex. “Creating interpretative panels and building exhibit components is fantastic real world experience. While researching my time period I was able to learn more about the civic arts that Tusculum has put an emphasis on in the last 30 years.”\n\nThe President Andrew Johnson Museum and Library houses exhibits dedicated to the 17th president and his family\, the history of Tusculum\, and the institutional archive. Researchers are welcome by appointment. To visit the museum and archive\, call 423-636-8554 or email dboyd@tusculum.edu to schedule a visit.

As a songwriter\, he has been fortunate enough to have his songs recorded by many top groups including Blue Highway\, Kenny & Amanda Smith\, and Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver. In fact\, the song\, “Through the Window Of A Train\,” which Steve co-wrote with Tim Stafford\, was voted IBMA Song Of The Year for 2008. Steve has also earned multiple Male Vocalist of the Year nominations at SPBGMA.

SUMMARY:2nd Annual Upper East Tennessee Fiddler's Convention
DESCRIPTION:Upper East Tennessee has long been a land of deep musical traditions. Englishman Cecil Sharp knew this in 1916 when he selected Rocky Fork in Unicoi County as his first stop to collect ballads. And in 1925 the famous Mountain City Fiddler’s Convention attracted a who’s who of southern Appalachian fiddling\, and reminds us just how varied and unique this regions music is. The gateway mountain counties of Unicoi\, Carter\, and Johnson give way to the great Tennessee Valley to the north and west\, and to the upper reaches of the western North Carolina mountains to the south and east. The story of the music here is one about the movement of people\, both in and out of these highlands\, and a story about people playing music\, from generation to generation\, in their chosen community. The Upper East Tennessee Fiddler’s Convention celebrates not only the early influential musicians who made recordings (JD Harris\, Osey Helton\, John Dykes\, George and Lloyd Payne\, Dud Vance\, GB Grayson\, Charlie Bowman\, and many others)\, but also the those who played informally\, for the love of music and fellowship with one another.\nThe Upper East Tennessee Fiddler’s Convention is a collaboration between Rocky Fork State Park and ETSU’s Department of Appalachian Studies\, with support from the Tennessee Arts Commission.
